  • Join us for our Sao Paulo travel guide as we highlight the top 20 things to do in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Visiting Sao Paolo was a bit intimidating. We weren't really sure what to expect prior to visiting South America's largest city, however, we found that in that midst of the crowds and chaos there were cool pockets filled with parks, street art, and an abundance of restaurants. For this video, we also had two of our Brazilian friends join us and they were able to provide a unique window into the city. This travel guide will showcase 20 things to do in Sao Paulo, Brazil:

Our visit São Paulo travel guide documentary covers some of the top attractions including a food guide (best restaurants and street food), top museums and São Paulo at night. We also cover off-the-beaten-path activities you won't find in a typical São Paulo tourism brochure or São Paulo, Brasil city tour.
20 Things to do in São Paulo, Brazil Travel Guide and Top Attractions Video Transcript:
Within the park grounds you’ll find the Afro-Brasil Museum, which is a contemporary museum that looks at African culture and influence in Brazilian society. And not too far from there, you’ll come across the Museum of Modern Art.
Batman Alley is located in Vila Madalena and it has become a popular tourist and Instagram spot. Apparently the place gets its name because the first piece of graffiti to go up was one of Batman back in the 1980s.
If you’re a football lover, this is a place you won’t want to miss.
Being the foodies that we are, we couldn’t skip the Municipal Market. Here you can find exotic fruits, fresh vegetables, meats, spices and even restaurants. We went there right around the lunch hour to try the famed mortadella sandwich.
From there, we visited Sao Paulo Cathedral. We only learned this after our visit, but there’s a crypt you can visit.
Next up we headed to the neighbourhood of Liberdade, which has the largest Japanese community in the world outside of Japan. We decided to hit up a sushi buffet for some food!
That evening we met up with our Brazilian friends, who took us out for a night on the town.
That morning we visited Pinacoteca do Estado, which is a cool art museum that focuses on works by Brazilian artist or works with Brazilian subject matter.
After that we headed over to Parque da Luz. This park is right next to the museum and it has a lot of interesting sculptures scattered about.
Sao Paulo’s Teatro Municipal first opened in 1911. The Martinelli building is 30 stories high and it was the first skyscraper in South America.
And that’s a quick look at how we spent 2 days in Sao Paulo. We hope you enjoyed this guide and that it gave you some ideas on how to tackle South America’s largest city. As always, if you have any other suggestions of fun things to do in Sao Paulo, feel free to share those with us in the comments below.
This is part of our Travel in Brazil video series showcasing Brazilian food, Brazilian culture and Brazilian cuisine.

Thanks a lot for posting this video. As a paulistano myself, I feel glad when people come to visit my city and discover a the hidden gems this place has.
São Paulo is a great city to explore. Of course it has all the problems that one would expect from a big brazilian city, but there's so much to see and to do that every visitor may find an experience to fill their own tastes. It's a city for everyone, only shadowed by the typical beach and forest circuit in Brazil.

Hi guys! So sad you had only 2 days to visit the city. As you discovered, there are many surprises once you learn to see it beyond the first impressions like pollution, traffic jams, messy urban planning etc. There is a diversity (in a broad sense of the word) that is not so obvious to the eyes of a first-timer and in my personal opinion, that's the greatest thing about São Paulo. I don't know if you visited but you're probably the first travel bloggers I found that didn't list Avenida Paulista and Rua Augusta on the places to visit. They represent well when I talk about diversity. Avenida Paulista might seem just a big avenue with skyscrapers and cars but there are many cultural centres, museum, bookstores, shops, street artists, street food gatherings, etc, different styles and periods of architecture in the buildings, going from early 1900s mansions to modern 2010s high rises. Every sunday is shut down for cars and becomes a big open park, similar to what happened in Times Square. Mirante 9 de Julho, behind MASP museum, is another interesting cultural centre that is worth a visit. It's an old early 1900s scenic lookout that was abandoned for 70 years, "sandwiched" between a car bridge and two tunnels, until last year as it opened again to the public, there is a cafe and a restaurant and cultural events. A very surreal place but very cool, very São Paulo! In Rua Augusta along the entire street you will also find a great diversity. On one side it's more posh and conservative, with fancier shops and restaurants, going to the other end which is closer to downtown you will find the complete oposit for it's more alternative with hypsters, hookers, middle class youngsters all together and a big variety of shops, bars, restaurants and night clubs. This city has so many hidden surprises that is worth more visits. I hope you guys come back more often. See ya!

awesome! São Paulo is ace, it isn´t the prettiest city these days. I say its like a teenager with lots of pimples and arms that don´t seem to go with the rest of the body like some teenagers. It was a small city then all of a sudden 7 million immigrants came in in a couple of decades...it went nuts! But it is the funnest city in Brazil with lots to do. :-) thanks for the video!

There's a version of pão com manteiga with cream cheese (actually, with requeijão, which tastes a little bit different than cream cheese - I would say better - but consists basically on cream made of cheese). They make the normal bread with butter and, once the bread is roasted, they add a generous amount of requeijão and toss it on the pan again, just for enough amount of time to get a crispy layer on the surface, followed by a second layer of molten, warm requeijão. You have to ask for "pão na chapa com requeijão". It may not be as traditional as the older version, but specially in São Paulo has become a trend and can normally be found almost in every bakery. You you should try it next time you come to São Paulo :D

you guys should have gone to Rua Augusta, which is a street famous for its nightclubs and cheap bars. It has a night place for any kind of person. Visiting the city during carnival is also a great idea. São Paulo has lots of street party parades, called "blocos de rua" besides the official carnival parade, that happens in Sambódromo do Anhembi. Both are great options for having fun, drinking and enjoying the city :)

Hey! Next time you travel to Brazil, make sure to go to Salvador, in Bahia! It's one of the coolest cities in the country... It's filled to the brim with culture and music, and it's really really colourful. And the food in the state of Bahia is definetely the best in the country- spicy and flavorful and original- and Salvador is probably the best place to taste it! And from there you could go to one of the beaches in the state- they are really beautiful (tho some of them can be crowded and overly touristy, you can find some amazing and more secluded ones)

Hey! I am from São Paulo :) glad you enjoyed your stay! Where else do you guys plan on going in Brazil? It's a huge and incredibly beautiful country, but if I had to make a list of unmisseable places those would have to be the Iguaçu falls, parati (make sure to have a boat ride to nearby beaches while in there, they are amazing), the historical cities in Minas Gerais (ouro preto, tiradentes, Mariana, etc), Salvador (seriously, if you have to choose just one more place, go there! The culture and the food are amazing!), lençóis maranhenses (look it up, the landscape is amazing and unique), bonito, the pantanal and the amazon (including the cities of Belém and Manaus!)

    • @catarinatd5872
      @catarinatd5872 8 лет назад

*paraty- I misspelled it. Of course, this is only my opinion; as I said, the country is huge, extremely diverse and filled with amazing places. And as you seem to be travelling in june/july, don't miss the saint john festivals! They have amazing food and music, and are usually so colourful!

You did a pretty good job in only two days! The city is huge. You were able to highlight some great spots. You should have used Brazilian music in the background. Salsa, cumbia, latin jazz, etc are not popular in Brazil. Overall, it is pretty informative. BTW, I was born and raised in São Paulo, but have been living in California for a long time.
