Really poignant words: [ Freedom isn’t something that was just given to us, but it was something be risked our life for. And it’s not like we asked to be born in North Korea. We just opened our eyes and we were there. We really didn’t have a choice in the matter, and we wanted freedom so badly that we risked it all to come here, but when people say “just go back”, I hear it as “just go back and die”. ]
@@MS-gr2nv You and I both know that doesn't apply here. China deports North Korean defectors back to North Korea, where they might have their entire families killed. It's easy to talk all high and mighty about following rules, but let's be honest, you'd do the same thing if you knew you and your family were going to die.
I really liked her comment too. We are all born somewhere and in some circumstance and that part is just luck. I think this random -being born anywhere- argument is the best against racism. Those with extreme racial prejudice never imagine they could have been born with other skin color or in another country. I met a guy who was born into extreme wealth (billionaire family), yet his life was very hard in some ways (a lot of them have died, and he never had any friends, just a nanny) and I'd bet many poor people will have a better life than him (family, friends, happiness, etc). I am proud of this girl's philosophy and that she had the courage to believe it was worth the risk to escape to find something better.
@@MS-gr2nv u don't have the faintest damn clue on what's happening and what're you saying. NOT ALL of them came to China first, there ARE people who came straight to the South. And they NEVER SAID that they don't want to disobey/not following the South's rule, they just said that South people need to know more that the North's government who are in the wrong NOT the people/citizens, that they actually risked their life to get there only to get freedom, and not being ignorant about information about North people, land, resources etc. or should be more educated more on this topic. The fact that they pay taxes and so on PROVE that they FOLLOWED THE RULES thus showing how dumb ur comment was. And to put it into an emotional perspective, do u want to be born there and almost get killed by just finding a freedom in another place, but when u finally arrived in the place people just said "just fvkin go back" and fvkin die?! Do u choose where u would be born?
This was so informative and helpful. And all the girls here seem so sweet, smart and very well spoken, probably more than many South Koreans. Koreans in general, especially the young generation, are still so ignorant about North Korean issues even when it's our closest neighboring country (that share the SAME heritage and ancestry!)We need more people like these three to raise awareness. I wish them all the best. Thanks for sharing your honest thoughts. 💙💚❤
i agree. i wouldn't dare to compare people because that's not very nice but i do agree that south korea (and the rest of the world) has a responsibility. people say south koreans are scared of a reunification because they have issues of their own but so does literally EVERY country. that's not even an excuse. that's a bullshit excuse. also, if south koreas had a better welfare system they could assure ALL (basically) south koreans and north koreans to have decent life. but rich people really do hate poor.
I can see why the South Koreans feel that way. These North Koreans want reunification for 'selfish' purposes. They want to reunite with their families. They want everyone's lives over there to be better. But in the same way North Koreans didn't choose to be born there, South Koreans didn't choose to have a desperately poor neighbor. Reunification would cost an enormous price and not just in cash, and it would have to be paid over generations. I imagine most also feel little love-lost for people who hate them and treat them like they're devils. Propaganda or not, the hate is real from North Koreans. South Korea wouldn't even exist if it weren't for the United States, the North Koreans didn't set out to create 'North Korea' but to enslave the entire peninsula . In some sense I imagine they feel the North Koreans deserve their fate and if that's true personally I wouldn't blame them. Then you have the fact that, for most of the existence of North Korea and South Korea, the positions were actually reversed!! Life in North Korea was indeed better and South Korea was dirt poor. Where was the help from North Koreans then? The talk of reunification? The concern for South Koreans? And what has South Korea and the United States ever gotten by trusting North Korea and helping them out? Nothing, North Korea just uses them over and over and takes advantage of their kindness. All agreements ever made in good faith by SK and the US were never once reciprocated in good faith by NK, they just use them as a means to an end and betray them the first chance they get. But you want South Koreans, who feel little connection to North Koreans (and you shouldn't tell a country how it should self-identify) to turn their lives upside down for them and their future children in order to help people who give them nothing but lies, problems and grief?
what all that north " reuniting family" comes to south korea? I mean thousands of "brothers and sisters" will start invading rich southern cities, living in the outskirts, creating their own mafias, they will destabilize society
Such fascinating women. The way they speak and behave just radiates kindness and intelligence. It just goes to show how normal people from North Korea are if they are given a democratic government and economic freedom. Whatever happens in the geopolitical sphere, I wish the people well. I hope I get to see peace in the Korean region in my lifetime. (EDIT: typo)
Wow !! Thanks for the insight. So germans aren't evil anymore? What about the Russians? And more confusingly, why is the country that praises demicracy the loudest, responsible for 90% of wars in the last 50 years and getting ready for another one with israel?

