The Wachowski sisters could learn a lot about films from the Wachowski brothers.
Unironically, I love this. I don't know what flavor kool-aid they drank to have written this dreck. I wanted to love this movie the way I loved the first three, but there's just so much wrong with it.

@@dogtown_tv Or literally no glass at all
Morgayphues
@@dogtown_tv I think the act of throwing the glass away is unlike Morpheus, but is also deliberate and the right choice in context.
This is not Morpheus, it's an approximation of Morpheus. This is why Morpheus 2.0 looks very similar but not quite, behaves very similar but with some clear differences.
Neo created Morpheus 2.0 with a deliberate purpose and his similarities to the original are based on memory- which makes plenty of errors all of the time.
This was never going to equal up to the first Matrix, it's probably on a par with the 3rd film to be honest, but when you consider the reasoning behind the choices made in the film e.g. the new-age text speak to annoy Neo, the approximation of Morpheus in the form of a program, the explanation for Neo and Trinity's survival and the new feature of turning NPCs' into mindless drones on command rather than expend extra resources by having an agent possess them, I think the film is much better than it's given credit for.
I love that Keanu was like, "Don't even think I'm going to bother learning a bunch of Kung Fu choreography for this movie. I'm not going to waste my beautiful mind on that. John Wick is my bread and butter now."

This little sequence proves that Keanu has still got it if they had out in the time to rehearse and stage this even half as much as the original.
It just proves he cannot especially in some other scenes. I like Keanu, but its obvius even in JW 3 he doesn't have that speed(agility) anymore sad true as he aged obviously
This is the best sequence from the whole scene. Possibly the whole movie even.
Ok I see the problems of this fight
The Choreo is mediocre. Yuen Woo Ping (original fight choreographer in the matrix movies) was a master of fight choreography. He's still alive today why didn't they just bring him back
The lack of proper rehearsal. They should've prevized the fight first like in the originals
The Lighting is somehow darker but also lighter at the same time, it results to us not seeing the choreography well.
And there's too many cuts
It's like they evolved backwards in the fight scenes.

If someone is observant and realized; The latest John Wick movie has a lot of Matrix, for example Morpheus and the fortuneteller's caretaker and I think that Keanu fights and makes him so much more eager (in the trailers) that it looks like a Matrix movie.
It would have been an awesome twist if it did turn out the John Wick world turned out to be the new Matrix. The world makes no sense, the public and police just accept people having gun fights ect.
The Hotel owner turning out to be the Merovingian....

Exactly. Very interesting. It's intentionally a steady wide shot, but the only really clearly well choreographed and shot snippet of a fight scene
They needed the people who worked on the choreography in the original trilogy back. The new crew just isn't doing it for me.
Yap Yuen Woo PIng is still alive, he was the one who choreograpghed the original trilogy fights. They need to get him back.
There was a disconnect I felt between movies 1 and 2/3 though. The fighting in the matrix was phenomenal and unique. Loads of moves came out of nowhere and there was poetry to it, but it also had a raw energy and inertia. In 2/3 the inertia took a back seat to a more ‘dance’ style of fighting, it was beautifully choreographed but it felt choreographed, can’t say the same for the first movie. I’ve only seen a few seconds of the fighting in this (scared to watch it lol), but it looks very ‘typical’ fight choreography and nowhere near what made the first movie so fantastic

Two mistakes.
1- Laurence Fishburne is not Morpheus.

As far as i'm concerned, this ain't a Matrix movie.
As much as I like (not love) this movie, man they should've brought back Yuen Woo Ping or Chad Stahelski or one of the old-school choreographers.
Chad was literally the fight choreographer of every fight scene in this film. It lacked that authentic Hong Kong style martial arts that the three previous Matrix films had. Chad is no Woo-Ping...
@@ejkk9513 Chad has been doing this for years. From what I've heard, the actors and the crew had little to NO time to train for this. Time is a massive key for these types of movies. Plus Chad was shooting John Wick 4 during this, so that's also a factor.
@@pikachuspartan1868 That's fine... I understand these films constantly run into time constraints. That doesn't change the fact that the fight scenes had no Hong Kong flair. Chad doesn't come from a deep, rich Chinese heritage. Plenty of great martial arts films have been made on a shoestring budget and minimal training time. The difference is the deep knowledge of knowing exactly what to do and how to do it.
the biggest issue was time constraints, covid being one of them, and whoever filmed this clearly didnt follow the pre-vis very well and shot alot of the action from the waist up
@@RhysClark97 Apparently they barely did any pre-vis for the fights in this film. Lana Wachowski decided to just wing it based on instinct and experience, which was something that the camera crew expressed some concerns over.

