  • Two permeability models are described for fluid flow through porous media: the Kozeny-Carman approach and the permeability as derived by Happel and Brenner. The latter is obtained by a solution to Navier-Stokes flow equations, and is a completely theoretical equation for permeability, without any adjustable parameters - apart from inputs of solid concentration and particle size. The Kozeny-Carman approach to permeability does have an additional parameter, the Kozeny constant, which should be empirically determined. Both of these permeability models can be used in Darcy's Law, for the prediction of pressure drop due to fluid flow in porous media. The video does not show the derivation of these equations, but does discuss key aspects of the equations and how they can be used.
