    Im surprised Cypress Expressway in Oakland, CA didn't make the list. Its collapse was triggered by the 1989 Earthquake but the structure had serious design flaws. Killed 42 people

    The financial cost is always a bull-shark excuse because it shouldn't cost much at all to rebuild the structure.

    They could have just found 10,000 people to hold the Tacoma Narrows Bridge to prevent it from collapsing

    Fern Hollow Bridge in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Jan 28, 2022. My mom & I just drove across that bridge the day before. Luckily, it collapsed during the early morning hours, like 4-5am. So only 1 bus & a few ppl were affected. None killed.

    When I die, I hope that the story of my existence isn't spraypainted numbers on a windshield or the side of a house. After the Haysville/south Wichita tornado when I delivered mail, the symbols used for denoting cleared structures, and an accounting of all residents living, injured, and dead, I have a strong reaction to seeing it. I was there the day after, had to bring half the route back because it was gone, and hold others because the spray paint sigil on the siding indicated they were deceased and not coming back for it. That was a rough few weeks covering that route.

    We engineers work with the materials of the day. It is commonplace when designing and put in safety features companies want it cheaper and faster. JIT is a BS term used by Japanese that you only fix things when they break. Regular maintenance is always delayed for or pushed back beyond limits for profit. In every case here I see an engineer arguing the importance of having these measures in place. I know I was who called out these acts of selfish and dangerous acts.

    Why don't they put sprinkler systems in tunnels? And i would think that many vehicles pushing simultaneously outward at each end would unclog them. Everyone just put their vehicles in reverse at the same time! Why wouldn't that work?

    • @aliquotidian
      @aliquotidian 17 часов назад

      Consider: traffic up to the tunnel would also need to reverse. How far back do you imagine people spontaneously and simultaneously reversing? Do you drive? You would realise reversing is more difficult than forward motion, even without the stress of escaping a fire. Regarding smoke being cleared from the tunnel, that was pretty much what the design relied on. It had been adequate until this incident. All previous fires had been extinguished by the drivers, so sprinklers hadn't seemed necessay. A situation like this fire was not conceived of. I can't remember if this very short and sketchy item mentioned that the fire refuges provided were effectively ovens because a fire of this intensity was never conceived of, either.

    • @DecrepitBiden
      @DecrepitBiden 6 часов назад

      You can't even get 1 stupid car (most likely a woman) to reverse, yet you expect hundreds of cars to do it? HAHAHAHA. That's like asking OJ Simpson if he killed Nicole Brown & her friends, or Boeing if they suicided their 2 ex-employees, or Killary if she killed the 4-5 former aides who were about to testify against her.
      Seen it with my own eyes. We were on I-24 Eastbound, about several miles to I-75 intersection. Traffic had come to a stand still. A fire truck needed to come thru, so the firefighters were walking ahead & telling drivers to move. I had seen the fire truck approaching my rear for the past 20 minutes. The lady behind me, in her 50's-60's, just sit there with her eyes straight ahead. I motion to her several times. No response. Finally, the firefighter walked up to her window, tap on her glass, then she finally notice.

    I don't like the metric only standards. America still uses feet and miles because they have to. That country was built using those standards, not meters anc kilometers. Couldn't they give both metric AND imperial units? I'm exiting the video.

      From what I read, only around 2-5% of the world don't use the metrix system. It probably only would take more time and money for the ones that made this video 🤷‍♂

    • @Arthur-Woolley
      @Arthur-Woolley 5 часов назад +1

      America doesn’t have to keep using feet and miles. Most of the world used to use the imperial system and switched to metric because its far simpler. Americans are just too stubborn to change.
      I’m from England we use both metric and imperial for many things and we just learn how to convert between.
