      Hungary was under Soviet rule until 1988ish. English was haram. Kids below 40 tend to speak English though.

    Edward Budapest looks fantastic. I'm mindful you're in America now. Be careful up there in San Francisco. That fisherman's wharf was rough enough 20 years ago. Of course I went to Alcatraz with my husband. It was safer there than some of the streets☘️🇮🇪🤧👍

      Fisherman’s Wharf is where a protected class member went on a daytime shooting spree from a car during peak hours of tourists walking around recently. You can’t pay me to go to SF and I’m a Southern California native.

    I bicycled here in 1973. Nobody speaking English was little weird, but luckily I am multi-talented, I knew German and Fortran.

      Erh What. I learned FORTRAN in Helsinki Polytechnic HP-2000F. Also I learned ANALITIK - the language of Russian MIR-1 computer. Hungary had plenty of MIR-computers, of course.

      @@TimoNoko I was just trolling you. Hollerith founded a company that was amalgamated in 1911 with several other companies to form the Computing-Tabulating-Recording Company. In 1924, the company was renamed "International Business Machines" (IBM) and became one of the largest and most successful companies of the 20th century. Hollerith is regarded as one of the seminal figures in the development of data processing.[3] Interesting history - you may want to look up more information on it.

    Haha, the lack of rainbow flags is a great perk of living here.
    LGBT peeps try to do their pride every year, but there is very little gay propaganda stuff going on in the public life. Most Hungarians just don't want to have any of that nonsense.

    Trams remind of the milk floats of the Seventies. Screeching down the road with the crashing din of the milk crates. You hear them from a mile away!
    My aunt lived near the former Unigate bottling plant in Vauxhall, Lambeth. One could never ever get a wink, day or night because of the racket!

      There are SOME annoying children. Turns out mine is one of them. The little asshole cried for hours at a bath the other day. Hungary has higher than Europe's average birth rates. Still low. Still dying. Still no future. But apocalypse comes a tad bit later than other parts of the world.

    Cities and countries (like the US) designed around cars are *terrible* for anyone who leaves the comfort of their car and enjoys walking.
    Not that you could safely walk around with the current situation in US cities

      One of the most shocking thing when a Hungarian visits the US is the shocking amount of crime and drug addicts and homeless people.
      One of the most shocking thing for a US citizen when he visits Hungary is the near complete lack of crime. I mean, there is some, but it's mild. Murder per capita is roughly a tenth of the US's.

    I spent several days in Budapest in November 2023. A city full of.....Hungarians. A White European city with very little dye versitee. It was so wonderful that it was shocking. Hungary for Hungarians. Éljen Magyarország! Éljen az európai faj!

      Libertarianism is worse. I get that the guy selling apples from his tree or some rando with an unlicensed bonfire in his yard shouldn't be bothered, but this doesn't apply to megacorporations, who, with market forces as the only thing to curtail their excesses, will invariably screw the public. Libertarians take the silliness of bonfire permits and pretend like legitimate restrictions on corporations are the same thing somehow.

    In Hungary trams do not bother car traffic much, I would say barely at all. I drove around Budapest for many years, and never once thought to myself "damn, another stupid tram!". Cyclists, however are super mega dangerous and annoying..
