  • Greetings! Purchase Items Here: Did Henson Razors know something we didn’t know? Did they predict the future? How did they know to switch away from the Astra Superior Platinum blades which are made in Saint Petersburg Russia to New RK Blades which are made in India? Geo is curious about the quality of the new RK blade and how it will perform in The Henson razor since they are mated, or designed for each other. He performs a shave with the Henson Medium Version Aircraft Aluminum razor loaded with the RK blade. Lathering up with the Shave Nation Patriot Brush in the Shave Nation Ceramic Bowl that is filled with Arko shaving soap. If you were paying attention you noticed that he did not employ the Shave Nation Wide Stick Alum Block in today’s shave but went directly to the TOBS Sandalwood Moisturising Cream aftershave. A great Shave and demonstration of how to shave using a 3-Piece safety razor to achieve a baby smooth shave! The Henson razors are a great choice for beginners since they are mild shaving and have an intuitive, easy to learn shaving technique. The Mild is great for head and body shaving while the Medium AL13 is great for face shaving. Great for wet shaving veterans and beginners alike. Geo💈🪒 Another great shave and review. The Henson seems to do the job no sweat, swapping the included blades to the RK brand may be marketing or future proofing in case Russian blades are banned or not available down the road..who knows. In any case, the blades seem to work good as well, didn't hear any complaints from you. Would like to know how they'll work in other razors(hint), being made specifically for the Henson. Liking the new handle on the XL brush, will definitely fit my rather large paws much better. Take care, see you next time. Enjoy!

    Hi Geo. My good lady got me a Henson for Christmas (based on your previous review). I was using an Ed Jagger DE89 and a Feather SR kamisori (you read out a comment of mine to this effect a couple years ago). The Henson has gone straight into heavy rotation. The shave is absolutely outstanding.
    The Henson has a tendency to bend the blade excessively near the edge to provide the right profile. Perhaps RK have allowed for this with these blades.
    Mine came with Astras BTW as this was before the Russkies were somewhat Persona Non Grata :-D

      The angle of the razor is much different than most. Imagine a clock, where the 5 o clock hand would be. Thats teh correct angle, much steeper than traditional DE razors.
      Also I found sharpness to be a factor, for me the Astra blades were not cutting it, literally.

    So how much do different razors impact how it shaves? Like is the blade brand more important than the razor brand or would it be something like 60/40 the blade and razor or w/e? I was using one brand of razors and it was butchering me. Then I actually got a 2 blade sampler and used a Feather, which is supposedly super sharp and slices people up, yet when I shaved with it it didn't give me as much razor burn as it did with the previous blade. Basically just trying to find out if the razor itself even matters compared to the blade or not

    • @salogel88
      @salogel88 2 года назад

      IMO it matters. Some razors are fiddly and not wery well made (my Fatip - the blade has a LOT of play and you have to fiddle with it to get even blade reveal and i don't like that). Muhle R41 will be always agressive. More with a Feather blade than with Derby green but still an agressive razor. Wilkinson sword classic(the black plastic one) will be always mild - but with a Feather blade it'll be a touch more agressive and effective than with a Derby green - but still mild. I'd say it's like 70/30 (razor/blade) maybe even 80/20 if you consider using good blades and not crap ones :D Also everybody is different and has different style of shaving that makes huge difference :) That being said i had some really crappy blades that made the shave super uncomfy and had to throw them away(bad batch maybe?). Some razors I like better than others and when I find razor I like I fine tune it with blades. If i don't like that razor the blades won't save it for me.

    I got the Henson mild razor. First time with a DE razor coming from mach 3 Fusion. After 3 shaves (I shave once every 2 weeks and have coarse hair), I found I had to take many more swipes and had to add and remove cream 3 times with some touch ups at the end with my glasses on. Any suggestions for me? Should I try new blades or try the Henson medium? I thought the perk of DE shaving was less irritation but I had more. Maybe bc the Henson doesn't have the moisturizing strip to keep it smooth after first swipes.

