Have the same exact setup, only thing ( and this is very important to anyone planning to follow this setup) make sure that mount/adapter is aluminum or metal, I made the mistake to use a Gorpro adapter that was similar but it was plastic. Two 3rds into my race it broke and my X4 hit the road at 45kmh, lucky me only the screen cracked, everything still works perfectly and the included lens protectors did their job. So don't use old Gopro or any adapter that is not alloy/metal.

Great stuff! The torque on the mount from a heavy camera is a bit concerning. I'd love to see handlebar manufacturers provide an even more sturdy solution with larger bolt interfaces from mounts. Believe they're mostly designed for 150g computers, and that's not enough when you triple the load on a bumpy road.

  • @highlyspecific630

speaking from experience, it is better to mount the camera on a stick, either the selfie stick or the stick included in an insta 360 official bike mount (even though this results in having an antenna sticking off your bike). Mounting so tightly to the handlebars as illustrated in this video will transfer a lot of vibrations to the camera. I am using my second insta 360 1X3 now the first being damaged as a result of a similar mounting.

I wonder whether a 360camera and Garmin combo would sell. There's space in the frame for 18650 battery intégration. Now that bikes are electronic you could run a slim sturdy wire for power through the headset and stem. And then you'd have beautiful integration, and a 2 in 1 unit. Because as is, it looks dreadful. But a Garmin with a camera module in front could look pretty neat, if the battery is in the frame. Niche, but would be awesome. I'd often like to capture a bit of my riding, but if the camera doesn't live on my Garmin, I just won't bother.

A Insta360/Garmin Collab would be amazing! If you could take out your SD card from the camera and already have the Garmin data saved with the video, that would cut down on workload and increase the amount of people using overlays on their videos!
If you could also start recording from you Garmin unit and have data on the Garmin that the Insta360 is still recording/battery levels, that would be next level!

I've got a really good tip for you! I also have kind off the same setup. With a few key differences. Number one. Between the insta 360 and the mount I have a smallrig hawklock. A small and sturdy quick release system that's not to bulky. Have those things on pretty much all my mounts. So it just clicks on wherever.
Also have a 9 centimeter long GoPro extension thing in between so it can be completely out in front. And have a little upward tilt. Works absolutely perfectly.

@@alexbijvoet1 I bought a few of these based on this recommendation but I wasn't impressed, the camera goes on to the mount and a night tight fit but after just a few miles on the gravel bike it ends up loose. I think they are great on the selfie stick and chest mount but not mounted to the bike for me. Might be ok on the road bike or if you have the X4 mounted directly downloads to avoid extra forces on the mount but not aiming out straight with one lens up towards sky and one facing down. I've gone and bought some falcam f22 mounts to see if these can take the weight pointing straight.

@@trouty00 That's a bummer. I do use it with the lens towards the sky. And no problem with any vibration or it coming lose. Do have to admit. The screw on the bottom of the X4 is done up really tight with some Loctite.

For an even better angle, we need to align the camera parallel to the ground or even raise the lenses even higher so that they are level with the Garmin, so we will see more. A small extension of approximately 100mm is sufficient for this. But to prevent it from turning due to impacts, you need to mount the Garmin in such a way that the GoPro mount is not above the Garmin mount, but between it and the mount to the steering wheel. In this case, you can additionally fasten the extension cord to the Garmin mount with electrical tape and then it will never turn, because . will be fastened at 2 points. In this case, the distortion will be less and we will be able to see more of the view from above, more of you, your actions. And in your case, with the camera lowered, we see a lot of the steering tube and the front wheel, this is not interesting, and the aerodynamics suffer in this case. You can see on my channel what this angle looks like ruclips.net/video/NmYCPfjcL2o/видео.htmlsi=U-zJSNe2DmsjCmzK With great respect from Russia

The only issue is that the whole mounting structure and the camera is acting like a lever, constantly fatiguing the narrowest part of the Garmin mount, especially on road bikes cus there is no suspension system on the bike, so the vibration and damping will working on the lever all the time when you are out riding, eventually it will break the mount. Anything, ANYTHING with that regular photo tripod thread, really.
In his case, he uses an adapter (step-up) to go from the small regular photo thread to the bigger one (there are only those two standards here, don't worry).
Also, I'd go with a quick-out plate. One attaches to the camera permanently, and the other part to the bike-mount permanently. So, never rattling, and also never turning that screw ever again, just click in, click out.

Apparently youtube eats my comments if I try to post a picture showing my mounting solution, but here's the gist:
So, I use an alternative mounting solution that attaches the x4 to an integrated dual mount, putting the gopro fingers directly under the handlebar. Then I use insta360's bike mount carbon pole (6" long or so) attached to a gopro-to-1/4" tripod adapter to give it some extension. I also swapped out the bolt in the configuration to a torx bolt (M5-0.8 x 16mm) so that I can ratchet down the torque to 8 nm using a torque wrench before each ride. That way I can be reasonably sure it doesn't loosen up too much over time. Lastly, I added a small gasket (like a rubber band) that loops around the carbon pole and the upper garmin mount to provide some additional stability should the screw somehow work its way loose.

I thought the same thing and never purchased a 360 camera for that reason. Then I purchased the X4 and learned that with such a high resolution, you can reframe to whatever degree or angle that you like. I shoot in "DEWARP" so my video is not that wide to begin with. Then during my reframing, I use zoom if I need to, and to be honest, I find that when I reframe to the same angle that my gopro and ace pro shoots, after I edit it in premiere, there is very little difference in image quality. Because the quality is not so different, the trade off; is that I capture shots that makes my ace pro and my gopro look like they are antiquated cameras!
