    I had a bathtub in an old house inside a wooden concrete cast, inside the concrete cast there was still a tight metal armature. The only option was to cut the bathtub into pieces with the metal disc of an angle grinder and take it out so that I could dismantle the armature.

    Great video! Question though, how did you handle the drain...? Do you just unscrew the strainer part and that releases the tub from the floor?

    • @HardHeadMilitary
      @HardHeadMilitary 2 года назад +1

      You have to remove the top (strainer) the drain is screwed in at the bottom. You can purchase a tool from the hardware store to remove the drain (it unscrews) sometimes you can manage with needle nose pliers, but the tool is more effective

    I finished watching your videos from removing the shower tile and tub through new tile and grouting. Very informative and almost makes me want to replace our shower ourselves! Unfortunately we only realized we have a leak issue when the ceiling beneath our bathroom cracked and started dripping water last night. Your videos are great and if we lived in Ottawa I'd be hiring you! How did you clean the mold off the clear plastic behind the drywall?

      Hi Kimber, I actually cut it out and just replaced it. This is found under the vapor barrier video in the series. If you need any advice for finding a good contractor I am always around to help. Good luck!

    Would this way work removing a cast iron tub? If not can you do one? And yes remove in one piece, not the sledge hammer routine. I have an old house with one in the old bath I plan to move to a new room. It's still in great shape so I'd like to reuse it :o)

    WOW... I absolutely HAVE THE SAME bathtub (even same color) that I want to remove...BUT I don't want to remove the panels (wood) neither the tiles (at least not completely but just around the tub)AND YES, it is 'stuck' behing the panels because of the metal flap that hold it there all around.
    Could I just cut the panels two or three inches around the bathtub to kind of slide it out of there. (absolutely the same installation that the one you have here, but the plumbing is on the other way around)
    Please tell me what little saw tool could I use, buy, to cut the panels (they are about 1/2 inch think)
    AND ABOUT THE 2X4 brace your show us...is it screwed to the studs? Does is 'clamp or stuck' the tub in its corner? Or is it just there so for the tub 'to rest' on it?
    Man... what an adventure I've put myseild into🙃!
    Thanks so much for all your videos...you will never know enough how much they are helpful.

    If that's cast iron, couldn't you just bust it up with a sledge hammer, it may not be a finesse way, but it will work.

    Is it possible to seal up a jetted bathtub instead of removing it? Is there a safety issue due to the fact that there is electrical underneath? There is no easy access to removing it without removing the toilette as well.

    You wouldnt be able to roll it over like that with 60-60.5" frame to frame clearance because of sheetrock . In your case looks like it was more than 60.5"

    • @HomeRenoVisionDIY

      Most frame jobs are oversized. If it is too tight then you remove a little drywall is all.

      This assembly is a package deal unfortunately.
      The only alternative is a plastic tub surround. This will work for only a short time until thew mold reaches the sealant.

    My husband's parents both passed away recently and he is going to remodel their house and sell it to get money to take care of his disabled brother. They have a green cast iron bathtub and it's hideous. Our realtor says it has to go, but do you have an easier way to remove it that just 6 guys carrying it through the house? Thank you for your videos, we love them!

    • @HomeRenoVisionDIY
      @HomeRenoVisionDIY  5 лет назад

      I would suggest having it painted! all you need to do is change the tile work and add a new trim kit for the tub. If you want to flip it keep it simple.

    I just yanked a 1st floor tub like the one in your video, except it's cast iron (dang, it's heavy!). It's probably as old as house (70 years old). It seems functional, but used. Would you save in hope of repurposing cast iron tub for a future basement bathroom installation (within the next 5 years), or just curb it and go all new when the time comes?
    I really appreciate the info you're sharing here - thank you!

  • @kurtbilinski1723
    @kurtbilinski1723 Год назад +1

    Builders often install tubs when the walls are completely bare. Once drywall is installed, lifting up the front of the tub means that the bottom swings forward, typically right into existing drywall you're trying to save. That's why people end up cutting or breaking up a tub. We can't all get a tub out with video editing :)
