Thank you, David! Interesting pen. I’m intrigued.
The lock screen wallpaper is A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte by Georges Seurat! I first saw it in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off when Cameron had his epiphany while gazing into that child’s pointillist eyes.
Painting: A Sunday on La Grande Jatte
Recognized it immediately from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
Lovely pen.
George Seurat "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of LA Grande Jatte"
I have a GvFC Classic and I really like it for the most part. It looks great, the balance and heft is very nice (unposted), and the (fine) nib is smooth and writes wonderfully. My only complaint is the metal section, which tends to slip in my fingers after I've been writing for a while. It sounds like the Tamitio has a similar problem.
Instantly knew it was Seurat's Sunday Afternoon on the lsland of La Grande Jatte and that took me back to the wonderful Sondheim play - which I saw on PBS with Mandy Patinkin & Bernadette Peters (called Sunday in the Park with George). Your admiration of this painting shows us another side to you! Thanks for sharing! Fun to see people's cellphone wallpaper. Oh and I love the pen! Always love to see what you compare the featured pen with.
Hello Mr. Parker,
You and doodlebud are my two most trusted fountain pen reviewers and trusted advice.
That said I’ve purchased many new brands. I prefer to buy cheap pens from new companies and if the cheap pens are decent then I’ll splurge for a more expensive pen. I’m quickly finding that all faber castell pens are excellent quality and love the E-motion.
I’d like to see the new diplomat nexus review.
Thanks for watching!
Good luck people.
Hi sir
Your videos are really good
But recently the sound is a bit low.
May be some issues I guess.
This is not a complaint but just a suggestion sir. I have seen your old videos and the sound in those vidoes are really good.
Anyways, just my opinion and no hard feelings.
You are doing really good job.
Keep it up 👍
Thank you 🙏
I noticed the lower volume on this video too.
This “Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte”, by Georges Seurat. I have this as my wallpaper on my laptop.
Hello figboot,
I have a query about the giveaway
Is it international or just for USA?
International
I have a "boxing glove" grip so unless the nib is large (No 6) and the section is less than 2cm I hold the barrel of the pen.
Love the Seurat on your phone. (One of my favorite paintings/painters as well.) (ETA: And the inspiration for one of my all-time favorite musicals.)
Hi, David! Liked the Seurat, like the Tamitio review . . . maybe don't think it is a way better pen than my FC Ambition, which wasn't all that much better than my HongDian 1843 Navigator, available at way less, which last year I gifted to a person I hope will take up our hobby. I am certain that the Count makes pens way better than pens I think I can afford, but, really. Come on, Graf!
Hi. Please do a review of that E-motion Faber castell. I bought one. It's very nice, but the pen doesn't really post. The cap is so heavy that it keeps falling off. Does yours cap?
Thank you for your recommendation for Smruti Pens! I've been lurking on their website planning to buy, and they were at our nearest pen show this weekend and were absolutely delightful! My spouse and I picked up several notebooks and an exclusive ink, and talked with them for a bit, and it was lovely.
I got the Tamitio in total black and I absolutely love it!
I've been eyeing on GvFC pens for a while now and finally pulled the trigger on this one. The build quality is amazing and the nib feels so smooth, even though it's a steel one. I can't wait to get one of their gold nibs!
if only the section and end finial was a bit longer or the main body color shorter, it would be on my list
The design of the slim, short, slippery grip section is unfortunate. Are there any GvFC pens that are thicker with better grips?
The painting on your phone looks to be a cropping of a Monet. The child on your phone looks to be the same child he painted in "Woman with a Parasol" 1875.
A great pen by the way. But I don't know how reliable is the nib. It's not golden nib anyway.
I prefer the Faber Castell "Ambition" over this Graf von Faber Castell "Tamitio". It is not only much cheaper (45-70 EUR/USD) but also do I like the straight cap of the Ambition much more than the cap of the Tamitio (I always call this cap shape "Grafenhut" which translates to "the count's hat"). Maybe the nib of the Ambition does not look so nice as the Tamitio nib but it is a very good writing steel nib (as all Faber Castell and Graf von Faber Castell nibs). And you have sooo many variations of the body with the Ambition (I like the Op Art series). Thanks for another great video, David and many greetings from hot and sweaty Germany.
