Was listening to a podcast and they were talking about the vewing figures right across youtube are down. And the main reason for it is because of the amount of adverts we are forced to watch everytime we watch a video. Gone from a quick 15 second ad to 3 minutes worth during a half hour video. People are pissed off with it and aren't viewing the same amount.

Hi Dan, we recently sold our touring caravan for a number of reasons, but predominantly because of what I call static costs, the cost of ownership before you have even moved the thing. 1) Servicing - the cost of servicing has been creeping up over the years (I live near you so you know the dealer), you need to have the service stamp to maintain the water ingress warranty etc. 2) Insurance- in my opinion this really is money for old rope, never had a claim but the costs kept rising and rising. It cost me more to insure my touring caravan (parked on the drive) than my Campervan (I assume storage costs have risen too).
The Caravan industry is a mess, it is run by the dealerships, a classic case of the tail wagging the dog. The quality (fit and finish) of new touring caravans is extremely poor and the cost is high.
The cost of a pitch is high, especially Club Sites. The C&MC are just cashing in, their price structure is a con. The “Club” is not run for members but as a profit driven greedy company. Anyway rant over 😂

Well said, I think we're going to see a massive collapse within the leisure industry. Caravaning used to be a cheap holiday, I used to go away once or twice or month but prices have gone up so much now that its so prohibitive. Such a shame.

I agree they are out pricing themselves. You used to be able to pay for your pitch which included electrics which was good. Now you pay per person then you have to pay on top for awning then if you take dogs it's per dog. It's getting ridiculous. 😕

I must admit. The tips and tricks and projects brought me here.
I don’t watch many holiday vlogs, maybe a couple each month.
I just fitted a home made fan kit to my Series 10 fridge using your inspiration. Our first trip with it this weekend, it tested well with the frezer dropping to -20.
I’m looking forward to the GSM/4G battery level monitor.

Hi Dan. I originally subscribed as a brand new caravan owner. Your videos were an absolute god send and helped me enormously. As I got more confident towing and mastered setting up, your videos became project guides or reminders, helped me look at new accessories etc. However, and this is me being honest, I haven't watched one of your videos all the way through for quite some time (except for an old one I may refer back to) and my reasons are this...
    (A) The products you were promoting were either out of my budget or not really useful to me (you can't please everyone)
    (B) As you mention, the holiday vids were not my cup of tea (for the record I wouldn't watch anyone's holiday videos!)
I think your holiday should be when you down tools and relax, not worry about putting out content.
I hope you can see I'm being honest and not at all slighting the channel. It has, and always will be, extremely useful to lots of people just like me.
A comparison I would make is this... I was watching a guy repair/clean battered cars and gradually his range of car got more and more new and for me, less interesting. I wish he had just stuck to the formula that worked.
Wishing you all the very best.
    A long time subscriber.

Hi Dan & Angela, you mention the viewing figures being low, this has been mentioned previously by other RUclipsrs, RUclips had not been sending out notification and in some cases, unsubscribed subscribers without them knowing, it’s all about money, the less views etc, the less they have to pay you, it’s certainly worth looking into this as the majority of people do want to see your trips. We certainly do, maybe put out a poll as you will then see how many people are receiving notifications etc etc?

    • @Gazzab6
      @Gazzab6 5 месяцев назад +1

That’s interesting you should say that. I have just checked and I have been unsubscribed without my knowledge from this channel. This is now the third channel it has happened to and I noticed it also removed my ‘Likes’ from videos I have watched. If You Tube admin have purposely done this, I will definitely not be falling for their bombardment of offers to go Premium.

That makes no sense. The less views, the less that RUclips makes in advertisement revenue. More likely this category of video isn't trending as much as it used too, or maybe there's just a lot more caravan and van life channels out there nowadays.

Funny you should say that Mike as I had subscribed and wasn’t getting anything at all from the Trudgians. I love to join them on holiday too as people reviewing campsites tend to mention whether the toilets are clean and the wardens friendly. This comment lead me to check other channels I follow and guess what.. more unsubscribed channels and the realisation that I haven't been getting notifications from many for a long while now.
I would also join in saying the amount of adverts is stopping me from watching so much, even though I pay £20 p/m youtube subscription.
Dan, you and Angela have been a great help and inspiration to me as I got into caravanning, really helpful advice on all areas.

Hi, Dan, so sorry to see the disappointment in your demeanour in this one. As someone who has been caravanning for longer than you have by far, I can say I still enjoy all your videos immensely.
I'm pretty sure that the falling viewing numbers are not just related to the holiday videos but reflect a much more general malaise afflicting the industry at the moment. It's easy to blame the pandemic for a lot of those issues but in my opinion that is a red herring. The industry has never been truly customer focused and the pandemic merely had the effect of further reducing service levels whilst an easy opportunity to increase margins was grabbed with both hands. This holds for all parts of the industry from manufacturers through the clubs and associations, site owners and the dealers (who, I guess, had little choice but to follow suit).
The whole debacle has been so baldly managed we now have a huge oversupply problem as customers leave in droves. It's easy to get a new customers when the pickings are easy but it should have been patently obvious that to keep them long term you needed to make sure they were happy customers long term!

