@TheChaz5504 the bico is really cool and the patina on them look awesome as well! I'm glad that Oris came up with that combo and hopefully you'll have one on your wrist soon!!
I have the new Oris Hodinkee 65.. I'd say the 38mm size is so preferable for me especially on their bracelets. I had a 36mm black face bronze bezel and it was quite small and the dramatic taper on the bracelet made it seem even smaller. The dome on the smaller watches definitely has more presence actually compared to the larger case sizes. What I love about the new one is not only the color but the true to nature vintage inspiration it has. For me, the painted indices fit the aesthetic very well, going for a bit more tonal contrast than one might seem, along with (my favorite "feature") the old vintage style bold-blocky Oris logo on the dial. Absolutely love it. As an owner of 3 divers 65 pieces, this one takes the cake for me for being the ultimate. Regarding the movement, it's actually better than my BB58. It's far more accurate, but not as pleasurable to wind. One of the costs also with this watch I think a lot of people overlook (and for good reason) is the double sapphire sandwich. There is sapphire on the caseback, and it's my first and only watch that has it, but I'm just not sure if the value is really there. Otherwise, never regretted this purchase!
Your reviews are great. Well thought out content, stunning footage and that common sense wisdom watch enthusiasts really appreciate. This channel is going places, and we have the privilege of seeing from the start. Cheers
Thank you so much i'm so happy to hear that youre enjoying the content! Your support means a lot to me and i appreciate you noticing the little details of the video bc while its fun filming the watch it still is a lot of work! Fingers crossed that more people feel the same as you do so we can keep growing this community! 😁
I agree with you on both points! Definitely is a watch that many people would love and I feel bad that not everyone can get the chance to enjoy this color combo. Fingers crossed for a close variation maybe!
Great review of a great watch! I like 19 mm lug width as I have a bunch of Yema Superman and a lot of strap options for them. There are lots of straps to get if you you look around. Avoid strap stores only selling 18, 20 and 22 instead :)
Yeah I've got a few 19mm leather straps for my Grand Seikos so 19mm is almost endearing for GS but for anything else it's tough to move away from my giant collection of 20mm straps! But thankfully I've started to appreciate bracelets over the past 1-2 years so no need to think of any straps then 😂
I like the new Oris Divers 65, particularly the font of the logo and the new movement. Hope they make more variants of the divers 65 in 38mm which would be amazing. Enjoying your vids and reviews!
Yeah the font is pretty awesome and the more 38mm variants they make the better! I can only hope they make some with a grey dial lol. Thank you so much for your support, it means a lot to me that youre enjoying the channel! lots more to come!
Great review. I am glad you gave the bracelet a lot of attention. I love bracelets with a steep taper. I feel that way about straps too, which is why I don’t like NATO straps. I don’t get why they are so popular. People hate on the Oris 65’s lume pretty consistently, but it doesn’t bother me. In fact, I don’t get why people regard lume as important at all. The only times I have ever looked at my watch and not been able to read it is while camping and waking up in the middle of the night. In that case, the time doesn’t really matter to me, and by the middle of the night all lume is dead anyway. The other thing about the 65 that people seem to dislike is the aluminum bezel. But I noticed that the new Tudor BB 58 GMT also has an aluminum bezel. So how bad can it be?
Great video, can I ask what you would do right now, if you had the choice now of the og Hodinkee (yours) the cal 400 Hodinkee or the standard new 40mm with the cal 400 which would you pick
I just purchased the 40mm Divers 65 with the blue dial. 40mm seems to look best for my 7.25 in wrist. I’m 5’11 200lbs, so when I’ve had 38mm watches, they just looked really small. I’ve been wanting the BB58. Will it look smaller than the Oris on me?
I have both, and find myself reaching for the manual wound original version far more than the new one. The honeymoon phase with the green one was one of the shortest I’ve had with any watch. I get that they’re going for the vintage feel on these watches, and I think they really did a good job making it feel vintage… but knowing it’s not vintage, leaves me wishing the watch was more substantial. It just feels dainty.
Thanks I'm glad you enjoyed the watch and video! Yeah $3800 (well now 5-7k 😑) is definitely a bit higher than what I'd want to pay even tho I love their new movement. The aquis with the new caliber 400 is $3500 and that's definitely where I'd spend my money😁
yeah hopefully the prices of the regular versions are a little bit lower to make things easier considering the aquis with the caliber 400 is 3500 as far as I remember. Yeah that 10 year warranty really is a big confidence booster!