I picked up one of these in stone gray earlier this year. The price is all over the place for these like you said. I got lucky and found mine for 127€. It’s an EF and it’s one of my smoother steel nibs. Only problem is it can feel a bit heavy, and I have to use it posted. I don’t usually post my pens. Nice review.
David! This is most excellent video and you are a gift that keeps on giving. I will write to you shortly, though i have no interest in the giveaway. Im sure someone else does.
What is most interesting about this painting i think is its connection to the city of Chicago and its appearance in Ferris Buellers Day Off.
And now all i have left is Sunny Afternoon by the Kinks stuck in my head
Go well by all means necessary
It confuses my Mexican heart to hear a word that sounds like *tomatillo* …and for there to not be a *green* color option.😂❤
Ouch!: that section is a deal breaker - a slippery grip is an absolute no, but GvFC nibs do write on the finer side which definitely suits me:); thanks for this:)
A great review as usual. I enjoy all the little bonuses you throw in, such as fine art and ink comparisons. I like the look of the Roman Centurion Red. Another great red ink that I learned about from your videos is Franklin Christoph Urushi Red.
I believe the idea with this design was to grip the pen further back on the matte textured portion, but I also feel like that's going to be too far from the nib for many users. It is a little odd design, but I definitely like the aesthetic of the remainder of the pen.
i agree on all counts. I also think that the mini section is a feature across most (regular) GVFC models --i am even starting to think of it as a brand signature of sorts. This is odd, for it clearly undermines function; and yet a house that certainly knows what they are doing is committed to it.
I had the pleasure of meeting Baron Faber-Castell years ago at a oen show in NYC. Very gracious and committed to making excellent pens. That being said i do not own a Graf von Faber-Castell fountain pen, being one that has bought their "budget" line of pens. It would be a pleasure to use this pen, even with the short, slippery section.
Great review, David
Nice review. I usually don’t see GvFC reviewed or discussed often on social medial.
I'm a fan of Graf von Faber-Castell pens, including the Tamitio. While I generally prefer fatter pens - as do you - I have no problem with the slenderer Graf pens...reason: Graf nibs are excellent! Because of the quality of their nibs, I don't have to use the same grip pressure I might with other pens. The Graf Classic series has a longer section...it's the Tamitio section that's smaller. It's a matter of individual preference, but with the Tamitio, I just grip back a bit on the fluted barrel. And as you mentioned, I like the feel of the fluted barrel. I have six Grafs, only one of which is a Tamitio, but fit, finish and most importantly, the nibs on all of them are perfect. That's quality you can see and feel.
I tried a Tamitio in EF once. It wrote really good and I liked the shape. It's maybe a little bit slim but otherwise awesome.
Dear Figboot,
Thank you for yet another excellent review (i fear i am starting to get their quality for granted). And thank you even more the BRILLIANT TASK you set for us!!
I expect to win nothing, but i will definitely be writing!
Ahh. I wish I could write to you haha. I'm actually in a study abroad at the moment and turnaround for mail to the US back home is at least a month. Oh well. But best of luck to the new owner of the pen!
Love my Faber Castell but not sure if the premium on the graf von is worth the refinements.
Уважаемые коллеги. В чем разница между названиями Фабер Кастель и Граф фон Фабер Кастель.
Граф фон Фабер Кастель был человеком, а Фабер Кастель - это название компании.
Do you find that the GvFC nib performs differently from the nib on the Loom? Or maybe only the stamping is different? Thanks.
I have come to really like the pen, though the section design is something you have to adjust to. And I love the look of the pen ("Night Blue"). That said, this pen, at least the one I have, will dry out quickly. If I do not use it almost every day, it could easily have dried... and dried enough where it is genuinely hard to get it writing again. I no longer take it with me into the world as I just can't depend on it. Still like the pen! But the issues can be real...
GvFC is under rated for a German pen.
I have never been clear that you are supposed to hold these Graf von Faber pens by that little bit of metal on the front (they do that on other models well). It really is totally impractical as a section. Fortunately, I tend to hold my pens further back so I hold these comfortably on the barrel.
How is $195.00 (the lowest price I found for the fountain pen model) reasonable for a skinny, mass-produced metal tube with a steel nib?!? GvFC is delusional.
I have a letter written and will send tomorrow. Not sure it will get there in time. Can you give me your email address so I can send it via that way? (I expect to win nothing but love your challenge)
The email address is in the notes below each video.