These soft spoken women escaped North Korea by risking their lives. Read stories of doing this - it's a desperate struggle that many lose.
the woman in the white is so clever. she exactly knows how to respond to such question. IMO south korea doesn't want reunification bcuz of the economic repercussions they have to suffer after reunification. harsh but true the rich dont see the poor as their friend.
You are right, but the older generation wanted it a lot, but after seeing the unification of East and West Germany, and the cost, it seems like they are more startled by the cost of unification.
true but i don't understand south Korea people isn't better to live safe with sacrificing a little of your wealth than living in fear that the war will break someday
To be fair, the young South Koreans would be sacrificing more than a little of their wealth, to help bring North Koreans up to their standards. The actual cost of reunification is enormous.
RPG Yeah, the gap between East and West Germany is still large even when the berlin wall had been destroyed 29 years ago. A lot of people are skeptical if the two koreas are capable of reunification anymore considering how long they've been separated. United Korea might even descend into another civil war if they don't reunite the two countries properly.
East Germany was much better off both economically and in terms of development than what the situation seems to be in North Korea. But one can still hope, Korea will unite one day.
@@nelliee6736 the difference is way bigger though. East Germans weren't starving to the extent that they were actually shorter than the west Germans. Also, the education system behind the iron curtain was quite good. Not so much with North Corea.
Really great interview here. I've always known that this was an emotionally charged subject for the defectors, but hearing them talk about the economic benefits was really eye-opening. It's really unfortunate that some South Koreans can't empathize with them. There would be immense job opportunities to rebuild North Korea and integrate back into the 21st century, but the issue is do they have the funding to create those jobs? I suppose that's where politics comes in and that's where they start making deals, but it really would be the best way for them to reunite. Making it a gradual process would be the best way to ease everyone's minds. Education should be the #1 priority if reunification should ever happen. Not just for North Koreans, but for South Koreans as well. Really appreciate videos like this because these are the first steps to educating everyone about the importance of reunification.
UpChucked Well, the problem is that the young ones are going to have to support all of this. They will have to 'suck up' the consequences of a war they had no responsibility for. And if Korea is already hell for many of these young children, imagine how it will be with the crushing economic weight placed on them. Sure, many are going to be called selfish for refusing unification. But can we truly blame them? Why should they have their dreams and future crushed because of something they had no part in creating? And for as much as people can say that the benefits in the long run will be great, who will truly benefit from this? The economists? The politicians? You name it. And for how long will they have to suffer until these 'benefits' arrive? Yes, North Koreans are suffering a great deal. There is no denying that. But what about the young ones in South Korea, constantly driven to suicide by an increasingly oppressive and futurless society? Do we truly have the right to ask for any more sacrifices from them? I apologize if anyone feels offended by this. That is not my intention. Just some food for thought.
The younger generation is definitely on the short-end of this entire situation because regardless they'll be the ones living with the ramifications of reunification or a lack thereof. I feel there's no solution to be had here without both sides requiring serious commitment and support. I truly believe reunification is a long-term solution to many economic issues. The problem is that how long can South Korea carry that economic weight of North Korea. Job creation would have to be priority #2 and the infrastructure would have to be built first within North Korea to create these jobs that many young South Koreans are trying to obtain. I certainly don't blame South Koreans on not wanting reunification, but what are the other long-term solutions? I'm curious and wonder if Asian Boss can delve into some economic topics about that.
If they sell there natural resources at the prices they are worth it, they can use the money for paying the jobs. The initial cost might actually not be that high for south korea. :) It might be a view bilion but after a view months they could already start to see profit!
