markafc83 Idd. Makes me all the more sad Sonic Xtreme got fumbled around with and given up on (the real "Sonic Adventure" [and Shenmue ofcourse] apparently both came a whole console generation too late). The model 2 SAT...my first proper console. Frickin proud of myself for having brains and taste enough even at 6-7 y o to not give in to what my father tried to push on me and go for the PS1 like the casuals. Sega needs to get back to hardware it's what they do best.
For the Saturn, the graphics are awesome. I got this for xmas in 1997 and I remember thinking that it looked like an N64 game. Undoubtedly some of the best 3D graphics on the system.
Traveller Tales they did really really good job here!! High Res graphics, water effects, clear sounds and etc. The only minor from this game it was a little bit the gameplay and draw distance.
I play this game on an actual Saturn (and BTW I'm 13) and my brother came in and laughed at this game's music. But in reality, IT'S THE ONE OF THE BEST GAME SOUNDTRACKS EVER MADE!
An outstanding graphics demo for Saturn, but the steering...oh, boy. The characters move like balloons, so lightweight and sliding everywhere. I keep trying to understand it, but I can't wrap my head around it. Ut everything sure looks nice: transparencies, reflections in water, smooth background fade-ins, a real solidity to the stages. It looks more like Nintendo 64 than Sega Saturn. Pity I can't control worth a damn. Great video!
Am happy it was called sonic R and not sonic racing (eventrough R refers to the word racing) but still just imagine if it was called sonic racing ,then peoples would,ve feel their self misleaded.
I love Sonic R. Especially with its music. No matter how many times did I play this game, I just loving it because it was awesome. So awesome that it the songs fit the tracks perfectly.
Love this game. I like the way that Sonic Gems Collection says Sonic R is for the saturn but the version there is obviously the PC version. Never played this game on saturn...
@supermario932 Nah, the PC and Gems versions are technically superior. They have random weather effects, you can see more of the track in the distance, the controls are a bit better, textures and backgrounds are much higher quality, and the character models are slightly improved. Additionally, the PC and Gems versions have 4 player, record times for individual characters, and less input lag. The Saturn version DOES have that transparent Radiant Emerald track though, which looks awesome.
whenever I play this game I always get the coins and the emeralds at the same time.. makes it pretty easy to get 100% fast... Love this game.. oh and it's much faster to go through the trees than take the booster, even with 50 rings. The more rings you have the faster you run as well. Just some tips for you
This was a pretty cool game - a real hybrid of Mario Kart style racing and 3D platforming. It's a shame that SEGA killed its potential in typical fashion by rushing it out the door early. I would love for SEGA to try this game again.
@wsondermann84 - Really? I know for a fact that in the PC versions (or 2004 version of the PC version) you can get the Medals and the Emeralds in the same race and it'll both count!
What a lot of people don't know is that the version on Sonic Gems collection is actually the pc version, the saturn version runs a lot smoother and has slightly better graphics
NovaCrackers To me the render distance is terrible and the models the SS are between hit or miss compared to the GameCube. Also why does metal sonics main picture look like he's dead?
@stalliontrainer heh erm... sorry to be a pain i the... never mind.... anyways thats Metal Sonic... Mecha Sonic is either a Roboticized version of Sonic OR the Metal Sonic version from Sonic and knuck;es/ 3& Knuckles
Ok sega seriously needs to relase a game with every old sonic game *Up untill adventure Excluding adventure* Including SegaSonic Arcade and all their older games Fixed Up In HD. Yes Im aware of sonics ultimate genesis NOT GOOD ENOUGH!
I love my old Saturn, but this game was nothing but crap. :-( They only made it up to recycle the stuff they had developped for Sonic X-treme, so they did not have to scrap all this expensive stuff. Too bad the real thing never made it to reality.
I wouldn't say it's a must-have by any means, but to completely blow it off as pathetic honestly isn't giving the graphic designers enough credit. Just look at Radical City or Radiant Emerald. I think both those levels still have a certain charm, even though they're rough around the edges. Too bad the PC/GameCube versions couldn't recreate the lighting of Radical City very well. One thing I will admit is that the draw distance in 2 player is pretty bad. With 1 player it doesn't really bother me.
+Kijaczenko I do know that but what was wrong with expressing my opinion That's like you saying The playstation version of Doom is better than the Saturn Version Saturn:1994 Playstation:1996
If only the GameCube could've captured even a fraction of the dynamic lighting that made the original visuals pop out so much. The worst offender is Radical City, which no longer shines in the moonlight, or has vibrant colors all throughout the casino area.
Maybe not the greatest sonic game ever, but the graphics really showcased what the Saturn was capable of. The tracks look amazing.
love this game. I still have my copy even though it's unplayable due to my friend's game doctor.

