Jesus Christ, I thought Disk Cleanup took clear of this. Mine had thousands of files dating back to 2020 despite running clean up tool every year. Maybe Win10 is just bad at it.
Nice video, but I don't see how a Temp folder containing files can slow down the boot process. Unless the disk is nearly full. Also when cleaning out the temp folder, usually I sort the Date column in Windows Explorer and delete everything that has a date BEFORE today and leave the rest alone (since it's more likely to be in use).
Just what I was looking for! I've recently been clearing out some clutter with the Disk Clean-up app, but when I opened my W10 System Storage just now, it shows that I've got 11.4GB of temporary files! I've now opened it and can get rid of about 8.4GB because I've got some files on hold in my Recycle Bin (.98GB) which I won't empty until I've decided whether to keep them or not. However, my Local Disk C:/Windows/Temp folder only shows a TINY list of files, even though I've ticked "Hidden Items", so that doesn't make any sense to me because it's not showing the 4.45GB of Downloads, 2.97GB of Windows Update Clean-up, or 1.78GB of User file history. Does anyone here have any advice to give me? Thanks.
I also type in "prefetch" in the run box, and use the same delete procedure
Hi Brent,
Thanks for the video. Always informative.
I delete "temp" %temp%" and "prefetch"
Take care.
Deleting the prefetch folder doesn't do much (or anything at all) in terms of gaining performance or diskspace.
Okay, cool. I was taught to always check those three folders. We were all taught in different ways.
Take care.
Cheers!

Windows always leaves 100's of files in the temp folder over a month.
i have to click on the three dots, click on "select all"...then right click on one of the files...this highlites all of them...then select delete all