UpChucked, the funding will come from South Korea's wealth fund since South Korea is very rich. Also a big chunk of the money will also come from foreign investors. There will be a huge opportunity here for the world, and I am absolutely certain that many global companies will be rushing to invest in North Korea. It's mentioned that they have $6 trillion in natural resources, but that number is from the early 2000's. Today's dollar value will be much higher. Much of that has been buried in the ground untouched because North Korea lacks technology and they don't allow foreign companies to dig them out. Also remember, colonial Japan used to have huge gold mines in North Korea when they held Koreas as their colony. North Korea has world's third largest uranium deposits, not to mention all kinds of valuable minerals. And it's not just about natural resources, it's about Korean peninsula being smack right in the middle between China, Russia, and Japan. Korea would be focal point of a transportation hub for manufacturing goods or resources like oil being transported between Russia, Korea, and Japan. Right now, both South Korea and Japan get expensive oil from Middle East via ships. What happens if a pipeline is built from Russia to the rest of Korea and Japan? Cheaper fuel, and a huge boost to competitiveness to those countries. These are just few small examples of a cascading effects and benefits. And don't forget, 25 million North Koreans will need daily necessities like shampoos and toothpastes. Can you imagine what this will do to the shampoo and toothpaste factories in South Korea? They'll have to boost production, hire more people, and these businesses will grow more profitable - turning into more high paying jobs for South Korean executives and managers. The list of possible benefits are endless.
Johanneslol11 but no one knows if they're real. and even if they were real no one knows if they remain in the north (alot of experts from the south believes that all the resources are already taken by the chinese)
There is this Korean movie that i watched last night called “the front line”. It’s about the Korean war and the people who were on the front line battling over a hill. Great movie and you can see that both sides are human. Humans with families, fears, dreams/hope, and compassion. Both sides are fighting each other and sadly, they don’t know why. They spent 3 years at war and nothing changed. Hundreds of thousands lives lost over nothing. Highly recommend the movie for those who are disinterested in reunification.
It's very sad that a beautiful country is divided by the interest of other countries and some people sick of power. It's a shame that the countries that supported that war and pushed them to fight never cared about the people who suffered the horror of the war and died, they don't even cared about their own soldiers. All that families destroyed, what a shame.
Cheryl lin yup. Aside from having some cool scenes in it, the movie was damn near heartbreaking. It really shows how mankind is good at ripping itself apart.
Once again, thank you so much Asian Boss. This is such an insightful video, and it was so interesting to hear what these three defectors had to say about North & South Korea. Every question asked was great, and the answers to those questions were very raw, and it got me thinking!
Thank you for posting, its nice to here, and see different perspectives from other people. I have learned more and more about Korea by watching Asian Boss.
For South Koreans' opinions on reunification, watch this video: ruclips.net/video/BZchtQ9-PWY/видео.html What's your take on the upcoming summit between North Korea and the United States? Discuss.
The only reason I find it hard that the reunification will happen, is what happens with Kim Jong Un? He can't be kept in power and he has to pay for the crimes he has committed. Why would he agree to anything that takes him out of power and possibly jailed?
my thought is NK and SK dont need reunification, the only think what must happen NK gouvernant has to stop their old fashoned paranoid thinking, making piece with there neighbours and open them self up to the world....traiding with SK, China, etc, to rebuilt their country. I bet if once Kim takes a taste of pure kapitalism he realize that there is no need for nuclear weapons cause money and economy is a much stronger and effective weapon then any bomb in the world.
I feel strongly that there needs to be unification between both countries. I don't think it'll be easy and I know there will be many issues in the beginning, but I think baby steps are needed. I agree that both countries should keep separate government's and start small by building roads and adding more jobs. This will build trust and create a good foundation for the future. But bc of the huge culture difference between the 2 countries and the thousands and thousands of foreigners living in Korea, like myself, it does make me worried for my own safety if reunification was to happen. But nonetheless, I consider Korea my home and believe in this country. Where there's a will there's a way. I also show my students these videos to try to teach them about unification and how important it really is. Thank u so much for sharing this video. ♡
Asian Boss we will have to wait and see personally I don't anything groundbreaking will happen but I'm holding out hope that there's at least going to be a deescaltion of tensions for a while.