Am I the only one who loves how we run freely without being nag about when we go revert AND THE FACT WE COULD BE SUPER SONIC WITHOUT ANY RINGS.
Traveller Tales they did really really good job here!! High Res graphics, water effects, clear sounds and etc. The only minor from this game it was a little bit the gameplay and draw distance.
This game looks real fun. The controls look nightmare-inducing though.

This looks like a open world racing game.
LOOKS DIFFERENT FROM THE GAMECUBE VERSION
Well Duh. GC was loosely based on the PC version.
@garvensman I should clarify, you can get the coins, then get the emeralds when racing the robot enemies.
Love this game.
I like the way that Sonic Gems Collection says Sonic R is for the saturn but the version there is obviously the PC version.
Never played this game on saturn...

Traveller Tales that time it was best development studios! Really they make nice work for difficult hardwares too!
The soundtrack is breathtaking
I'm thinking of getting a Sega Saturn with this, Sonic 3D Blast, and Sonic Jam.
This was a pretty cool game - a real hybrid of Mario Kart style racing and 3D platforming. It's a shame that SEGA killed its potential in typical fashion by rushing it out the door early.
I would love for SEGA to try this game again.
tHE MUSICS THE BEST PART OF THIS GAME MAN I REMEBER THIS GAME
j'adore la musique de ce jeu elle est geniale
Oui, généralement même les jeux sonic plutôt merdique (genre sonic 2006) on une excellente ost
@ColasTeam aww i really love the music 8) its so awesome :D
@wsondermann84 - Really? I know for a fact that in the PC versions (or 2004 version of the PC version) you can get the Medals and the Emeralds in the same race and it'll both count!
I remember all but the challenger approaching
What a lot of people don't know is that the version on Sonic Gems collection is actually the pc version, the saturn version runs a lot smoother and has slightly better graphics
but the PC/Gamecube version has cool weather effects in the levels
the GameCube version has way better draw distance though.

Deathmetalmaniac96 I prefer the saturn graphics for this game. Same with Nights I prefer it on the Saturn as opposed to the remakes
I think the music was merely used to show off the power of the Saturb.
Metal Sonic's 1st appereance was in sonic 3
@garvensman yeah but I have some games on the satrun that will not use the joypad on the 3d controller, so I just wanted to be safe.
If they could have made a sonic game with these graphics on the Saturn that was an actual sonic game they would have hung with the competition.
Yes ... but unfortunately the programmers would have been hard to finish 😭😔
@stalliontrainer heh erm... sorry to be a pain i the... never mind.... anyways thats Metal Sonic... Mecha Sonic is either a Roboticized version of Sonic OR the Metal Sonic version from Sonic and knuck;es/ 3& Knuckles

Just outta curiosity, was that who I think it was that said "Ready, set, go"?
I had the remastered version of this on Sonic Gems Collection for PlayStation 2.
A maldição de tails doll em Sonic r se aplica se você não desbloquear o personagem?
@craztax it should work with any game, it's just a saturn controller...
Why isn't that mirror Sonic Head in the PC version? Oh man.
so we just not collectin the emeralds? we doin this now?
@wsondermann84 Well it does count in the PC/GC port.
@munsonx4 i think GC got PC version cause this looks way better and sounds way better than on Gems Collection
You can get the emerald then fight Metal Sonic, when you won Metal Sonic you get the Emerald too.
Táquipariu. O jogo da minha infância!
Metal Sonic debuted in Sonic CD, not Sonic 3.
this was the first sonic unleashed XD
lol the R doesn't sparkle and twirl around as it did in gems collection.
I thought he debuted on sonic 2. Don't u fight him before robotnik?
I never have seen speedshoes in this game
Is the 3D Saturn controller compadable with this game? I keep hearing complaints on the controls when using the D-pad, so I'm just wondering.
I have the Gamecube version of this, and I beat it 100% in like a day.. xD
I love my old Saturn, but this game was nothing but crap. :-(

Too bad the real thing never made it to reality.
3:02 Sonic CD Scene
Sometimes I think, if it weren't for the songs I never wouldve bothered with this mess of a racing game. But i 100%'d as much as i could
puedo hacer un video loquendo con tus videos
Saturn > Playstation
@stalliontrainer No it`s not
@wsondermann84 thats mecha sonic.
how can you get the saturn version if the saturn is discontinued?
SATURN emulators

It's on the sega saturn.
*Saturn
The music is not right for this game.
this game is a joke. Can;t believe people still talk about this being a must have title for Saturn, it's pathetic. and that music jeez
It's not a good racing game, but I think it shows off the Saturn's graphical capability well.
I wouldn't say it's a must-have by any means, but to completely blow it off as pathetic honestly isn't giving the graphic designers enough credit. Just look at Radical City or Radiant Emerald. I think both those levels still have a certain charm, even though they're rough around the edges.

me \o
Sanicball is better than this
Saturn version sucks
GameCube version best
+Kijaczenko I do know that but what was wrong with expressing my opinion

Saturn:1994