Yeah Oris is definitely a special brand! I definitely want to add the Aquis at some point. The integrated bracelet is awesome but being a chronic strap changer it does scare me a bit😬
Loved the review man. Really enjoyed your take and love your taste on that colorway. 10 months on do you think you'd have bought it now? Or did you'? This watch seems to only have magnified in popularity. I love the Glow version. About to pop on that if I can snag one for around $1300.
I went for it. Yes, I know I overpaid haha. But I really, really like it. Oddly it's gotten the most compliments on the wrist of any watch I have, and I've only worn it a few times. Yes the 19mm lug width is lame! It looks and feels perfect on the bracelet though. I also agree about the Lume difference between the hands and the markers. Just weird that they didn't make them uniform. Tudor lume blows it out of the water. That said, I still like the lume, and the watch just feels "right" on my wrist. Sidenote- this is the watch I used Affirm for. I actually was seeing if I could get pre-approved then make a decision, but I guess pre-approval was just approval, because they said "congratulations" haha.
Oh nice congratulations!!! That's so exciting!!! How does the dial in real life compare to what is shown online? And loool so long as you didn't pay the 5-7k that the scalpers are asking you're all good lol. 3800 is a good price especially for that movement and then you're getting more value out of it bc you simply really wanted it! Me saying idk if I'd spend the money comes down to the watch not being perfect for my tastes bc if the same thing was sold in a full grey color way at the same price I'd have it on my wrist already with some watches lined up to be sold! 😂😂 And yeah thankfully the bracelet is great bc then there will hardly be a time you'd feel an overwhelming need to switch it out for a strap. And yeah I'm happy that the lume at least works unlike my beloved Ollech & Wajs P104 lol. Ah ok getting it through Affirm makes this watch even more worth it now given my mindset on Affirm! The watch is definitely easier to justify at X per month in addition to a month's worth of enjoyment vs 3800+taxes.
I have the new one. Great watch. I remember having a crush on the one you have but didn’t pull the trigger. I also haven’t noticed the cal400 having the jump that some experience with the Aquis…nice review @nicewatchmr if you want to ‘vet’ me.
Thats awesome to hear congrats on the watch! I hope oris releases more 38mm watches just like the new one bc i think it could end up high on my wishlist! Especially if they finally make a black dial/black bezel variant! also thats good to hear that your example of the new caliber doesnt have the setting issue bc i know that that would drive me insane. loooool Also youve got an amazing collection! its right up my alley for sure especially the yellow glashutte it looks great and i love the grey version as well. Additionally the benrus caught my eye bc i wanted to get one when it came out but the listing was taken off bc of the movement issue! What ended up happening with your watch?
loool rebuying watches is a funny thing but I totally get it bc i want to rebuy my seamaster 300 pro soon bc i miss it so much! But thats surprising to hear that you couldnt get a good fit on the bracelet even with all the adjustment options! Do you still have it?
A great review TWI, the diver 65 so far has not been on my radar although I did hear that more Oris watches were to be graced with the new in house cal 400 movement. Is the price increase worth it for the movement alone? I would tend to say yes if you intend to keep the watch, the 10 year service and warranty show Oris have faith in the movement. Yes it has a setting quirk that is easily sorted and is explained in the setting instructions but it runs for ages and is very accurate. I don't have the 65 but I do have the cal 400 Aquis 41.5 for a little while and I stand by my comments on the movement from experience. That 65 that you have looks great though and if I were in your shoes I would keep it, if you didn't have it and were considering a new 65 that would be a more difficult decision decision given the cost.
Thank you so much Anthony! Yeah im excited for this movement to find itself in more watches for sure bc its everything I would want in an in house movement with the 5 day power reserve and the awesome 10 year warranty. If my 65 had the new movement i really do think it would be close to being perfect for me but yeah no intention to ever sell mine bc its just too awesome and its a very special watch for me sentimentally. Thats so awesome to hear that you have the caliber 400 aquis! It is high on my wishlist although I do wish they had a fully brushed version. But their dials are just to good to pass on lol! the $3500 price tag for it is amazing value bc the overall quality of the aquis is just incredible and now its got an awesome movement to match it! Also what is the setting quirk that you mentioned?
