  • Chicharo is cuban split pea soup. It's a very nutritious meal that should be served piping hot! We used yellow split pea in this recipe, but the process to make green split pea is exactly the same. Leave your questions and comments below and remember to subscribe!

Hello! I am loving all of your videos. I married a Cuban man, and I can make a few dishes, but always love to learn more. You guys are so fun to watch and I get such a kick out of your Grandmother. Does she ever make Cuban bread? I have been baking for many years yet trying to replicate that bread is almost impossible. I get close, but NOTHING like a good Cuban bakery. Lastly, are the recipes in a written form that I am just not seeing? Thanks so much.

Hi Christina! Wr are a family of cooks, not really bakers to be honest! I'll ask Abuela, but her first husband was a baker so I doubt she bothered to learn lol. I have to get around to putting the written directions in the descriptions (I'll do it, promise!). Thanks so much for watching...more recipes to come :)

I live in South Carolina and I don't get to visit often. All these recipes are great because I can't get any good Cuban food around here! LOL take care and thank you for putting these videos together. Tell your abuela que la queremos también! Y gracias por ser tremenda chef 😆

Matthew, I’m so glad that you’re enjoying our videos! I know how it can be difficult to find good authentic Cuban food outside of Miami lol. Let me know if you try out any of the recipes and how they turn out! I’m abrazo from both abuela and I :D

Great video Sam. I have heard before that Chicharo is a very popular dish in Cuban cuisine. This recipe here looks very delicious and nutritious indeed. You and your Abuela are so great, thank you so much for posting.

You don’t need it! Instead just cook it in a pot for 2 hours or so on low.

that starch on the dry chicharo will make you super gassy if they aren’t washed, lesson learned there
