It honestly makes me SO SAD to know that one day I will die, and never be able to listen to this ever again... Such a powerful, emotion inducing song. Even after hearing it (quite literally) thousands of times, it still gives me chills and makes the hairs stand up on my neck, EVERY TIME. Pretty sure this is my favorite song from The Cure. In fact, this entire album is an absolute masterpiece.
Don’t be sad - We never die - this and everything else will always be there for you to experience as often as you want - in truth you and everything and everyone will be part of this, able to feel it truly
And do not forget: "Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me" in May 1987 (I think I am write, but please feel free, to google my opinions or even better: ME!) This was the perfect POP-Music-album, but without the shallow grounds.
He’s incredible all the way around.. lyrically, vocally, guitar, and how the band puts it all together. I can’t wait for them to come back to the states. He is also a huge fan of The Twilight Sad which is another of my favorite bands
At the age of 75 I get odd looks from people when I play this music. But it’s complete and envelopes you and you become part of it. Smith is a genius songwriter but it took a long time before he got the award he deserved. I’ll have this at my funeral, together with The Weaver’s Answer by The Family. But that’s a long way off yet, I hope!
This is heaven on earth. I don't know how they do it but The Cure's music has the craziest exhilarating effect on me. This song is perfection. So subtle yet so powerful. Everything about it is beautiful. If you would rather find fault or criticize this rather than simply absorb and enjoy, you're only hurting yourself.
Storm, thunder, a night like this, a night of nostalgia, a night to go out swimming past the surf, past the breakers, past the point of no return, to sink, to surrender, to drown, to never again wonder, to never again regret,, a muse, a song, a gasp, I see my god I see, a sound and fury, then nothing.
"I will kiss you I will kiss you I will kiss you forever on nights like this I will kiss you I will kiss you and we shall be together" I think my heart skipped a beat ...
I agree with your comment, This has tears rolling from eyes. In a nostalgic way. I went to the Disintegration concert in Phoenix. Literally in a Monsoon Storm! While the band played this song, i realized i was married to the wrong woman... The Cure have been in my life for happy & sad times. Took my son to see them last May. May God Bless The Cure for all the wonderful music & lyrics. Plus the concerts thru the years were awesome!!
Robert's lyric's are poetic that evokes deep emotions in each one of us. His instrumentals are a reflection of a era that had since bypassed us...where Opera has the same meaning and influences. Robert is a unique! He reminds us that a composer can bring about excellent music in our time. He will be as timeless as Beethoven!
I think the cure never had been a very popular and comercial group; but they don't need it; people like me and others who discovered them by ourselves; now can appreciate their talent and their music and now we are addicted to them...(sorry for my english) A comment from Mexico. Thanks forever Robert.
Robert is THE MASTER ! ALL his SONGS FULL OF HEART AND SOUL AND BRAIN and HIS PSYCHOLOGICAL CONDITION WAVE also schwimming and drowning with the first and the last KISS
i have the Trilogy dvd, and i swear Robert is crying during this song (you can see the tear, i think,) which always makes me cry, too. i saw The Cure play at HFStival 2004, and i bawled the entire time.
Drinking a glass of red wine, raining hard with lightning/thunder outside and I couldn't be happier or in more despair...Perfect song for the current mood....
has there ever been a more perfect song???? This song takes me to that place I like to be on a Friday night......all alone.....by choice... thinking prob more than I should.....but life is full of "head drama" :)
I've always loved the way Robert puts a whole bar in between the last "The very last thing before I go..." and "I shall kiss you." That little bit of tension is genius. Roger Waters did something similar in leaving space (for reverb) between phrases in "Us and Them". Brilliant songwriters know that sometimes, less is more.
When this came out in 1989 it was unlike anything else. It remains a classic 22 years later. And the Trilogy DVD is exquisitely produced, it truly rivals their actual performances if played on a good sound system.
Kiss me goodbye Pushing out before I sleep Can't you see I try Swimming the same deep water as you is hard The shallow drowned lose less than we You breathe the strangest twist upon your lips And we shall be together And we shall be together Kiss me goodbye Bow your head and join with me And face pushed deep reflections meet The strangest twist upon your lips And disappear the ripples clear And laughing break against your feet And laughing break the mirror sweet So we shall be together So we shall be together Kiss me goodbye pushing out before I sleep It's lower now and slower now The strangest twist upon your lips But I don't see and I don't feel But tightly hold up silently My hands before my fading eyes And in my eyes your smile The very last thing before I go The very last thing before I go The very last thing before I go I will kiss you, I will kiss you I will kiss you forever on nights like this I will kiss you, I will kiss you And we shall be together

A true lyrical genius of pure emotion that is hauntingly beautiful and exhilarating. His musical compositions are unique and captivating. They move ever so slowly, rising with each chord and verse...
The tears and the voice break when he sings "I will kiss you." Hard to imagine how show after show and year after year these songs to make Rob cry. Amazing.
I sort of missed the Cure in my 90's upbringing. hearing random stuff like "Burn" from the Crow soundtrack and snippets from other albums I always enjoyed it but never investigated. Now in my mid 30's I find myself immersed in their discography. Disintegration is by far my favorite album and I often have it on loop while i paint. Very powerful.
The summer of 1989 was a mixed one for me...I separated from my (now ex) husband, and spent the summer away at the lake. And being in the throes of depression and unsettling, this album became my soundtrack. Amazing how someone across the world can tell your story in their music and without knowing. I will always love Robert & The Cure for this album....

That is an understatement.

Kiss me goodbye
Pushing out before I sleep
Can't you see I try
Swimming the same deep water as you is hard
The shallow drowned lose less than we
You breathe the strangest twist upon your lips
And we shall be together
And we shall be together
Kiss me goodbye
Bow your head and join with me
And face pushed deep reflections meet
The strangest twist upon your lips
And disappear the ripples clear
And laughing break against your feet
And laughing break the mirror sweet
So we shall be together
So we shall be together
Kiss me goodbye pushing out before I sleep
It's lower now and slower now
The strangest twist upon your lips
But I don't see and I don't feel
But tightly hold up silently
My hands before my fading eyes
And in my eyes your smile
The very last thing before I go
The very last thing before I go
The very last thing before I go
I will kiss you, I will kiss you
I will kiss you forever on nights like this
I will kiss you, I will kiss you
And we shall be together
