    A pen that seems elegance for me is the Faber Castell Ondoro in the Smoked Oak version. The barrel is from a beautiful wood with veins of changing browns. I think the contrast between features of this design is what makes this elegant: the raw-like wood against the sleek polished metal, the sharp hexagonal shape against the very-round ends and grip section. This pen is beautiful, the steel nib is perfect and as you mat infer- I like the brand a lot :P

    To me, Elegance is proper attention to the proper details. It's never excessive. Quite vague but I guess the subjectivity of the thought is what allows different people to appreciate the subjective beauty in pens and even in people.
    Love how the Guilloche has distinct elegant features and designs to accompany the experience of fine writing.

    The pen is quite nice, extremely classy, and well designed. The attention to detail is spot on. I hope Graf von Faber Castel make a rose gold plated with black resin version of this pen. It would really pop alongside other pens with similar designs.

    An elegant pen means it has a striking appearance upon first glance, a shimmering profile and writes as smooth as butter. I personally don’t own any but Visconti does well at providing pens with this description. Love the ink color. Reminds me of days on the beach.

    There's something about the Lamy CP1 that really stands out to me, with its minuscule step, outstanding overall thinness and matte, barstock look when capped. Despite how compact it is, it really feels like Lamy sacrificed nothing and wound up with an extremely handsome little pen.

    I have used Faber Castell products professionally for 50 years. I have never been disappointed. they are best of kind. their slide rules were unrivaled, their tech pens were unrivaled, their drafting pencils and lead are with out peer. they are expensive and unless used daily for years as they were intended, their value will not be appreciated.

    Your reviews are always lovely. Succinct, yet thorough. What constitutes an elegant pen will vary from person to person and I don't think there's a right answer. But for me, it's a body that is a dark color, not too terribly wide or narrow, a simple filling mechanism, and a nib with some decorative flourish-ey embossing but not a smiley face (and I DO love my Kakunos but they aren't what I'd call elegant).

    David, I was happy to see that you did a review on the GVFCG . The color is very eye catching and I was fascinated by your explanation of how they produce the barrel of the pen. You see, this is what defines elegance in a FP for me...the deliberate techniques in the artistry of the design. I mostly lean towards Japanese pens, but I am a fan of the GvFBG and feel a thrill when it comes in the rotation.

    Many thanks for this nice review. A very nice pen in the video but it I guess it is even better in the hands of the owner ;-). I do not own a Faber-Castell pen yet ;-) but I'm a huge fan of them. I'd love to try out this Guilloche with the 18K nib. Do they tend to write a bit "thicker" like the Parker's, e.g. Fine towards Medium and Medium towards Broad?

  • @iambic1496
    @iambic1496 6 лет назад

    I have seen displays of the ‘Graf’ pen before and was impressed by the tubular modern design. But when you mentioned the word ‘Guilloche,’ I was intrigued. I researched it. What I saw made a lasting impression. The Guilloche pattern on the ‘Graf’ pen revealed an exqusite understated repeating motif that had its roots in France during the 17th century, even earlier. The ‘Graf von Faber Castell Guilloche’ is an exquisite pen with elements of minimalism especially the cap, and the barrel displays a traditional design motif that blends well with the overall modern look. Incorporating a traditional motif but giving it a modern overall look is an achievement accomplished with great skill, I think. Kudos to Graf von Faber. Your writing sample depicts a writer that is crisp with a smooth flow of ink.

  • @MarkSunshine
    @MarkSunshine 6 лет назад

    That certainly was a generous nib ( regarding the ink flow ), you could see it stream into the line as you wrote. Perhaps with a different ink color the reverse writing might be more noticeable I thought? I would love to send you something for consideration, to be placed if so honored, in the back drop. I have to locate again your PO Box. Always a pleasure to view. What is that reflection in your left glass lens? Small monitor?

    What a very classy pen this is, David. I am really glad you liked Graf von Faber Castell. Is this your first pen from the Graf line? You might be interested to hear that the German word "Graf" translates into English as "count". So "Graf von Faber Castell" means "Count of Faber Castell". :)
    At 5:14, it was interesting to hear you like the blue colour and it was good to see you colour coordinated your shirt for the review with the pen. :) Was that intentional or a coincidence?
    I really think Graf von Faber Castell makes some of the most elegant, classy and beautiful pens on the market today. They're a wonderful choice, in my view, if you would like a luxury, classy, well-made pen but don't want the status symbol that inevitably comes with Montblanc or the more extravagant designs of Visconti. They're one of my all time favourite brands and I am glad to see you liked the pen so much.

    Very nice review of a gorgeous pen! I am a bit weary of clunky cigar/torpedo shaped pens. My favorites are usually the more slender looking pens, Waterman's come to mind. I didn't like it at the start, but I think seeing the close up shots really helped.
    As far as elegance, I think simplicity as well as craftsmanship are required. You need to see a pen from a distance and maybe it doesn't spark something instantaneously, but you see it close up and now you are aware of all the quality that went into the pen. The Lamy 2000 for example is a very unassuming pen (although you can spot their design pretty easy) but I don't think you can really appreciate it until you get close up. I'd file old Parker 51s in the same group.

    I think an elegant pen is one that you can take into a boardroom meeting and won't be noticed at first glance but eventually someone asks what that pen is. It's something that appears simple at first glance but actually has more interesting details the more closely you examine it. My Nakaya Neo Standard in Midori Tamenuri is one such pen. The the green accents are fairly subtle and I love the proportions of the body itself.
