simon plays a 16th variation too using up to 3 strings at a time, that's way more impressive ;) the cure's work - especially for drums and bass - was always a mere stamina exercise... i guess that's why simon is still in such good shape while robert... well... :D
I have listened to so many versions of this song and this is one of the best. That damn Boris was such a kick-ass drummer for the Cure. Listening and watching him behind a kit just makes you realize how dearly the Cure misses him. These were truly great times for the Cure. They sounded incredible live. I am so fortunate I got a chance to see them on the Wish tour.
This song right here, lives and breathes, it is everything, it will steal your soul and swallow you whole, break your heart, move you to tears and tear you apart, it will love you and hate you, kick your ass and berate you. You will laugh and cry, you will bleed and die, you will lay on the ground and stare blindly at the sky, you will surrender and scream, it won't leave, it can't, you will never give it up, you will never let it go. -Amanda Corrin Westfall
if I was stuck on a island with only this song playing over I'd die a happy man. like most cure songs you get lost in the music and it takes you places. magical stuff 😚
You couldn't have done it and written any better than you already did. The(Y) Cure isn't just a band. They are a soul soothers and a joy to this world. Mind you... just 2 days ago they've made it here in Romania for the first time ever. And i kept my promise, i went to see them performing live. I am still there and here on YT, can't help it. I am lost in their music. May God bless them and all supporters and fans around the Globe!
Omg this is the first time I’ve seen them play it in this style and tempo. It’s like a whole new song, Roberts vocals are so magical and intense. Just an absolute masterpiece.
you should check the live version that's on the Disintegration's Deluxe Edition, it's sounds like this, with the same tempo and style but I would say that it sounds even better, Robert's voice is incredibly good
@@misaholopainen9075 listening now! Have met Robert once and seen them live once at the barrier but unfortunately they didn’t play disintegration! Need to see it live!
Boris Williams on drums... Simon Gallup on Bass.... Robert in his prime... the likes will probably not be seen again. Utter brilliance. "Oh, I miss the kiss of treachery, the shameless kiss of vanity, the eye the mouth, and the heart oblique..."
4:00 Robert with some (alternative lyrics) and not skipping a beat! (Pushing deep) for the fear of sleep again (Taking it out like it's going home again) (Running around like he's all on his own again)
The album "Disintegration, is to "ThE CuRe, What "Black Celebration is to "Depeche ModE... So grateful I caught the scene when it was fresh, and was able to see it then, and allow this brilliant music to still pour over me like cool rain, feeling fresh every time..
I love this song , such strong heartfelt emotions and beautiful lyrics from the great living legend Robert Smith ! I'm so happy I grew up with The Cure! I remember watching their music videos on MTV, when they actually played music on that channel! Love them, especially my man Robert!
hensly77 I have 1 ticket for Chicago for sale! Its the first night section 106(section right after floor. I jumped the gun and bought tickets for chicago show because i was scared they wouldn't come any closer . Anyways , I'm just wanting to get my cost back if possible ! Want to buy a ticket
The best concert of the cure ever! Pictures of You, Fascination Street, Just like Heaven, in betwen Days, a forest and desintegration are superb versions!
The raw emotion of this song and it’s powerful relationship torn lyrics makes it one of my all time favorites. Having driven a truck for 30 yrs, you could say I know a fair bit of music
As a young man, I stayed up until 1 am to watch this on eMptyV. I look back on this as a defining momet in my life, and only wish that I was born 13 years earlier so I could grow old WITH the Cure.
The whole concert was/is just awesome. Boris indeed is supreme. Love Pearl as well. Only saw them with that line up in 1992. It was my first Cure concert and I was 15 years old. I could not fully appreciate this line up.
this version, of all versions, even the album, all other live performances; its the greatest one. the most emotion shown, everyone in their prime, everyone performing with their heart.
I'm watching this on mute whilst watching the Cure perform this song right now as the headliners of Glastonbury, 29 years later. And the are literally no different apart from the effects of aging... They are simply absolute timeless masters of their craft.
The Cure is one of the few bands that can touch my heart and make me feel goosebumps every single time , this version is flawless. they're like my therapists!
this gloriously dark song, particularly the album version, sounds like a companion piece to “From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea” on their next album (“Wish”)
Yeah, I miss the kiss of treachery The shameless kiss of vanity The soft and the black and the velvety Up tight against the side of me And mouth and eyes and heart all bleed And run in thickening streams of greed As bit by bit, it starts the need To just let go, my party piece Yeah, I miss the kiss of treachery The shameless kiss before I feed The stench of a love for younger meat And the sound it makes when it cuts in deep The holding up on bended knees The addiction of duplicities As bit by bit, it starts the need To just let go, my party piece But I never said I would stay to the end I leave you with babies and hoping for secrecy Screaming like this in the hope of sincerity Scream with me over and over and over I leave you with photographs, pictures of trickery Stains on the carpet and stains on the scenery Songs about happiness murmured in dreams And we both of us knew how the ending would be So it's all come back round to breaking apart again Breaking apart like I'm made up of glass again Making it up behind my back again Making it afraid for the fear of sleep again Pushed in deep to bare bone again Take him outside like he's all on his own again Round and round and round, it's coming apart again Over and over and over Now that I know that I'm breaking to pieces I'll pull out my heart and I'll feed it to anyone Crying for comfort, crocodiles cry For the love of the crowd and the three cheers from everyone Dropping through sky, through the glass of the roof Through the roof of your mouth, through the mouth of your eye Through the eye of the needle, it's easier for me To get closer to heaven than ever feel whole again I never said I would stay to the end I'd leave you with babies and hoping for secrecy Screaming like this in the hole of sincerity Scream with me over and over and over I leave you with photographs, pictures of trickery And stains on the carpet and stains on the memory Songs about happiness murmured in dreams And we both of us knew how the end always is How the end always is How the end always is How the end always is How the end always is How the end always is Always is Always is Always is Always is Always Always Always Always Always Always is Lyrics by The Cure

