Giggs's goal vs Juve would be replicated in the following season against Arsenal in the FA Cup semifinal replay where he beat the Gunners famous back 4 en route to that goal. It was a carbon copy from the same spot and the manner in which he blasted the ball into the roof of the net giving the keeper no chance. He beat Italy's No.1 Angelo Peruzzi in this game and that game vs Arsenal in 1999, he beat England's No.1 David Seaman.
Lol, yeah... no shit he was a recognised expert at free kicks! One of the best players in the world... made it look easy. Great commentary from Brian Moore and Big Ron Atkinson. They don't make them like that any more!
That tackle from Pallister... good grief! Inzaghi was locked and loaded! What a GREAT tackle! One of the best defensive tackles I've seen throughout the years. Clean!
Such fond memories of this match. Even though United reached the semi-final the season before, they really struggled in those early Champions League years and were defeated regularly in the 3-4 seasons before this. There were losses to Barcelona, Dortmund, Juventus, Gothenburg, and Fenerbahce. And of course the away goals knock out to Galatasaray. Juventus were probably the best team in the world at that point and aside from them scoring in the first and last minute of this game, United really took this game to them, and proved that they could finally beat a European heavyweight. Amazing atmosphere as well. I feel this is a bit of a forgotten game, but for me it was one of the great Old Trafford nights in Europe. This was mentally such an important game for United, as at this point we hadn’t beat a European giant in the Champions League era. Very disappointingly we lost in the quarter final that season to Monaco. However, we all know what happened the season after.
100% agree... although that was the year when they started expanding it. I know it grew the competition, but I still preferred it when it was a more exclusive, more prestigious, true champions' league.
The Sheringham equaliser and the result were huge in lifting United’s mentality in Europe. Juventus were the top team and most feared for a good few years. They beat us home and away the previous season, both 1-0, so scoring against them showed they can be got at.
He wasn't the player who was offside when the ball was initially played in... watch again. It was Solskjaer #20 well offside when the ball was headed in to Giggs before he headed it across to Sheringham. Unsure why Sheringham was flagged, because he was well onside when Giggs headed to him.
@@SubManifest I know, however, I've seen goals disallowed over the years because one attacker was offside and not directly involved. Sherringham definitely wasn't offside here. There are examples of various offside decisions that involve potentially crucial goals being wrong... like John Barnes's volley for England vs Belgium in Italia '90. Thankfully, Platt won that one off Gazza's floater.
Giggs was faster, with better skills, vision, first touch and overall technique. Beckham was just slightly more elegant and accurate. Giggs was the best winger in the last 40 years. People tend to forget how good he was.
I wonder who it was who you could hear shouting "Go Ryan!!" when he was on that crazy run like a freight train before scoring that blistering goal?? Will that one please come forward... 😎

Great commentary from Brian Moore and Ron Atkinson 👍🏼 I remember this game well, was pretty relieved at the final whistle when United won it!
Inzaghi, Sheringham, Scholes, Giggs Zidane. Only football royalty on the scoresheet that night..
Del Piero not Inzaghi
Not inzaghi. The legendary del piero
@@reggaetonero0407 dno why i got that wrong lol. As a kid i thought ADP was the best player in the world.
Johnsen was really underrated. Played a ton of games in midfield and never let the team down
Also in central defence
'He is a recognised expert, that Zidane.' Miss Big Ron's commentary 😂
I seem to remember there was a website dedicated to big Ron’s unique vernacular. “Ronglish”

Ronny Johnsen..what a player he was
Ryan Giggs 🔥 Simply the Best
When the Champions League was the CHAMPIONS League...not the top 4 League

That wasn't Del Piero, that was Bruce Springsteen who scored.
Del Piero was onside for the opener, actually. It looked a mile off, but he was level when the pass was made.
My favourite United game
Shocking editing on this video
Due to bypass copyright issues.....
This has been the match thas start everything, beat the number 1 club in the world.. an ideal pass of the crown
Worst offside decision I’ve seen against sherringham. He was still onside when the flag was fully raised
Spot on especially after their 1st goal 🤷🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️👍🏼🏴
At that timw juventus was like chelski

Scholes turned peruzzi inside out
2 genuine world class team

how I wish I could go back to October 1 97
👍👍👍👍👍👍
Whyyyyy this horrible edit.
Steady on... we're lucky to even have this footage on youtube at all these days. Great memories of that match thanks to the uploader!
No Del Piero