Hi Dan, I have to fully agree with you, it seems than every vlogger is doing site reviews. Personally I find them a bit boring (obviously that's my opinion) a lot of vloggers also spend a 3rd of the vlog showing them driving, mile after mile, again just not my thing.
What I have most enjoyed on your channel is when you are demonstrating practical items such as changing the reading lights to one's with USB ports and many other easy DIY projects that have saved me and no doubt many others several £££. As said others may disagree but that's my honest opinion. Dan what ever happens stay safe and best wishes to you all.

Hi Dan & Angela, I don’t think it’s just holiday videos which is the problem, I think there’s something else going of just what I can’t put my finger on at this time. We’ve just come back from 2 weeks on a CAMC club site in Yorkshire and I’ve never seen that site with so few caravan s or motorhomes on it and it’s a site we’ve used for over 25yrs, just as an example in March of 2018 when the so called beast from the east hit there were more units onsite and I even had people asking me if it’s always so quiet. On one occasion a couple approached asking if I felt there was something missing as the usual friendliness had disappeared where you could almost knock someone over and still not get a smile, good morning/afternoon from them, as of yesterday I’ve been doing this for 52yrs passing my driving test on my 17th birthday and getting caravan within 45minutes and I’ve never been without one and will continue until I drop. Thank you for your output we’ve found them both useful and interesting. Good luck to you all.

We stopped caravanning a while ago for three reasons; poor manufacturing standards of modern caravans and the lack of manufacturers honouring blatant warranty issues. Fuel prices and the ridiculous hike in pitch fees. And finally, the roads; the amount of damage caused to our van by poor road surfaces was getting a bit much until finally our microwave oven was knocked out of its mountings smashing itself and other items in the van. (Thirty years vanning).

Found the channel when me and my family were thinking about a touring caravan, after a lot of crunching the numbers I really don't see how having a big family caravan makes sense, bug tow car, 25mpg max at £1.50 a litre for diesel, 20k upwards for the caravan, and then coupled to some quite frankly outrageous prices for a pitch.
For us and I suspect many others a cottage both in the UK or abroad or hotels give both way better value and far less hassle in respect to breakages with either the caravan or tow vehicle, and also depreciation factoring into the overall cost of the holidays.
It's an idea we liked the sound of but simply way too much money for what it is.

Hi Dan, long term follower and I have said to you before that you guys helped us on our journey into caravanning. Your Buxton video was the one that did it…and we did a similar visit, years ago. Trust your gut, you always have…good to reflect, but also be honest to what you want to do. Best wishes to you all

I know you have to do what you’ve got too but I’d like to share this with you Dan, your vlog on the brecons got me to go to the CAMC site, and while there look for waterfalls!
Not only this but your videos on diy in a caravan-DAB radio install, WiFi, solar, to name a few have inspired me to ‘give it a go’. Yours is my go to channel Dan and I thank you for it.

Hi Dan, just want to say I totally respect your decision, but would also like to let you know how amazing your content has been for my family over the years. We only started touring in 2020, but because of your videos, both tips and holiday videos, I feel I am now a pretty competent caravan owner, obviously everyday is a school day and I know the learning will never stop, but thanks to you, I am confident, so thanks. Also, we have just returned from France, and during that trip we secured our outdoor awning lights with the little black crocodile clips you used and showed us on one of your recent holiday videos, and my wife even said out loud, ‘Thanks Dan, Legend’ so please know that whilst I understand your reasons, the quality of your content is invaluable and helps lots of people in ways you probably don’t realise 👍🏻👍🏻
    Thank you.

Hi Dan: First you mentioned a caravan company going into administration. I bought my caravan from Robinsons, now in administration. I was quite lucky that I had my caravan but was waiting for some work to be undertaken through Bailey. Talking about holiday vlogs, I tend to search for a site and then watch a vlog before I book. Your vlogs on 'How To Do' are invaluable. Watch them religiously. The problem is that there are so many vloggers out there vlogging about their holidays that they are the same old, same old. Hope this helps.

I'll be honest that I've not been shown any of your recent videos on my RUclips feed - it's likely because the algorithm thinks I want other content, but if this is the case for other people, this may be a reason for a decline in viewership?

