Thank you for taking the time to explain the reality of buying precious metals without all the romantic language used in most commercial ads.

Great info. My only concern is if it came to a point, gold and silver would be worthless as well. If I need hay for my cows, selling eggs for gold doesn't do me any good. Trading eggs for hay would make more sense.. I can't feed gold and silver to my cows in the winter. The only people that would want to buy your gold or silver would be the super rich, and might charge a high premium to deal in gold or silver.

Gold is mainly for use on the other side of a collapse when an economy starts up again. Until then bartering like you said would be the norm. As local economies get re-established, I think people would start accepting silver for everyday purchases. The one-ounce silver and also "junk" silver (pre-1965 dimes, quarters, and half-dollars).

Would the owner of the hay be able to eat/use all those eggs before they spoil? Or would he be willing to keep a set rate in eggs for hay including storing it for you through the year? And what if your hens quit laying or his hay burned/spoiled in that timeframe? If you need 1-2 bales total, yes swapping for some eggs or a laying hen (or even an unrelated new rooster) could be interesting. But you rapidly end up with complicated constructions that work way better with a neutral barter item.
Or you'd see the village as one community/familiy so no bills for individual things, just everybody chipping in what they do best so everybody has food, clothes and help with harvest and such. Originally money was for outside trade, not inside the community where the interdependance made that stupid.

Fantastic video, once and while he was talking about silver and gold. Just have to give a shout out to a great and caring local coin shop and his owner- Harry's Coin Shop out in Beaverton, Oregon.

On small gold coins for direct buying from private seller and so on, something they recognize and has the numbers on them is way easier to convince them of how much gold they are getting then some old country coin that doesn't say such even if the premium is way lower. You are looking at a situation where you may not be able to look up the gold weight of the coins online. And you may not have a scale that is accurate enough for the needed calculations. There are non electric ways to prove gold percentage, but weight is trickier.

Very interesting. Something I have never considered. Since learning about it a while back I have struggled with the question you asked in the final tips explanation about how it can be used in a "money worthless" scenario. Still struggling a bit with the answer given but there must be something to it that I have not quite figured out yet. Thanks to you both for the information.

Ya pay cash for the silver. Then move to gold. If ya sell, trade or invest in anything tangible you don't need to pay capitol gaines
