@@musicalmagicede5190 - Thank you, so much for sharing this! I am 59 years old, and was diagnosed four years ago with the form of Autism that used to be called Asperger’s Syndrome as a result of how The Chosen portrays Matthew.
I and some of my friends noticed similarities between the way Matthew speaks and acts and my speech and behaviors. Then I watched an interview where Dallas Jenkins, the creator of The Chosen, explained the reasons behind intentional decision to portray Matthew as Autistic. (Dallas has an Autistic daughter and he recognized similarities between her and the biblical descriptions of Matthew while they were “story-boarding” Matthew’s character.)
To those who say portraying Matthew as Autistic is “blasphemy,” would you say the same thing if they portrayed him as left-handed? Autism is a physical, neurological difference in the brain. In computer terms, your “normal” brains are PCs running the Windows operating system. Our Autistic brains are Macs running Windows on a Parallels virtual machine inside the Mac OS. (If you read that and thought, “WHAT?!,” that’s the feeling Matthew was describing in this clip.)
Again, thank you for sharing this from someone God created, who happens to be Autistic, and who only knows that BECAUSE OF The Chosen.

Ah, what you're describing are your personality traits. That's not autism (and the title of this clip is a merely joke about """autism,""" in the loosest possible sense).
I think you should read about how personalities work (I suggest the Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator system, also known as MBTI). You're probably something like an INFP, INFJ, or a similar introverted personality. That's perfectly normal (literally half of all people are introverts).
So, you should learn about this topic, because it helps you to understand how people fit together, and the things they are likely to be good at. A body is made of many parts, and each one has a purpose. Ain't nobody needs a dozen legs, except a centipede.
Anyway, figure out what type of personality you have, and find some similar people to fit in with. There are only 4 main groups, known as Keirsey temperaments (Artisan, Idealist, Guardian, and Rational) and those temperament groups break down into 4 more specific personality types. It's important to remember that everybody has a unique personality, and the 'types' are just generalizations... the same as two blondes are both blondes, but not twins.
I'm guessing you're in the temperament group known by the name "Idealists" -- which are the personalities that specialize in both intuition and feeling (IMO the basis for being a highly sensitive/empathic person).
I don't know you, so I can only guess about your personality, from your one youtube comment. But, if my guess is correct, you will notice that you suddenly feel like you fit in, when you find a couple of fellow Idealists to hang around with. You'll just feel normal, and at home around them... it's because your personality gears will fit with theirs, without any effort.
That's not to say that you should only hang around people within your Keirsey temperament group, but rather it's just a place to start, if you have never fit into a circle. You start with something that's easy. Also, hanging around a few fellow introverts won't suck your energy and make you want to be alone (which would happen if you tried to hang out with something like a group of extroverted Artisans, for example, since you're certainly an introvert).

"The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure."

It even applies to autism unless there is only one person on the planet with autism than in that case, it wouldn’t apply but there are many people who are autistic, the spectrum is wide and the numbers increased drastically recently after they included a diagnosis that was once something separate, now as being considered to be on the spectrum. Phillip and Matthew, from the Biblical Narrative, couldn’t be more different. Matthew was a tax collector in Capernaum who was probably raised in the Pharisaical school of Judaism, often considered the most liberal (in terms of their adherence to the Law of Moses). Phillip, as a follower of John the Baptist, was likely an Essene, traveling Holy Men and Women who lived a nomadic, monastic lifestyle, and were very, very conservative (once again in regards to strict adherence to the Law of Moses as written) . Not only were their lifestyles different, but their religious backgrounds were, too. It’s like if Matthew was a Methodist IRS agent working in New York and Phillip was an Eastern Orthodox monk who traveled around the East Coast.

Most of their Rabbis were not of Levite descent but strictly maintained (rather hypocritically) the Law of Moses. The Sadducees were oriented towards the Temple and the Tabernacle in Jerusalem (even though it was empty, as the Ark had been missing for hundreds of years). I like that they don’t try to insert Autism (phrase/diagnosis) into the Bible; rather, they simply show that the characteristics translate across time. As an aspie, I absolutely love Matthew. Just like me, he excels at math and memory but falls completely short when trying to understand other humans. If you have an Aspie (high functioning Autism) child, explain everything and especially pay kind attention when they shut down. Examples: "When someone gives you a gift, this is what they are thinking and feeling....." "What they are hoping your reaction will be is....." "They feel this way..... " "You seem to be feeling this way..... is that correct?" People, and especially other kids, can be mean and ostracizing. Build trust so they can come to you at the end of the day and get guidance and reassurance. .

I'm autistic. I can understand and even speak in figures of speech and metaphor, but that part about feeling like you're on the outside is so true. I've never had a single person actually understand me. Everyone always has wildly different views about me from what is actually the case. Everyone expects some sort of alterior motive or sinister meaning behind my words but that couldn't be further from the truth. I have always had a deep love of people. I've been told my whole life I should be a vet because of how much I love animals but I love people so much more that my love of animals looks like scorn by comparison. But I'm so scared of expressing that love because of the way I was raised. I can understand and read other people better than most can, but no one, not even my best friend of six years, understands me. I regularly am hated by others because of things attributed to me that never even entered my mind. I've been cheated on because of it, beaten because of it, ridiculed and publicly shamed because of it, rejected by everyone because of it. And to make matters worse I'm a HSP and empath, so I feel these things so much stronger than others. People say being autistic is just being different but it's not a difference, it's a curse. And what's worse is that because of my upbringing and not being diagnosed until I was 18 I've learned to mask it, but because of the masking I'm always told that "you don't have autism" or "you must be high functioning" but I have moderate to severe autism, it doesn't get much worse than what I've got. I hear people say "oh I love autistic people, they're so interesting" but I have never once felt that love, even by the people who say that. I've always just wanted to be understood by just one person but no one ever has. People accuse me of misanthropy but I was born with agape, I've never hated another person in my life except myself, I cry when my bullies cry, I cry when my abusive father cries(which, admittedly, has only ever happened twice in my life), I would give my life for anybody. I hate being autistic. I can't stand it. I would do anything for it to be taken away from me. I would do anything to be able to properly communicate my love for others. I feel like the real me is trapped in a cage and what comes out is filtered through and distorted beyond recognition when it reaches my mouth. I hate autism so much.