I play along to the album version on my drums and it's like a workout everytime. Very simple beat but the precision in which it's played requires unbreakable stamina and rhythm. I haven't tried to play it at this tempo yet--I might burn 1000 calories doing so. Haha.
I love The CURE even if they don't know every single fan. But I know bringing me happiness gives them a cure. Love every piece of art they can throw at the world.
Their drummer now is Jason Cooper and he has been with the band since 1996. He is the drummer that has played the longest amount of time with the cure. He's not Boris Williams but he is very very good. He plays just fine and more importantly gets along well with everyone in the band.

You know Simon was like dude your killing me lol
Presuming this particular song is 7 mins long the hi hat was hit 6,720 in this video absolute madness
I love the additional riff the bass player adds to this song in addition to the main bass line. Gives it an inpatient urge - sounds amazing.
Hit that right on the nail

Yeah, I miss the kiss of treachery
The shameless kiss of vanity
The soft and the black and the velvety
Up tight against the side of me
And mouth and eyes and heart all bleed
And run in thickening streams of greed
As bit by bit, it starts the need
To just let go, my party piece
Yeah, I miss the kiss of treachery
The shameless kiss before I feed
The stench of a love for younger meat
And the sound it makes when it cuts in deep
The holding up on bended knees
The addiction of duplicities
As bit by bit, it starts the need
To just let go, my party piece
But I never said I would stay to the end
I leave you with babies and hoping for secrecy
Screaming like this in the hope of sincerity
Scream with me over and over and over
I leave you with photographs, pictures of trickery
Stains on the carpet and stains on the scenery
Songs about happiness murmured in dreams
And we both of us knew how the ending would be
So it's all come back round to breaking apart again
Breaking apart like I'm made up of glass again
Making it up behind my back again
Making it afraid for the fear of sleep again
Pushed in deep to bare bone again
Take him outside like he's all on his own again
Round and round and round, it's coming apart again
Over and over and over
Now that I know that I'm breaking to pieces
I'll pull out my heart and I'll feed it to anyone
Crying for comfort, crocodiles cry
For the love of the crowd and the three cheers from everyone
Dropping through sky, through the glass of the roof
Through the roof of your mouth, through the mouth of your eye
Through the eye of the needle, it's easier for me
To get closer to heaven than ever feel whole again
I never said I would stay to the end
I'd leave you with babies and hoping for secrecy
Screaming like this in the hole of sincerity
Scream with me over and over and over
I leave you with photographs, pictures of trickery
And stains on the carpet and stains on the memory
Songs about happiness murmured in dreams
And we both of us knew how the end always is
How the end always is
How the end always is
How the end always is
How the end always is
How the end always is
Always is
Always is
Always is
Always is
Always
Always
Always