Hi Dan, firstly thank you for all the time and effort you put in to releasing content. I took the plunge a bought a caravan about 5 years ago because both the wife and i are getting too old to be messing about with tents! I found your content a great help when first starting out and so much of your content put me on the right track and saved embarrassing fails at campsites. Personally, i am not overly interested in what you did on your holiday and i agree with some of the other comments that it is your holiday and you should be relaxing. What i do find interesting though is a review of the site you are staying at and the costs for that site. I also subscribe to caravantastic, mainly because Dave and Helen are local to my area, but they do a lot of site reviews and whats on in the area. Yes this is still holiday based content, but just sold in a slightly different way and based more on what is available rather than "What we did on Holiday". Hopefully you will still continue to post other content, keep up the good work, and at the end of the day it's the viewers choice, if they don't like it, they don't have to watch it.
p.s. yes the adverts are getting a real pain, i used to pay a monthly fee to avoid the adverts but with the cost of everything else i now have to trawl through the adverts which does become really annoying.

Hi Dan, we’ve had a caravan since 2011, and a motorhome (which wasn’t really our thing) before that. When I first came across your channel I still found many of your basic “how to” videos useful, even though we weren’t beginners by then. I always recommend watching your videos to newcomers to the caravanning world that need advice on how things work and how to set up. My favourite things to see are your holiday videos. Tours of the sites and some of the places you visit give me inspiration for places I might like to go to. There was a gap when you didn’t post holiday videos for a while and it took me a while to get back to looking at them when you resumed posting. I’ll be sad to see them go.
I also liked the caravan reviews you did, basically I’m nosy and like to see inside the new vans, however the items on fitting wifi, power banks, solar panels and other tech based things didn’t interest me, therefore I didn’t watch. I hope you’ll reconsider your decision at some point in the future. I hope this helps you to see what your subscribers want to watch.

Dan, if it’s any consolation I have been a follower of you for a long time, I have also been a Caravanner for just coming up to 50 years, in fact the caravan club have just told me I will not be paying any subscription from the end of this year. I would say that I have learn’t at lot from you and your videos, some I already knew and some I didn’t. My wife has been saying for some time that she has had enough. My van was 11 years old and whilst it was still in very good condition things were beginning to fail (inboard pump) for example, costs have been going Sky high and other negatives, so. I got a price from (we buy any caravans) and bang, it’s gone.
I was shell shocked for a couple of weeks because I can’t remember not having a caravan. Now that the dust has settled I don’t think that I did the wrong thing as the caravan industry is now in a very low place. I suddenly have money as I don’t have to get insurance, service, tyres, extra fuel etc, all costs that you’ll know about. I’m still a member of the C & M Club but somehow there is a big gap, even in my back garden where my caravan used to sit, so my enthusiasm for caravanning is somewhat tainted, but the whole is still there. I can now do more gardening, more other things that were neglected can now be done. I still watch your videos but with not quite the same enthusiasm. It may be the sign of the times, but this government doesn’t want you to have any luxuries. I am ducking out after 50 years but it’s nothing to do with you. So, keep doing what you are doing as it has been a pleasure to watch you and your advice. My time is over but you must keep going and doing what you do because you help caravanners and somebody has to do it. The industry has changed and not for the better I’m afraid.

Hey Dan, love your videos, look forward to new ideas and locations. But above all, your videos have given me the confidence to enjoy caravanning. Been doing it for 3 years (previously 8 years tenting) and have learnt a lot from your channel. Even more so recently from watching your adventures encouraged to go for an 8 foot wide unit when we upgraded. It’s a shame not to see that content, but looking forward to other videos you post. As others have said, it may be down to RUclips not wanting to pay out so much.

Hi, I find your “how to” videos brilliant. I’ve just removed, cleaned and refitted our MDK roof lights on our Sterling Eccles Sport. Without your videos we wouldn’t have known how. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 One change to your video is the screw holding the 2 layers together were, on ours, T27 torx and not Philips screws.
In the past, nobody wanted to see holiday photos when you return. I suspect the same mentality for holiday videos still exists. Short clips maybe like on IG as you mentioned or a still of a fantastic sunset/sunrise or castle/monument maybe gets a look but…don’t take it personally.
Sorry to hear of the accident - I wish for a speedy recovery.

Dan, why does low viewing figures for a certain type of video tarnish the channel? Isn’t it ok to have some videos that have a lower viewership?
I’m more interested in tips and fixes, gadget reviews than I am about seeing you on holiday, but I still watch those as well!

    • @TheTrudgians
      @TheTrudgians  5 месяцев назад

Hi, so what happens is as no one watches the latest round of uploads our historical viewing figures decline. This then stops the recommendation or notification from triggering for our current subscribers. So in effect we continue to decline. In YT terms its a dying channel.
Because this video was immediately viewed by a spike, notifications were sent from this video, causing a huge uplift and views.
So if we continue uploading holiday videos which is where our decline started, we would soon be a dormant, irrelevant channel that no one would be notified about.