@IsaiahINRL, I understand where you are coming from, as I am autistic myself. And I was brought into a world that, at the time, overlooked the condition. I was put into an elementary school that "supposedly" had an autism program, but when I look back on it, I don't think there was a program for me in the first place. I was bullied a lot in that school. I was pinched, spat on, tripped, stalked, and even sucker punched. I am also very empathetic, so I took all of that much harder than most people. My grades weren't that good, either. I was mostly getting D's and C's, barely passing my grades. Basically, my 5 years in that school were my 5 years in hell. However, there were a very small handful of teachers in that school who understood me and my condition, and that gave me a little hope. But to me during that time, that small hope wasn't enough to lift me up. When I got to orientation for my first year in middle school, I was whimpering, because I knew what I had gone through in my previous school, and I feared that the same thing would happen to me in that new school as well. But as it turned out, the school did have a good autism program, and with it, a lot more teachers who understood me and cared for me. Because of that, in 3 years, I went from barely passing to becoming a straight A student. In 8th grade, I never got a quarterly grade below a 95%, and I excelled from there. I am 18 now, and I am about to graduate with a scholarship to uwf, with dreams of becoming an accountant. Let me tell you, from one autistic person to another, while it may seem like your condition is a curse now, in time, you'll see that it is a blessing, a blessing to see the world differently than other people. And if you ever have anyone picking on you again because of your condition, remember that our lord and saviour has your back. I thank the lord every day that I got out of that elementary school to become the person that I am today. And who knows? Maybe you can help change the world someday. Thanks for talking with me and the other people in this thread, and may God bless you.

Having brain wiring that works different from others is both a blessing and a curse. For one, "different" generally means "outsider". Humans are wired that way, and Matthew nails that part, along with the frustration it brings. Try having a brain that works different, and trying to live your life understanding the things people say and do, but having the meanings just an inch beyond reach. Y'all confuse the hell out of me sometimes, and I was forced to develop patience to deal with it, especially considering it isn't anyone's fault.
On the other hand, there are aspects of it that are tremendously beneficial. For me, patterns tend to grab my attention. Give me a knotted piece of rope, a jigsaw puzzle, or another language, and I'm unraveling mysteries with hyperfocus. Long after others have given up in frustration, and I'm still there untying the knot. It isn't even necessarily about the knot itself, I'm fascinated by the twists and turns, and the process of undoing it. Where it goes off the rails is humans. Humans are perplexing to me.
I struggle to understand body language, facial expression, all the non-verbal cues that normals tend to take for granted. Despite this handicap, by treating it like a pattern, I've not only developed my sense of humor, but I've become rather good at creating the facade of sociability that oftentimes leaves people shocked to learn I'm autistic. I mask it when I'm at work, while also keeping my emotions in check, and it all drops off when I get home. I'm also blessed to be married to a woman whose social skills not only far surpass my own, but whose abilities make up for where I lack. The trade off is that I'm a born researcher, and can distill complex topics down to less-complex terms for others to understand. She doesn't have the patience to do that, so she relies on me. It's quite the trade off, she helps me people, and I bring her necessary info.

I don't have autism, but I have another condition (Type One Diabetes), so when I saw that scene, it really did speak to me. For a while growing up I've always felt different (even before being diagnosed T1D). It also made me feel really bad whenever my siblings or my parents had to do things for me because some issue with it (low blood sugar, etc.). But scenes like this and the one with Little James in S2, gave me a lot of hope and comfort in my situation.

My 11 year old son has autism. I worry so much about him. He is an only child.. My wife and I are are 51, and we won't be around when he is our age. As someone who struggled with faith, my son's ASD has lead back to the teachings of my youth. And I am trusting that with God, all things are possible. Church was a big part of my childhood. I was about 11 when I started Bible Study. My son seems oblivious to God, salvation. We don't attend church because he is sensitive to sound. As a toddler, as soon as the singing started we would have to leave. I find comfort in Matthew 19:14 But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. I believe he would say the same for people living with ASD.

To be closed in yourself or recollected or prayerful is a condition, a malady, but to sin relentlessly, without any regard for yourself or for those who surround you, is being yourself and true!!!! Think how advanced our world has become, how understanding, how comprehensible, how developed into its "great" knowledge of the human, now that we've claimed the very notion of "human sciences"....!!! Think about it!!! Think!!! And this video makes the culprit the very Christians!!! Think about it!!! Think!!!!.... ✝️

    I have Asperger’s and it’s like this:
Imagine you have a jigsaw puzzle with 5 pieces. Each piece represents the information you get from one of the 5 senses. Neurotypical (normal) brains put the pieces completely together into a concrete picture. Neurodivergent (e.g. autistic) brains bring the pieces close to each other, but there are gaps between the edges - so the picture for us isn’t complete.