It would be REALLY interesting for you to ask North Korean defectors their opinion on unification. I'm sure they would have some incredible insight. Just a thought.
I once heard a story from a Korean war veteran who fought alongside South Korean forces when I was working as convenience store guy. He shared a small trench with 2 South Korean soldiers and 2 days after a skirmish one began to cry holding the US veteran's hand. He asked "What happened to our people? Why am I killing my friends, my neighbors?" Nearly a decade later I never forget this story, many things that are so horrible I can't imagine and this was one of them. Sad news is the US veteran kept in touch with the South Korean soldier, and the South Korean soldier had died in 2005. They would visit each other in their respective countries.
"And it's not like we asked to be born in North Korea. We just opened our eyes and we were there" ....this hurt a lot! We are lucky we have freedom yet we complain about our lives. These poor souls back in NK deserve freedom so badly!
I'm Canadian, why am I watching this? Lol. It's really nice to see perspectives on these topics from outside my national news. We need more of this! Thanks Asian boss! 😊
I really liked one of the pivotal point said by the girl in the middle. South is struggling for job hunts anyway, so rather then building factories overseas and creating jobs for overseas people why not build the infrastructure and industries in North Korea. It would be beneficial for both sides creating jobs and developing infrastructure at the same time. Plus, NK has abundance natural resources and by using the right technology from SK it could become the great country for exporting goods for developing nations. Leaders from both sides really need to sit down and think from the economic perspective. economy proceeds prosperity.
yui7star China is just a soso neighbor to NK. What really shaped NK is the Soviet Union which doesn’t exist anymore. If America is not a major part of the reunion (like building military base near China) I don’t think China would care.
Great interview, Asian Boss, and extremely thought provoking! I was surprised to find out North Koreans aren’t as closed off as we’re given to believe. I had no idea they had access to so much information about what life is really like in both South Korea and China. Once people’s eyes are open, there’s no way to make them believe the lies you’ve been telling them. Brainwashing only works when there is no other competing messaging. You didn’t, however, address one of the greatest barriers to North/South Korean reunification: China. Right now, China sees Korean reunification as an existential threat. For as long as South Korea is politically, and economically closely aligned with The West, The United States in particular, China can not tolerate the idea of losing North Korea as its Communist Allie. Having a US backed Democracy at their border accessing The North’s resources and economic opportunities is a complete non-starter. I actually view China as being the ultimate barrier to Korean reunification. I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on this.
This is a great point, so will a China that has more power in the world mean they will feel strong enough that it doesn't matter anymore that North Korea joins with South Korea or prevent unification even more because China has even more to say on the world stage ? I guess the last is true ?
I don’t think China would care that much. Most of them fled to China before going to SK. If china want to intervene they probably won’t go through that easily. The real problem is China won’t let America has any nearby military base. I think if the US is not involved so much, China would be ok with it.
A nation of 52 million people to re-unify with 25 million people, with the living standard being so much different. Germany had about 60 million integrating 17 Million, and the living standard was not that drastically different. Yet we still have not bridged all the differences. That would be a very difficult task, and you'd be better off learning from the biggest German mistakes, and do it more gradually. But it will come. You cannot cut into pieces what belongs together.
- Linguistic differences, we still can not communicate completely free of misunderstandings - there is still a significant wealth gap in between the old west and east parts - the industrial efficiency of the east ranges still behind that of the west part - we do often still look more at the differences in between us, instead if focusing on our common strengths, which is usually what people of separate countries do. There was politician A who promised with glowing words a paradise and golden landscapes after the re-union. Politician B tried to warn us, and highlighted the critical points. He said what politician A was saying are empty promises. He said it would be a long and stony road, not a paradise, but we can do it. The answer to him was an assassination attempt. Not hard to guess whom the Eastern Germans elected, isn't it? The economical gap and the cultural gaps in between both Koreas is even wider.
Peter Kroll but it's still not been that long since Germanys reunification. For the most part the country looks like it's on track to being complete their might still be economic discrepancies but those just need to be figured out over more time.. My mom wast there when the wall was up and noted the stark differences but my grandparents just went back for vacation a few weeks ago and noted that it was much better.
