      The one thing I regret is that Redondo had left Madrid before Zidane came in. Would pay a lot of money to see them both on the pitch. Just imagine: Redondo - Zidane - Makelele. Brutal.

    One of the BEST 3 champions leage games I ever saw.
    The reason is that Man United was a tripple champion in 1999. In the first leg game at Madrid they draw and everbody was expecting that Man United can easily win at Old Trafford. However, with Redondo's exceptional performance Madrid won the game.

      United had a goalless first leg at Madrid. No away goal scored and once United conceded a goal at Old Trafford, they need to score at least twice to advance, after conceding the first goal, they conceded two more goals shortly after the break. At that time, they need to score at least 4 times to advance and they can score only two. Real Madrid eliminated the title holder and went on to win the trophy even they finished fifth in La Liga and forcing 4th place team transferred to UEFA Cup.

    Remember United had a poor record in two-legged tie in UCL after having a goalless draw away in 1st leg. This match repeated the fate of what happened at the same stage in 1997-98 vs Monaco, 0-0 a, 1-1 h, (1-1, lose on away goal). Actually, they had this result in 6 occasions and only advance in 3 occasions (two of the elimination was vs La Liga teams: one was 17/18 vs Sevilla, 0-0 a, 1-2 h) and won 1-0 at home vs Barcelona in 2008 and won 2-0 at home vs Inter (coached by Mourinho) in 2009

    If there was VAR at the time, that Madrid's player would have been sent off for that handball plus a penalty kick with more than half the match to go. United were better most of the game, but that unlucky own goal was decisive. Madrid felt relief and were clinical while United were nervous when they had to be clinical.

    • @johnpreston8621

      Если бы да кабы. Вы не можете разобраться с главными мошенниками в истории футбола - Манчестер Сити, но при этом ноете и рыдаете из-за одного спорного эпизода почти четверть века тому назад. И, кстати, при всем моем уважении к Ливерпулю в полуфинале с Ромой там был чистейший волейбол на 62 минуте, если не ошибаюсь = красная карточка и пенальти в пользу Ромы.

    • @johnpreston8621
      @johnpreston8621 Месяц назад +1

      Кстати, ровно год назад у МС было три случая хэндболла в своей штрафной = ни один эпизод не был рассмотрен главным арбитром, хотя два эпизода были далеко не так однозначны. И надо же - никого не наказали.
