As a lifeguard myself heatstrokes is one of the things that I always find so strange. The difference when you encounter the patient and how quick they can get better if threated right is just amazing. Always happy to be trained for this!
The heartbreak is when the balance has tipped. Then, no matter how much hospital care they have, hours later, they die. The elderly and those watching young children need to be much more careful with heat and sun.
Crazy how fast that kind of thing can come on too. I was out filming something in the bush and was feeling basically fine (if a bit hot)... Had only been out there maybe an hour or an hour and a half. Then in the middle of a take my vision just went completely, and I got all the signs I was about to faint. Just managed to sit down moments before I would've blacked out. And then spent the rest of the morning with my head between my legs because I was so dizzy. But when we went inside an air-conditioned place for lunch, I recovered really quickly from the heat exhaustion, and aside from feeling a bit wiped out, I was fine to shoot that afternoon.
It never fails to amaze me that people like to stand around and watch when there's a tsunami warning. I've watched a lot of footage from the Japanese tsunami, and people did it then as well. Unreal.

@m1lly.x yeah same i was thinking that but then people would think it’s a shark so then they would get scared and you don’t know what would happen one person could have a heart attack
It's so hard when people don't listen I was an assistant lifeguard at a beach in canada for a course I took and no one listened to a 14 year old but thankfully nothing serious happened

Not everyone recovers from heat related disorders as quickly as this woman. Altered mental status is your first clue that something is serious. As shown, getting out of heat is number one. Sometimes IV fluids are needed so it was wise to call for the medics. Luckily this woman was able to drink.
That woman “I’m not scared”. The arrogance! 🤬 I’ll also never understand why people choose not to go to hospital if they take on a lot of water. Either they have no idea what secondary drowning is or they just don’t care and it won’t happen to them. 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