Around 30 years. It will come together what has to be together. I'm saying think carefully how you do it. Don't follow the German example "everything now". Most people don't imagine how much 60 years can change a country and it's people. (In our case its was only 45 years.)
my POV: - linguistic differences? thats not true. in every german state we have dialects, that has nothing to do with west and east germany. dialects came from the small kingdoms within germany - there is a wealth gap because west germany shut down all of the factories in the east. so a lot of ppl couldnt work anymore and right now the gap isnt even that big! a lot of west germans come to live in big cities in the east like berlin and dresden to me the gap in north and south korea doesnt look any bigger than germany once had. the korean history is about 5000 years old, so they still have a lot of in common! germany never had such a long history as an unified country like korea does. so I think it is even easier to unify north and south.
I loved that line : "no matter how much you brainwash people, there's no way to suppress their natural curiosity". Also "there's no way of stopping information; information is like a virus". Thank you Asian Boss for bringing us these perspectives on North Korea, which are not generally accessible to the westerners (I'm from Europe).
Another insightful interview, I feel greatly for these women. To be separated from their families for years is truly heartbreaking. Thank you again for such amazing content.
I’ve noticed that all the North Koreans in your videos are so calm and soft spoken, whereas South Koreans are more loud and energetic. I’m not Korean, but in many ways I can relate to the stresses and problems of South Koreans, but in a bad way. I think developed countries cause the youth to overthink and over-stress. It’s ridiculous that we have to live in societies like these, and as much as I want to slow down, I can’t because this is all I know.
I don't think so. North Koreans especially in Pyeongyang and nearby regions were very warlike people since medieval age. This regions had many foreign invasions, rebellions, discrimination by southern(capital) people. They were even discriminated in royal court so they just work in a commerce. If Korea reunite, these characteristics would revive again.
ᄂᄋᄉᄐ is because they have to think carefully before saying something, since they indirectly Represent North Korean and things they say could offend South, they tend to limit their vocabulary, is not that special, you'll probably notice that tourist visit certain area, even if they know the language perfectly, they limit themselves
I'm 20's from one korea. I desperately want reunification. It's time to wake up jung un!! People in the north korea are not just anybodies. A lot of young south korean feels sorry for people in the north korea.
hoda sara NEVER! Young south korean like them. But a north korean woman went back to north korea, saying i hate south korea in north korea broadcast. So we get not to believe north korean people more than before.
hoda sara we thought like that too,but it was wrong. She left her boyfriend message 'i will go back to north for my new life. @@nomore__5372 no, that is a big myth. I once attended a church were there were dozens of North Koreans, and the church created so many special programmes for them and devoted a lot of volunteers to help them integrate into Korean society and to build friendships with them.

Thank you Asian Boss for putting together one of the most thought provoking and informative and honest videos I have ever seen in my entire life about Korea in general. Where did you find these ladies? My goodness these 3 ladies are probably one of the most humble, kind hearted, intelligent, honest, grateful, and beautiful people I have ever seen. They are literally the best representation of Korean people that I have ever heard from or witnessed, and I would dare say they are perhaps the best representation of HUMAN BEINGS in general by just the way they talk and act so naturally and are completely down to earth with nothing but kindness, gratitude, charm, and liveliness oozing from their hearts and soul. Like some of the other comments here, I totally agree that these ladies are by far much kinder and thoughtful than a majority of the South Korean people due to the fact that these ladies have gone thru hell to be in the more stable places they are today. That just shows that South Koreans have a long way to go before they can finally wakeup someday and change themselves for the better because most of the South Koreans that I have met (specifically the younger generation who grew up in Korea their whole lives) have been arrogant, ignorant, unkind, judgmental, and definitely ungrateful people. Kudos to Asian Boss and the amazing ladies for providing so much information and reflection in such a casual and relaxing short video - which is more than I have ever got from so many full documentary style videos I have seen in the past that didn't provide anywhere near as much insight as this simple video. There needs to be a way for ALL KOREANS EVERYWHERE to watch this video and perhaps that can start a fuse to finally light up everyone into taking real action to make the unification a reality. Perhaps someone needs to post this video on every social media available to date and give it the title as the "most insightful interview of North Koreans EVER" :) Best of luck!!!