@@thewatchidiot The setting quirk is when you adjust the time forwards and just push the crown back in the minute hand can jump away from the time that you've just set. To stop this move the minute hand past the correct time a few minutes than wind it back to the correct time and the hand will not jump when you push the crown back in. I tend to do this anyway when setting my watches to take up the slack in the gears anyway so that when the watch starts the seconds and minute hands will stay in alignment. Some movements the second hand will start but the minute hand will not move until the slack is taken up such that when after a minute the minute hand may not be aligned at an index when the second hand is at 60.
Ah ok yeah I can see how it would get irritating but I can also see how you could also get used to it quite quickly. I'll be on the lookout for that if I get one bc for me my minute hand has to be PERFECTLY lined up otherwise it bothers me and I have to redo the time setting 😂
@@thewatchidiot It really is an easy workaround, I have enough faith in it I now have the cal 400 green dial version as well as the blue cal 400. Hand alignment perfect on both when set correctly.
Oh nice that's awesome!! The aquis really is calling my name I love the new recycled plastic dial bc it looks unlike anything else but it's got the sellita movement in it. Great for me bc it's cheaper but still would have been cool to have the new caliber in it!
Nice beautiful watch, but don’t like rivets on the bracelets (dots on the side of the bracelet) if you like silver dive watches definitely consider seiko Prospex 1965 Re-Interpretation SPB145J1, beautiful watch on the same level as this Oris
Yeah the rivets are always going to be a controversial choice! But yeah I absolutely love the SPB143 it looks incredible and its definitely on my wish list. However as much I love it I just dont know it would get the wrist time that it would deserve which would make me feel bad given the price!
It's very beautiful, not my favourite 65. That would be a tie between the momotaro and honey. This definitely looks great though and I can see why you like it so much
Thank you so much! oooo the honey one is pretty awesome they made quite an incredible dial on that one! Definitely a watch I have to admire from afar bc as much as I like it I just know that it wouldnt get the wrist time that it deserves
Love the Diver 65. I think both Hodinkee limited editions are really classy variations. Too pricey for my budget though unfortunately. For me, I don’t think my favourite Diver 65 exists yet. I want black dial, 40mm diameter and although I’d be happy to forgo the date entirely if I have to have it I’d prefer it at 6 o’clock. Where I hit a snag is that I’m not into bronze bezels and I’m not a fan of gilt hands and indeces and all the black dial 40mm have both of those. So my options are either the original 2015 Diver 65 with the block painted on numerals at 12, 3, 6 and 9 with a black bezel and steel hands and indeces or the Movember limited edition from 2017 which has gilt hands and indeces but a steel bezel. It’ll either be one of those Diver 65s or I’ll just give up and go for an Aquis 🤣
You're absolutely spot on!!! I'm exactly the same as you I've always loved the Divers65 but I always found it bizarre that Oris didn't release a simple black dial version (without the blocky numbers). I'd have bought one a long while ago or maybe I would have added one even with my Hodinkee version! Let's hope Oris reads this thread and releases a 40mm black dial version! And if they have it with the new caliber 400 then at a relatively reasonable price then I think it would be time to sell some watches to make room😂
i actually liked the diver 65 x Hodinkee (v1). Manual wind is great but once I saw that it also had screw down crown.... that was a deal breaker and made no sense to me. 65 x Hodinkee (v2) - i liked it but it was $1000 too expensive (regardless of the new movement)

Momotaro.
Bico is a grail for me :)
@JAPD that's a cool one! I haven't seen one in person but I can only imagine it'll be more striking 😁
@TheChaz5504 the bico is really cool and the patina on them look awesome as well! I'm glad that Oris came up with that combo and hopefully you'll have one on your wrist soon!!

You’ve earned a sub. Even the auto version still wears ultra thin.
Gorgeous but the 36mm sizing is more for me. Looks amazing on your wrist!
36mm would look definitely be pretty awesome in this color way hopefully they make one soon and thank you so much!
I bet oris will reproduce the entire line of 65 with 400cal in time. I would not pay for hodinkee colab but 10 year warranty is appealing.
