Found Why My Mk1 VW Cabriolet Wouldn't Idle Correctly

  • My 1988 VW Cabriolet is not idling properly. As I systematically troubleshoot the vehicle I found a loose ground (or earth) connection. While troubleshooting a Bosch CIS fuel-injected vehicle, it is critical to first address any vacuum leaks or loose grounds!

    this called the fifth injector it sprays fuel directly in the manifold
    (bypassing the fuel head regulator ) so the engine starts correctly and smoothly it's controlled by a thermo switch located on the water coolant flange that goes from engine to the radiator (upper thick hose )
    it only works for 1second then off
    depending on coolant temp .
    been long time since I used the kjetronic fuel system and it's amazing performance ,engine noises where awsome in addition to unsuspected faults making every gti owner scratch Thier heads trying to solve those faults .

    After looking at mine again I am pretty sure the white solenoid boosts the idle when the AC is on and the black one is for normal idle boost when RPM drops below 750. I was wrong in my earlier comment. I retested mine and the black valve is dead, the white works if I connect a 9v battery to it... but the AC doesn't.

    Mine has the same problemis a 90 model,but has a relenti valve I think in the place of these 2 , after checking the relenti valve cable has no signals i checked the cable to computer and is alright! Any ideas?

    Well I guess if you would’ve found that first we wouldn’t have had all these helpful videos! Lol.!Nice job finding the problem👍

      I would have done them anyway. I'm systematically going through everything on the cabriolet.

      @@ShinyFastLoud Your videos have been very helpful for me. I have been chasing a rough cold idle for some time and I think I finally got it. But man if they could all be fixed as easy as a bad ground we would all be in business.No computers to tell us whats ailing our mk1s just good ol fashioned process of elimination👍

    I have a similar cold idle issue and after taking apart those idle boost valves and testing with a 9v battery I found the white solenoid was dead, but the black one works. Those are not easy to find, not for cheap anyway.

      Check everything else, start with eliminating vaccum leaks, then set timing and air fuel mixture.

    Excúseme for asking this within this video, since trying to fix the idle.
    But I found that my car is leaking gas under the car closed to the gas pump and I found this set screw that for a long time has been there now is loose
    And I just want an advice . I should buy a new filter , but why there is a set screw in there or purpose. ?how can I sent you a picture for your advise.

      I have a couple other videos on how to set the Air/Fuel Mixture and to test the fuel pressure.

  • @urqua495
    @urqua495 Год назад +1

    And i suggest to use brake cleaner for the testing vacuum leaks. Not carb cleaner.

    • @ShinyFastLoud
      @ShinyFastLoud  Год назад

      Brake cleaner works but can cause other problems since it typically isn't safe with neoprene, vinyl, rubber, seals, and gaskets.

    Is that a carburetor or fuel injection jive?