I wish you all the best for a reunification in the near future! Greetings from the eastern part of a reunited Germany to all Koreans, North and South. May you all be Koreans of one country again 🙂
I am so full of admiration of how brave they are! And thank you Asian Boss for such an insightful and nuanced video! I think the world is rooting for you. For peace, for democracy and for better living conditions whether or not that means unification or separated countries but with freedom of movement. Love from Stockholm, Sweden!
As a Korean, it makes me so sad. South Koreans today treats American or Japanese people better than their own people (north koreans), even if they live in a communist country, we share the same history, culture, and language, And we were separated because of foreign countries, and seeing that so many south koreans don`t want the reunification just show how selfish we are nowadays.
Exactly. At least don't abuse them. You can stay as different countries.... it's okay. But the problem is they don't even think of North Koreans as their equal. How can you treat your own blood like that? That's just selfish.
Thank you for sharing. Many South Koreans come on vacation to Hawaii and when I ask them about reunification they always say no. They have concerns about Communism. They also think most North Koreans are too brainwashed. As we see here, older generations in North Korea may still be more brainwashed, but the younger generations are learning that North Korea leaders have been lying to them all this time to maintain their power. I think many more people will defect from North Korea and if those people are preparing financially, they can support their families when reunification happens. Unfortunately Kim Jong-un doesn't seem to want to give up power. I think the only way for reunification is if the current government is overthrown from within, but I don't know if the people will have the courage to do it.
As a Chinese, we also want Korean unification because stability is also the key to Chinese economy too. Imagine a 350kmh high-speed railway can be built between Beijing-Pyongyang-Seoul, it just took us 2 hours to Pyongyang and 3 hours to Seoul by train. Lots of business opportunities can be created for both China and Korea. The idea of the buffer zone is already obsolete.
You are right, and like the 3 girls from North Korea said, it would also be beneficial for Korea to trade with Europe, because its directly connected to more of the East Asian mainland.
lets just be honest here... the biggest reasons why the two korea's cant reunite is because of the kim family and China. without those two... Korea would have unified a long time ago
this is why i love this channel, and non mainstream news channels in general. this is all real, theres no one paying the interviewer to steer it a certain way or ask certain questions, its all real not to advance some stupid agenda. its so amazing love the channel keep doing what your doing!
If north Koreans themselves stand against Kim and demand a democracy then I see a bright future ahead. Because only then it would be the people who can decide if they want reunification or Not. Simple. But I can see how difficult it would be for north Koreans to stand against Kim.
They simply just don't have the energy to revolt against him. They're starving and malnourished making it so that can't do anything serious. Not to mention only the rich kids and government officials get to stay in Pyongyang, any revolt elsewhere would most likely just result in the whole town being executed. They also have really no idea on what democracy is, that is unless the defectors were to return, ones educated on politics that is, and running the country.
I think the phrase that the uncle of that woman in the middle said isn't that wrong "Always be grateful to North Korea, and be good while you are there." No matter where you are from, you can't erase your past because you are the byproduct of all the things you have gone through and the people you have met. The regime and dictator there sucks but the people don't, they are just like you or me. I don't know if you get my point. ;--;
I would hope nobody would think the people are “bad”. I mean, it’s like seeing one mean person and saying the rest of the country they’re from is mean. What an awful and untrue grave assumption to make Makes no sense. No matter where you go there will always be “good” and “bad” people.
Dear Asian Boss, I appreciate you bringing this interesting interview, but before you make a bold claim that North Korea is sitting on trillions of dollars worth of natural resources I suggest you check your source very carefully. Apparently your source came from an article from Quartz and it seems their source came from another news agency, Bloomberg. I wasn't able read the whole article and verify since Bloomberg Businessweek articles are opened only to their paid subscribers, but Quartz article says that the estimate came from a South Korean state-owned mining company (no name given). That sounds VERY fishy to me. There's another popular source from The Economist saying there's 10 trillion dollars beneath NK, but that estimate came from a South Korean research institute (again, no name given) in 2012. That's 6 years ago and their method of research is also unknown. To me they all sound very speculative with no concrete back ups. If their justification for reunification is largely due to natural resources, that argument solely depends on highly speculative sources. Please attach your sources on your future videos.
