When we lived there, off Wayne near Esther Price, our neighbor did an annual sweep with the cooperation of the city Sanitary Services. We would walk the alley’s along with the city crews, and toss anything “trashy” in the trucks. After a few years, folks started keeping their properties cleaner. That was when Mike Turner was Mayor, and his admin supported citizens taking care of their neighborhoods. Now it doesn’t seem that way, and the city sure isn’t going to do it.
There was a day when non-violent prisoners and those serving community hours would be ordered community clean up. State govt has gone soft on punishment. As a girl I remember passing "county corrections vans" on the road as guards supervised prisoners doing roadside clean up.
They know. However, those voting them in are the same voters that create these dumpy areas. Dayton is very segregated in many respects. Older sections, the west and north/northwest areas are heavily black or mixed, the notable exception being Oakwood (just south of the downtown), whereas the areas along the 675 bypass are middle to upper middle class. The politicians tend to be Dems, and they really don't give a damn about those that vote them in.
There have been a few stories on WHIO that showed some of the elderly residents in these areas going out and picking up the trash. The city needs to have a war on litter and the people who are caught littering and illegally dumping trash should be on chain gangs cleaning up the mess they made. It’s sad to see this happening and the city was not like this when I was a kid. Even the real estate agents have videos beefing on Dayton and pushing their high dollar homes in Beavercreek and the gated golf course communities in Springboro.
I did the same thing couple months ago ,I grew up in north Dayton ,kiser high go panthers ! School was gone ,but the memories remain ,Dayton was a living breathing thriving machine, back then and pretty sad to to see what it's become 😔
Man I've seen this town go under. The city doesn't do their job's. The people act like it's not their problem or responsibile for the trash. The bank's and land owners don't do their part. Most banks and owners burn these houses down. The city officials are corrupt. Police are corrupt. Most of Dayton is low income making it easy to fall into drug's or dealing. Most people here make minimum wage and bills have doubled. Gas is off the charts. It's allot. Man. Work your ass off get a raise think it's going to get better. Then rent goes up and your worse off than before. All of this was planned. Jobs outsourced to other countries and drug dealers moved in. Dayton is ground zero for new drugs. Doctors give away prescriptions like candy so they can get rich faster this is why we're having opioid overdoses. The doctors don't care because their doctors they are the ones who say your addicted. Hell they can say anything on paper. So if you go against them it's on record your an addict.. We need new city leaders. Honest leaders that know what the city and the people need.
The new mayor will not do a thing, the old mayor thought she should be governor. They can do something about the blight and urban decay or people will abandon the city the first chance they get.

bro im coming to dayton to work as a healthcare provider, i really dont know if i shall push it through or not, i got no idea how dayton living condiiton is
Dayton is a nice city… These videos or photos you see is NOT the city as a whole. I moved to the city over a year ago from Los Angeles. I actually live 3 miles from downtown Dayton.
You'll be fine if ya don't move to the west side. Some ppl say the east side too.But it doesn't compare at all to how bad the west side is.Before I moved to San Diego in 2018 ,it wasn't even many places to get groceries. And now with inflation I'm sure it's tougher bcuz inflation hits harder depending on where you live and what your city didn't have in the 1st place.Theres nice places to live in dayton and on the outskirts like Beavercreek,Yellow Springs,Oakwood,Moraine, many more.
The pepole that need help cant get it but the ones that cume to this country have no problem getting help free medical food stamps but the people like the elderly get very little you got some households thats got 2 or 3 families liveing there and they all get goverment assistance
I got a house next to me that the woman that owns it only been there one time thats when they cleaned it out now shes in mexico it hast been touched in 3 or four months
Thanks. I work retail so know how much trash gets picked up at work and some just leave really odd things out. Sex toys, porn pictures, dirty undies, and the usual.
Your mayor or goverment dont care it depends on what class you are in if you live in a high class nabierhood they care but if you live in a lower class neaiberhood they dont caer
I’m very sad to see any place in Dayton to look like this. I lived on Brown Street back in the early 70s with my parents and never did I ever see nothing like this on Brown Street or the alleys there sad so bad now live in Tennessee and what a beautiful place Love it would not go back today specially, after seeing this stuff wow.

They still do, just not as often. I drove past a corrections van yesterday and seen them cleaning up
You need to get out more. I see them all the time but it is mostly highways and state routes

Your mayor dont care about the poor side of his city just the rich sides of town

The elderly should't have to clean up after the pepole that makes the mess but they do becase there the only ones that care
I lived on Valley St as a kid in the 80’s. It was jacked then.
Looks like east or west Dayton. By the looks of the abandoned houses, more west than east. Sad.

If you have a good job you should be able to afford to live in the nicer areas of Dayton. The cost of living is pretty cheap iirc

Does the city not give a fuck? Or they dont have funds
It’s a little bit of both and the people in those neighborhoods should not have to live like that.
