Just had a floor done in rectified tile. I would suggest against it. It has to be layed PERFECTLY and ANY imperfection in leveling makes sharp edges very noticeable with bare feet. Even though the wedged leveling method was used there were still tiles that had edges poking up. Also the corners are sharp and you can feel them. For a wall it can be OK but I definitely would NOT recommend for a floor in a residential house.
Abdulrahman Al Jowder glad it helped! You can achieve small grout lines with rectified but they have to do the proper testing with the tile to determine that. Thanks for viewing!
Abdulrahman Al Jowder it's for your own good ,if you are buying large tiles for your floor like 24×48 than you should have used 2mm spacer .This will make your floor more beautiful and attractive .
little monkeys it should have a manufacture recommendation on the box, should! I would go no less than 1/16, personally, but pending how the quality is with the tile can make that size vary.
hi Jason, some Spanish and Italian porcelain tile manufacturers market their products as "zero deflection rectified tiles" if true, will be able to have them installed with zero grout joints? what are your thoughts? thank you.
kingg4life Thanks for viewing! I would have to inspect the tile and test it (lay it out) not saying it can't be true but I am very skeptical on claiming zero deflection on porcelain tile. Can you send me some manufactures or brands that are claiming this? Would love to get my hands on some to check out.
As far as choosing porcelain tiles, do dimensions matter? Is it okay to go with a narrow wood plank looking tile or is that more prone to chip or crack? Thanks
Preparation is KEY!!!! And realistic expectations... All people should be required to do a fair amount research so they can educate themselves before even thinking about hiring someone to do a tiling job. Just so that they will know for themselves what’s realistic and what’s not as far as expectations. Then they can come up with a list of their desires, but knowing full well the realities and coming to a level of acceptance that they might not get everything they want. Then and only then is it time to call and hire someone. LOL Don’t make your contractor or tiler crazy with impossible demands.
Packetattack We have used a leveling system before but that's like teaching old dogs new tricks... for some of the guys it just didnt work! We definitely always try to floor prep the best we can before installing the floor covering.
m. achnel there are different profiles you can choose. If you want a rectified edge (a sharp edge) look. I would go with the step down where the hard edge has very slight roll to it.
I about to tile my counter top with no grout lines... if i get a lip i get a lip i dont care. What could i use to seal the lines so water cant get thru?
Hi Jason, I am glad I came across your video. I am going to have tile put through out the house. Are you saying its best to get porcelain pressed tile? Also, If i do a walnut wood color tile do you recommend a black colored grout? Thanks!
Angelica Estie Yes porcelain, good for you I only have seen the wood tile made in porcelain! Wood tile needs to have a grout joint don’t let them tell you any different. Grout color will depend on the veining in the wood look, but yes I assume black would look the best. If you are using black make sure they used a premixed grout, black is the hardest grout to keep the color uniform.
Just had my kitchen done with rectified tile thinking it would be grout line free... Nope didn't happen... But it looks okay.. If already laid how can I fill the spaces between the lines?.. The for your video was very informative
As far as im aware. zero grout lines are not acceptable. is due because when it expands and contract trough out the years, due to weather. Tiles will fault but stop at grout lines. compare to having zero grout lines. A fault will effect big portions as it was one unit.
hello my friends, ithink porcelain tiles are the best choice for your floor.give space at least 1 mm for grout or filler coz if tile fixer didn't give space between tiles after some time tiles and dry bond(cement) chemical reaction make gases and those gasses coz tiles damage like cracks on tiles , unbalance from surface .think about it , your money never grows on trees.
Frustrating! Did not answer other questions about what size grout lines to use etc. I'm laying rectified porcelain 24" tiles in my home now. Guess I'll just move on down the line for more comprehensive discussion.
So... no issues with Stone? Yeah... I don’t think so. Also, what kind of stone? Travertine, sure it’s great! Marble... not so much. The average owner isn’t gonna do the required maintenance. This dude also talks bad about porcelain, because sales people lie? Then he proceeds to insist porcelain is junk? Lol! People gonna push what they like.
Wow, guy has no idea what he is on about. Who has 0 grout lines? You need grout lines for movement, expansion and waterproofing. Even natural tiles are out by a few mm. Tiles naturally have a curvature as they curve during the cooling process. The faster the cooling process the greater the curvature.

I'm having a house built and know almost nothing. This video was EXTREMELY valuable in helping me understand the differences.
Will McCormick Great to hear! If you have any other concerns or questions don’t hesitate!
Glad I saw you video now... I'm building a new house now and was thinking of rectified porcelain because I didn't want grout lines :D...

Travertine is my first choice ! Getting ready to go pick out flooring for my bathroom ! Any advice on taking care of this stone ?
I just bought rectified 12x24 porcelain tiles for living room /kitchen.... What do you recommend grout size? Sorry, I don’t know proper terminology.
little monkeys it should have a manufacture recommendation on the box, should! I would go no less than 1/16, personally, but pending how the quality is with the tile can make that size vary.

JP good video. I've used a thicker bed for surfaces that aren't very flat and a PLM leveling system.

So at the end after touting how good porcelain tile is..you say don’t get rectified edge porcelain tile.
What do you recommend then?

Sean Corbin did they already grout the lines? If not, just use a unsanded grout.
OK thx
thanks! what about unrectified tiles tho? like 600x600s
What about pressed porc?
jose deleon pressed porcelain is porcelain, pressed is the method in which porcelain tile is made. Simple answer great to use!
hi Jason my sweet brother...can you tell me I want to purchase tails which one is the best for mee
As far as im aware. zero grout lines are not acceptable. is due because when it expands and contract trough out the years, due to weather. Tiles will fault but stop at grout lines. compare to having zero grout lines. A fault will effect big portions as it was one unit.
Shit, i just bought 600 ft of rectified porcelain tile. I didn't give a crap about 0 grout line though.
How did it work out?
By the way David Copperfield cannot flattened tile either

Patrick PhippsPA what other questions are you talking about? 24" tiles should have a 1/8 grout joint minimum but we recommend 3/16"
The dude is angry. lol. But I guess I would be too, if I had annoying customers.
Yes, lol! People don't listen and then get upset and blame for their own ignorance!
I didn’t hear any anger whatsoever. He’s conveying key important information you don’t get easily... and I appreciate it
Tile is supposed to be cupped genius.

If the rigid tiles moved or expanded as your suggesting, your grout lines would all be cracked out... you are lost