WhyYouTaken I think the speculation was brought on for the sake of getting a North Korean perspective on the idea of natural resources being abundant and thus proving that NK be beneficial for SK economically. That being said, the question seemed to hit the mark when these ladies shared their anecdotes.
@@twinkstepwaifu Exactly. The whole point was that North Korea is basically an untapped resource. The government is probably sitting on so much natural resources and they don't have the technology to get those resources, that they actually have the Chinese come and take their resources. That's the sad part.
The fact is that you could have a very well-known company making the estimates, but that doesn't automatically make the estimates more reliable. Prior to 911, there were estimates that there were some 200 billion barrels of crude oil in the Caspian Sea, but it turned out that the real amount is probably only about a fifth of that, and much of that is rather low quality and relatively expensive to extract. Thus the real reason for carrying out 911 and invading Afghanistan didn't materialise as projected by the likes of Unocal.
Having experience from East Germany, I think a reunification is an extremely difficult process and there is no result that's gonna satisfy everyone. If North Korea bankrupts and gets annexed, everyone will try to move to the south, and the north will remain unpopulated and completely stuck in development. If North Korea remains an independent country, it will eventually become prey to China, which will try its best to prevent it from falling to South Korean influence.
ROKMC Rec. He has children. A boy too. He ordered his brother to be assassinated. If he wants anything from trump it is to lift the sanctions because they have no food, but he'll maintain the propaganda to his people. Kim Jong un dying will not change a thing
I agree, but who's keeping the Kim regime alive? It's the Chinese! They need to sow divide in the peninsula to continue taking advantage of N. Korea's cheap labor and abundant natural resources! China doesn't want a larger, stronger Korea!
The ladies are very smart & their stories are heartbreaking. The problems with nuclear weapons and poverty are because of their leaders, and their citizens are suffering. Wishing you all the best!
Keep up the great work Asain Boss! I pray that the reunification of both North and South Korea happens in my lifetime. You guys are amazing at what you do. I have been binging on your videos while in quarantine. Stay safe. And please keep the videos coming. The message needs to be spread far and wide. People need to open their eyes. Theae people are wonderful. All they want is freedom. We all want that! Everyone deserves freedom!!
This is a video of a very valuable conversation. Thank you. An idea for Asian Boss... Maybe find a few people who grew up in East Germany, before THEIR reunification, and have them discuss this with some Korean folks.
RUclips platform should help this channels. At least must be recommended in youtube, to reach as many people as possible. This interviews are really revealing and informative, the first-hand opinions of the NK people help a lot to understand how serious and complex the situation is. I just hope that in the next few decades we can see a reunification, and see how this percentage of disinterests does not go down any more. ( less than 15% is a low percentage, that shocked me too much). Im just find this channel by accident, but thanks for having found it.
Thank you for a good interview, Asian boss and ladies. I am 20s in Korea. I am preparing to contribute to our reunification in the Ministry of Unification. I think people don't want reunification should change their mind. If their family are in North Korea, they may want it like the separated families. We need a sense of history and 역지사지. And then I think the most important thing to change the children's mind is education. Thank you guys, again.
La plus forte impulse vers l’unification pourrait être la nourriture, et plus de respect envers les vrais bukhanais qui ne sont pas politiques sinon seulement ont l’envie à une vie meilleure.
What an insightful interview! I am so grateful for videos like this. They really help me understand the situation of North/South Korea better (I'm from Europe).
Amazing message and insight! Thank you very much! I pray that Korean families get unified as soon as possible and human devastation stops. I think that if unification is to happen, since it is a fundamental issue, it cant get in small steps. Just if you have a major wound, you cant heal it in very small steps but need a major treatment or medicine. The unification in Germany was also one major event, a specific day and a decision, and the consequences were dealt after. It took time, but people are now better off than before in all terms. It is really truly that if you want to boost an economy, the best is to increase your economies of scale (i.e. working force).