    • @nthdegree1269
      @nthdegree1269 4 месяца назад

      Angle and pressure. Make sure you are using good blades. Try a blade pack and see which ones you like. Shaving is a light touch with the proper angle. Stretch the skin in certain areas if you need to. I have used the Edwin Jagger De89, for years... and I hardly ever get irritation anywhere and cuts are rare. It's a Mild Razor, so I couple it with the Sharpest Blade you can buy. The Feather blades. It's a match made in heaven. The combination works well for me.
      Prep the face well with a good cream or pre shave.
      Also because your hair is coarse, you might want to look at something like Merkur 37c Slant. The Slant Razors are ideal for people with coarse hair.

      @@nthdegree1269 I've only used the RK blades that come with henson. I have to go over it again and again with a decent amount of pressure. I'll see if that makes a diff. otherwise I might try the henson al13 medium or maybe another razor like you mentioned. Henson is expensive.

    • @nthdegree1269
      @nthdegree1269 4 месяца назад

      @dsha2006 A lot of people complained about the Henson because it's extremely precise... the razor won't cut if it's not at that precise angle, and you have to go over the spot numerous times. Which is a good thing for people who are new to this sort of shaving because it helps them get their angle and technique down..The Shaving Channel "Ohio shaves" talks about that. You can check out his videos with the Henson. If it's not the angle, definitely get different blades.
      Double-edged blades are much sharper than the multi cartridge shavers.

    I find that the RK blades need to be replaced after 3 shaves max. It starts to tug for me when going against the grain by the 3rd shave and I start to get nicks. So, I am surprised the replacement suggestion is every 5 to 7 shaves. Maybe my hair is thicker so the blade dulls quicker.

      The way it's designed, there is less blade protrusion and its design pushes the skin how it needs. I shave every day with a a futur and Gillette platinums set to 1.5 or 2.5 after a few days. On setting 1 it is still more aggressive than the Henson medium. I get almost zero irritation from this, in part I believe because of the aggressive blade, profile, and the weight of the razor. I purchased the medium Henson, and it was extremely light and still relatively mild. I feel the Henson medium is a little bit of a compromise, it is not as non-irritating as the mild but also not really aggressive enough for a one pass shave. In the end it winds up not really being that exceptional in either category. I feel that with more time I would get it to work for me but I would personally get the mild if I were to buy it again, it would be less of a compromise and most likely be somewhat kinder to my skin. I find that if I cannot get a one pass shave like I can with an aggressive razor, a very mild razor is better at reducing the irritation of that second pass.At least in that case the mild razor would perform well in one category.

Now with the RK's? Looks like both are throwaways after the first or second shave. I'm not a cheapskate but it just seems kind of wasteful to me. Even the throwaways are good for at least a single shave.

      With the mild Henson, I get about 4 shaves from an Astra. Shaving about 2 to 3 times a week. I think the Henson is a great razor. I was gifted a Rex Ambassador and continue to use the Astra blade. I have tried a number of different blades in both the Henson and the Ambassador and always come back to the Astras.

    👍👍👍 Great Shave, but RK BLADES are used at barber shops in INDIA and are considered to be of poor quality, I have tried these blades but not for me even tuggy and scratchy on first shave no match to ASTRAs I think the HENSON RAZOR company is trying to save money 😀👍👍

    I guess swapping the blades to add their own blade brand to the core of the brand was planned anyway. The virtual signailing departure from the Russian product thus becomes a knock-on effect in terms of marketing.

    I appreciate all your videos but If that blade or razor was any good, that amount of buffering and passes would not be necessary. Just because a razor is costly, doesn't mean its any good. Usually its the Marketing, fancy box and etc that drives the price up. I counted 220+ strokes on your first pass- That is insane. To get your BBS shave, it could be near 400 strokes ( I lost count). All this creates serious irritation, blemishes and razor burn. This proves that razor is average at best. I don't care if a razor is made from Aerospace Aluminum or Martian metal..its all BS. I recommend anyone to Get a OC or OC slant with a Quality blade and your done in one pass. Keep it simple!
