I was born in Szombathely Hungary. I came to Canada when I was 4, I love seeing video's of my birth country. Can't wait to get back there myself. Great video!!!💖💖
Budapest at night is exactly how I remember from 2005. We were coming back from deployment and had a layover in Budapest. It was snowing and the city looked so pretty.
Gulyás (goulash) was that person who guarded the herd (cattle) in plains for days or weaks all alone only with with dogs (cattle herd in hungarian is gulya). Gulyás made this meal in cauldron under the sky above open fire so the name of the meal come from here. The whole name is "gulyás leves" goulash soup means the soup made by gulyás. Glad you were here to visit this little country. I hope next time you can come to visit with your partner together and not just the Capitol but the countryside as well.
Love that you are in Budapest! My grandmother was born there. It was my desire to visit one day and in 2019 we went to Budapest on a Danube River cruise on Viking. It was absolutely the best vacation ever! The stew looked amazing! I brought home the best smoked Paprika from Budapest.
Very beautiful city. It was interesting to hear about the part that the various countries had in freeing Hungary from Russia. The food all looked delicious. Thanks for sharing. Take care.
How fun! I love learning about the history of too. Have never done a food tour, this made it look fun, yummy, and informative! Definitely will have to try a food tour sometime. Thanks for sharing.
Glad your back! Always thought about going to Hungary. My Mom learned to make poppyseed roll and nut roll from my Czech grandma, the best. Poppyseed roll was made for Easter. About chicken paprikas? was that a dish served in Budapest?
Oh wonderful a fabulous EECC vlog ! Also as a dog lover I hope you will give some Pepper updates from time to time . I didn’t realize what a beautiful city Budapest is thank you for taking us along .
Loved our first night in Budapest in 2022. I knew the lights were going to be beautiful from all of the pictures I had seen prior to the trip but OMG! it was more beautiful in real!!!
We loved this video!! Hungarian paprika is "sweet" compared to its US counterpart that is often smoked. In your store or market look for the Szeged brand of Hungarian paprika. Its one, if not the only, sold in the states and it was a staple in my Hungarian grandma's kitchen.
I got your link due to cruising. My family is still in Hungary. Glad you enjoyed Bp. You were still in tourist/expat zones where you stayed, bc $15 a plate for dinner for regular citizens there is pretty high. But, you were inall more restored areas of the city. Lots to see there, and Hungarian food is the best, especially bread, paprika and homemade plum palinka. You had some of my favorite foods of layered potatoes, gulyas soup and the paprika potatoes, and my two desserts of Somloi galuska(the cakes) and the poppyseed bread pudding. Have fun!
The city looks amazing. I understand about being hot all the time. I think everyone will be looking at me like I am crazy on our Alaska cruise next year.
When were you there, I know you posted this 3/21/24 but it would be nice to know time frame for weather. Not saying you are "behind" in posts and editing but it's just a thought so folks know it's current vs years past and just getting to it. Thank you.
Can't wait to see the rest of your trip! My husband is 50% Hungarian and he made a version of goulash last night for dinner. Thicker, more like a stew with elbow noodles. I'm watching this in the morning, but I'm tempted to have some for breakfast! 😊
Was the river excursion you took in Budapest worth it after sailing away on the Magma? I would have thought Ama would do the same thing when you cruise away from Budapest? Trying to plan our travel on the Magma doing the same cruise in December and make the best use of our time.
I've had Palinka from Romania, so basically the same, made from grapes. Oh MAN that is sneak up on you and bite you in butt "moonshine" U.S. "moonshine" ain't got NOTHING on that. My daughters ex fiancee was born in Romania. The one thing she did get out of that relationship was traveling to Romania, Hungry, the black sea in that area and seeing a "music festival". Those memories she will Never forget. That is NOT a drink for the faint of heart. It's STILL dangerous at ANY level.
The sausage was probably "Michi" or "Mititei" Its a version of a pork sausage but no casing. SOOOOO Good."Hungarian" paprika is NOT like any other paprika. TOTALLY different flavors.
Sadly, Hungary is now suffering again under the fascist thumb of Victor Orban,…such great people have spent far too much time under the thumb of evil folk

Everything we had in Budapest was so good! And yes, we had chicken paprikas (in the next video that posted today) at a local Hungarian restaurant.

I bet Jason would like that last casserole.
He definitely would!!

That was some strong stuff! There was no way I could have done that shot!!
Congratulations on your new little fur baby.
What happened with your little senior dog?
She passed about a year and a half ago. We couldn’t bear another pet until now.
I know very well how it feels losing a pet. Maybe y’all will be able to take your new baby on some of your road trips.
How will you manage a puppy with all your travels/cruising?
We don’t have many cruises planned right now and she can stay with our daughter once she is house trained. But we are taking her in the RV with us 😃
What a amazing tour . Sorry your husband didn't make it . Makes for girls trip .
What plane was that?..I'm flying British Airways Chicago to Barcelona in September and I read the seats are SMALL!!!
It was a Delta Airbus 350. We flew BA last year and that flight was the best we ever had!
Translation: Gulyás leves - Cowboy soup. 🌶 🍅🧄🥩🥕🧂🍲 🙂🙂🙂
💛💛💗💗🧡🧡
I met you on the AmaMagna! Subscribed and have watched many of you videos! Pls pin
Awesome! This is a great cruise we are having!!
I would be 5000 pounds! 😮
Stroopwafel is pronounced "Strope waffle" and if you can roll your "r' a bit, even closer to the Dutch pronunciation!
The sausage was probably "Michi" or "Mititei" Its a version of a pork sausage but no casing. SOOOOO Good."Hungarian" paprika is NOT like any other paprika. TOTALLY different flavors.
Yes! The flavors here are wonderful!
Virsli...paprikás krumpli
Sadly, Hungary is now suffering again under the fascist thumb of Victor Orban,…such great people have spent far too much time under the thumb of evil folk
you miss a lot of things
One thing is sure, pálinka is stronger then you :)
Love Hungary and it[s people. Don’t love their current far right political direction.
