Good job brother..I gotta pull mine out...starter bolts broke off..gotta take the motor out so I can fix it right and see what I'm doing...oh God I hope it goes well..thank goodness I have two boats...lol.
I appreciate that you point out so many times the importance of disassembling fasteners then threading the loose hardware back together so they don't get lost and so you know where they went to once it goes back together!!!
I really appreciate you posting this. You gave me the confidence to pull my own inboard. Now I just need to figure out how to get the heads off I guess? The shop mechanic said the compression numbers are really low on some of the cylinders.
Thanks for the video! My restoration project has a spun #4 Rod bearing... It's a Volvo Penta 3.0 but basically looks like the same engine. I am going to try to rebuild it myself... 5k for just a long block... crazy.
Your videos are great. Love the resource, it's been a huge help. If you want to do a video of how to restore a boat that someone else owns, I'll gladly volunteer mine....
I liked your Video Zach! I have a removal project planned for this winter on a 1986 Four Winns Freedom 16. We are rebuilding a rotted transom. Appreciate you sharing your experience.
You could also buy a used set of boat rims after you remove the old rubber put just the rims on also you can retract the front legs of the hoist a couple of inches to clear the rear frame of the trailer. Don’t go to far and you may have to add counter weight to the back of the hoist to keep it from tipping forward me and a friend have just been ready to step up on the back of the hoist but bear in mind we both mass out at over 250 lbs each it only takes one of us to help control a small block. You are doing a good job so far just step back when you hit a snag and don’t let it get you down grab a cold drink take a seat and think it thru you will work it out I know you can.
Get the chain saw out ! Where is the wife she needs to participate. My wife helped me take out a FMX transmission of a 1970 Cougar XR7, she was about 8 months pregnant too. More per game planning maybe.
Great video I got a personal rush when you finally figured how to clear the transom. I was thinking taking the air out of the tires would have given you a inch or two. Anyway...great video. I have wanted to see that done for a long long time. Getting ready ti buy a boat I may have to do that to. Are you going to rebuild the engine? I will be tuned in. Thanks Zachs. Can't wait to see what's next.

good day zach, i have a tube which is connected to stern drive ( out drive) which is broken, i am not sure where this tube is heading to engine, would you please help me explain what is the purpose and how can i replace the tube without much dismantling of engine or stern drive. thanks
I ran into the same problem pulling a 2.5 out of my wellcraft. I regrouped then decided to jack the trailer up all the way in the front with the tongue jack. The next thing I did was jack the back end of the trailer and removed the wheels and set the trailer on 4x4s. That did it. The next time I will build a gantry out of 4x4s and use a hoist.
Where/how do you get new seats? I’m restoring a boat right now and the rear bench seat was totally rotted so I ripped it out. But now I don’t know how to find a new one... oops. Great video and very helpful! I’m working on replacing the motor and then floors after.
How does the engine connect to the stern drive? Do you have to remove the stern drive first before pulling out the motor? It's not clear how to separate the engine from the drive.
Hi Zach, great video. I have a Bayliner 175 2006 and I am thinking of removing the engine as the salt water has played its part. Removing an engine in my garage, how longe would it take approx? Regards Tim
@@ZachsGarage1 You might want to move the boat outside as well, take the tires/rims off, or air them way down. Then you have a lot more room to work it getting that engine back in, then replace the tires.. Then push it back in the garage. Another thing you are going to find is the fiberglass work will be very stinky/dirty so the house garage might be rough as that smell will go right in.

Hey man I have watched your RUclips videos and they are great! I have a 2004 Sea Ray Sport with a 4.3 Mercruiser. I like trying to take on projects like you but I got myself in a tough situation. I was replacing the shift bellows (without taking the drive apart). I got the cable out and put the new shift bellows on, but when I was putting the cable back in I got it stuck in the bell housing really good. I spent 8 hrs trying to free it with no luck. I then tried to crank the engine to hopefully loosen it and now it’s wrapped around and even more stuck! Called the marine place and they didn’t seem too thrilled and I’m sure I just turned a $200 fix into a $2000. Was wondering any advice you would give me as I’m pretty new with boats. Thanks!
That sounds like quite the pickle! I know this type of thing can be difficult to describe. If you want feel free to send me an email with pictures zachsgarage1@gmail.com
you don't need to remove the outdrive. Easier to come in from the side. pull the engine forward as you raise it. if you need more height, raise the front of the boat.
They are pretty similar. Most of the components are the same. The 3.0 just has slightly bigger cylinders for a little more HP. One thing I have found through forums that is different, is the cam shaft.
@@ZachsGarage1 I brought the gantry, fits in the garage in the lowest position and the car parks between the legs with no problems. I have had it pushed near the door and towards the wall, either way, it is out of the way while not using.