Huge Matrix Trilogy Fan! This long awaited movie blows!
As long as Keanu Reeves is fighting we should all show some respect.
This scene is just so wrong, even though the environment setting is top notch, they don't need to breath in the Matrix or computer generated world, the fight in the trilogy was carefully constructed so you never hear them exhaling or catch their breath during the fights, but whoever shoot this scene totally forgot about it.
No
Finally
I have enormous respect for Keanu, and I *really* wanted to like this movie. But it just didn't deliver. It felt cheap, like a dollar store version of the three movies I loved. Like a knockoff with two of my favorite movie characters somehow crammed into it. To me it's not disrespecting Keanu when I dis on this movie. It's just me being honest about what it _wasn't._

Neo's one arm punch did it for me, the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen 😂
After watching this movie, I had to go back and re-watch the first three movies just to help fight the depression I got after watching Matrix resurrection.
This fight scene was obviously choreographed around the fact that Reeves is now in his 50s and probably not able to do the stuff he did in 1999 that well anymore.
Probably!?? HE ISNT ABLE TO DO ALL THAT BECAUSE HE IS OLDER!!
wrong. You obviously haven't seen Man Of Tai Chi, a film he directed. He played the main antagonist. The film is well choreographed and keanu is the end boss. Matrix Resurrection is just a really bad movie.
What about John Wick? Also, what about stunt doubles? Those exist for a reason.

legitimately my main issue with this fight is it is shot weirdly...far too many close ups for what is obviously competent and well exicuted choreography....like this dude is doing graceful spin kicks and the camera is zoomed in on his upper half...HE IS KICKING...SHOW THE KICK 1:54
this actually shows incompetence on behalf of the filmmakers, mainly the directors, cinematographers and producers. split-scened close-ups cut the cost and leave the heavy-lifting to the editors. they just make sure they got enough takes and don't care if the actors performed accurately or if what they are doing is believable.
of course, it doesn't stop there...
sound effects and music are ridiculous.
final explosion came out of thin air (neo's psychokinetic powers never generated fire).
a fight scene where nemo doesn't fight.
morpheus' clothing is inappropriate for fighting (remember the styling in the original fights with morpheus or that oracle's guardian).

they turned it into an elaborate show with no depth. it tries hard to impress but it's as shallow as b- or c-rated movies, like the expendables or triple-x.
That immense ball of light at the end I gotta admit is pretty cool :)

How did he take the first half dozen blows without any noticeable reaction? Is Morpheus pulling his punches, or is Neo really that strong?

Don’t leave like you came rose 🌹
Your welcome for the rose
What struck my attention the first time I saw this trailer was the gold light Neo creates.
In the past, Neo's abilities created no sign or light: bullets stopped, he flew, he moved like a program but it never showed. It simply was.
The only time we see gold is in the code for (at least some, maybe all of) the machine intelligences that live in the Matrix. Seraph's code was gold, while the construct around him was green.
So, why gold and why now? It was never addressed, but it cooked my noodle for a bit.
Maybe Neo was always Gold as we never actually saw him as "Code" until the very end of Revelations when the Machine deletes Smith. We only ever saw code from the eyes of Neo. Maybe in this movie they just added the gold to show Neo had fully embraced his "One" code or "Anomaly" code.
"it cooked my noodle for a bit" interesting choice of words
Because all super heros movies has some kind of visual effect as this... for me, it was totally unnecessary...
So... it look's like Neo knows how to unleash Masenko.
What's the matter Neo? The Continental got you pushing too many pencils?
I really enjoyed the score and theme to this movie. It had some great moments; I like @2:54 and on. Fighting for trinity, the build up and the music worked here.
This is really interesting. From 1:40-2:05 there's something there. Nothing in the entire movie was like that
Imagine how much better this film would have been if it was significantly better...
Yes... If something is to become better, it must do... that. 🤨
When the Matrix saga takes a steamy dump.
The problem was the writing, not the acting. Obv Laurence Fishburne is irreplaceable, but Yahya didn't do a bad job. His Morpheus is younger, wittier, and less overtly philosophical and wise. IMO these are traits that nobody really wanted to see more of in Morpheus, it's not bad, just different. In the trilogy, Morpheus is compelling because of his conviction and belief in The One. Neo represents something that Morpheus wants for humanity. In this movie, he's essentially Neo's wingman and Trinity's white knight, lacking any real drive of his own. Although, even if he did have drive, he wouldn't be able to act on it because he lacks a normal human body outside the Matrix and is no longer captain of his own ship.
