It honestly makes me SO SAD to know that one day I will die, and never be able to listen to this ever again... Such a powerful, emotion inducing song. Even after hearing it (quite literally) thousands of times, it still gives me chills and makes the hairs stand up on my neck, EVERY TIME. Pretty sure this is my favorite song from The Cure. In fact, this entire album is an absolute masterpiece.

At the age of 75 I get odd looks from people when I play this music. But it’s complete and envelopes you and you become part of it. Smith is a genius songwriter but it took a long time before he got the award he deserved. I’ll have this at my funeral, together with The Weaver’s Answer by The Family. But that’s a long way off yet, I hope!

This is heaven on earth. I don't know how they do it but The Cure's music has the craziest exhilarating effect on me. This song is perfection. So subtle yet so powerful. Everything about it is beautiful. If you would rather find fault or criticize this rather than simply absorb and enjoy, you're only hurting yourself.

Storm, thunder, a night like this, a night of nostalgia, a night to go out swimming past the surf, past the breakers, past the point of no return, to sink, to surrender, to drown, to never again wonder, to never again regret,, a muse, a song, a gasp, I see my god I see, a sound and fury, then nothing.

Robert's lyric's are poetic that evokes deep emotions in each one of us. His instrumentals are a reflection of a era that had since bypassed us...where Opera has the same meaning and influences. Robert is a unique! He reminds us that a composer can bring about excellent music in our time. He will be as timeless as Beethoven!

I've always loved the way Robert puts a whole bar in between the last "The very last thing before I go..." and "I shall kiss you." That little bit of tension is genius. Roger Waters did something similar in leaving space (for reverb) between phrases in "Us and Them". Brilliant songwriters know that sometimes, less is more.

    Kiss me goodbye
    Pushing out before I sleep
    Can't you see I try
Swimming the same deep water as you is hard
The shallow drowned lose less than we
You breathe the strangest twist upon your lips
    And we shall be together
    And we shall be together
    Kiss me goodbye
Bow your head and join with me
And face pushed deep reflections meet
The strangest twist upon your lips
    And disappear the ripples clear
And laughing break against your feet
And laughing break the mirror sweet
    So we shall be together
    So we shall be together
Kiss me goodbye pushing out before I sleep
It's lower now and slower now
The strangest twist upon your lips
    But I don't see and I don't feel
    But tightly hold up silently
My hands before my fading eyes
And in my eyes your smile
The very last thing before I go
The very last thing before I go
The very last thing before I go
I will kiss you, I will kiss you
I will kiss you forever on nights like this

@@donniedarko1345 Damn! We're the same age! I played "Simonette" in a Cure Tribute Band for 7 years here in Portland, OR! We're all scattered now. 😰

I wish I could find the words to describe my appreciation for such a truely elegant song.
There never has been and there never will again be an artist like Robert Smith.
    Long live The Cure.
