DJI Action 5 Pro Review - Pros and Cons explained

- Last week I dove into the features of DJI's latest camera the Action 5 Pro and compared the footage with the latest offering from GoPro, the Hero 13.
I held back giving my opinions and wanted to know your thoughts...lots of people seemed keen on the Action 5 Pro but there were still people who preferred the Hero 13.
I'll be honest, the footage was very similar in good light, especially when made smaller but there's more to a camera than the video quality so I run through the the pros and cons of the Action 5 Pro and ask the question "is it a worthy upgrade from the Action 4?"

I personally like the 5 pro over the gopro
DJi are releasing a firmware update with a higher bitrate apparently. Have you tried the gopro labs firmware?
Current is (shockingly low)
60 mbps at 4K 30
80 mbps at 4K 60
100 mbps at 4K 120
I read that too. I think DJI lowered the bitrate to lower file size and have the 4 hour battery life as a strong marketing point, which is fair enough. Thankfully DJI are on it with the firmware update.
pro 5 isn't perfect camera
me; agree
i hated it in low light it still jittery
The 5 pro has more dynamic range than the OA4, a better sensor and is even better in lowlight conditions than the OA4. How did you find the OLED display on the 5 pro in sunlight compared to the OA4 and GoPro?
Love your reviews! You always are so truthfull and I really appreciate that! Keep it up!he truth
Nice Action 5 video
Not everyone uses it on bikes, in my case, on monopods and selfies.
After many Gopros ALL over heating here in Florida. Action 2, 4, and 5 not a problem no overheating.
magnetic mount one way works great when using with mono pod, selfie stick etc. because with the GP its easy to mount it backwards.
Love the lowlight
The tracking mode is perfect for filming mono pod video when doing something, making it seem like you have someone videoing you.
and OLED screen is perfect in Florida's sun
the case and screen protectors saved my camera many times.
I have the action 3 and upgraded to the action 5. So far I am very impressed.
The bluetooth audio issues you experienced... Bluetooth 5.1 has max range of 250m, too many nearby wifi connections will cause bluetooth interference, like all those nearby flats. Professionals prefer to use the Mic 2 with the 32 bit internal recording as well as the Bluetooth, which can be used to sync the better audio during editing.
I'd love to see a mini gimbal accessory for the action 5, like the charging handle (with controls) but with addition of a gimbal. Then detach for helmet mount etc. Best of both worlds.
12:07 Distortion is a no-go from me, so I need zero to almost no distortion, as I want to represent the trail as it is. At 12:29 the distortion is horrible. I wish they had no distortion lens, and and lens mod to add fish eye, or hot swappable lenses. I have Hero 7 the aftermarket lens, so no distortion, but slightly narrower view, but not enough to complain. But I can't record in the winter, as I need the newer batteries, so need newer camera.
15:55 To me if it's fast it looks fast, if it's slow it looks slow. But for me 24 fps vs 60fps is a massive difference, I can always tell if it's 24 or 60fps, and that the 24fps is missing frames, don't like it, doesn't look normal, but distortion is not desirable for me. Having wide enough view is possible without distortion, it will be narrower, but still usable. I rather have that.
I'm not buying either, but I'll still watch the video. Love your reviews, Ali.
Hi, son, I’m thinking of a headcam,, front and back, for security when I’m out on the road. Do you have a recommendation?
Thanks for the comparison.
Low light should not be a Con. The Action 5 Pro runs rings around the 4!
Nice i have dji OA5 pro too
3:54 That's lovely. I've experienced the issues with the beeps you said.
I glued in my magnetic adapter to reduce the rattle, and I haven't regretted it.
I can't help but be a little soured by the sponsored video aspect, but at least you disclosed it, which is more than one can say for a lot of tech media.
Also, the video format is neat, and your perspective is appreciated.
I’ll be honest with you, I wasn’t planning on doing a review video, I thought DJI gave me the choice of a comparison video OR a review…it was my mistake though as I mis-read what they required and they actually needed both.
I do feel weird reviewing a product I’ve been paid for but I did try to be totally honest so I hope folk can look past the sponsored aspect
@@Ali_Clarkson Sheesh, that's an unfortunate miscommunication. For some reason, action camera companies seem to be the worst bullies of the lot when it comes to reviews and sponsored content. Insta360 was recently caught asking people to hide the fact that their reviews/videos were sponsored.
Hi Ali, I've just got my 5pro having had 18 years of GoPro's and so far I love it. Do you have any idea how to get hold of additional magnetic mounts? Specifically the small one as I prefer the lower profile it gives. I've looked everywhere on the web but all seems it a 3rd party ones that look a bit suspect. I ordered an action 2 mount which is low profile but it doesn't have the rubber base support so it rattles a bit.
@@Jackofafewtrades to be fair to DJI it was 100% my fault for not understanding the information pack they sent. They’ve been quite understanding and were more than happy to give me more time etc and have never asked me to hide opinions or the fact they’re sponsored videos etc so please don’t be too harsh on them.
@@BazFairbrother I know what you mean about wanting low profile ones, I could’ve added that to one of my “cons”. I’m yet to see any low profile offerings but I do have a nice metal Smallrig mount which is nice plus some Telsin models that work as good as the DJI ones
A concern for many is Privacy concerns. Due to the country of origin, and the DJI apps were even not allowed in app stores, not google paly store nor apple app store.
Not true.
@@arlencarlson What's not true? in the past. So are they now?