Honestly speaking reunification isn't possible. But what north korea can do is first of all throw the Kim Dynasty out of power. Don't underestimate the masses. Somebody needs to teach them about the French revolution. They can follow capitalism.. slowly but surely they'll be doing fine. I remember north korea was doing way better than the south after Korean war. But it might be because they were getting funds from USSR back then for supporting communism I'm not sure See they don't even know what capitalism is. The irony is there are already following capitalist markets but they just do not know. Also, they have to survive on their own anyway.... what's the point of socialism then. It's easy for you to say. Why couldn't you beat the imperial Japanese army back then? ....it's not easy to just fight with someone who has weapons and you know they can kill you. Half the people will support the Kim Dynasty there so the other half gets scared....what if it's only a few of us who are in this fight and what if our own people betray us. Fear....we are human beings. They need a revolutionary party or something first of all.
Thanks for this. I take great interest in the videos where North Korean defectors get to speak their minds; it offers unique insights, a point of view missing from most media, especially here in the USA. Thanks for keeping us informed.
I think reunification in the Korean peninsula is a double whammy. On the one hand, it would be good for all koreans, to united in separated families that was torn apart during the Korean war and to know one Korean culture, but at the same time, there will be disagreements over the capital of the United Korea, south Korea may have to double or triple their GDP to fix the North Korean economy and the economy of South Korea. So basically, even though I support the united Korea, it's still need to be think through.
Delante's Vlog Show SK gains space for industries and cheap workforce. NK flocks with starving people and criminality might go crazy. Without the proper education (which is very much the prospect) the younger spoiled generation harmless and flawless from scars of history will just hate on NK'ans until massive civil protest surface and possible civil breakdown. Education is very important. The "democrat x republican" dichotomy in SK'an politics need to change if the country wants to stay here for more than a millenium. The rent is too expensive and specially younger need better position in the empty hierarchy ruling the mindset of society. There is more than two options in politics and very few despite the urgency have the guts to stand for it. The counter clock of birth in korea is absurdly fast-paced. The country is literally dying and people are acting normally.
Delante's Vlog Show Japan? lol. US created this environment. Highly unlikely that help aside from "diplomacy" will be positive to Koreas. As soon as a hypothetical reunification comes, a thousand instructions and laws should come. For investors and to the safety of both countries. The dictatorship will never settle without a huge amount of money and a big chunk of anything positive to the country. That's the biggest point. NK is a playground for Kims. They are their gods and who would want to stop being a god in a lego land you watch from your throne? There is the only place diplomatic relations have some purpose. They can't be arrested or killed, because of US, China and Russia ties with them, but it will be a matter of how to sell the space and workforce in north korea as more than trash starving slaves to the already spoiled unethical south korean industries. Firstly there is a need for basic humanitarianism that you won't find in SK. Nor in china or anything near. The US never helps anything without destroying first so it needs to be profitable to them to "rebuild" NK before economic reconstruction (think a green party idealization of Perestroika) can be started. Educating, washing, nourishing, giving human conditions to the small country is far much easier than dealing with the tribal warfare in african continent for example. But the thing more concerning is the selfishness and the ego in all the countries involved. Emptiness, ignorance and negligence still the main causes of death in the world.
Aa D You said, "US created this environment." Can you elaborate on that? You also said, "The US never helps anything without destroying first so it needs to be profitable to them to "rebuild" NK before economic reconstruction (think a green party idealization of Perestroika) can be started." The US didn't start the Korean War. After WW2, the US was already starting to help SK with all sorts of Aid, and the US didn't really wanted anything to do with SK. The US/UK/UN called for Free Elections in both NK and SK in 1947
Because it's currently so difficult for the youth living in South Korea, it's a bit unfair to view their opinions towards reunification as being merely cold and unfriendly (although I don't think Asian Boss did that in this video - this was, seperately, an awesome look into how North Korean defectors view this situation). That being said, if the issues that young people face in SK were adequately addressed (including, but not limited to: the intense competitiveness of the job market, the rigidity and demanding school system + entrance exams, the stigmas around mental health, the lack of work/life balance, etc.) then I truly believe that the South Korean people would be better equiped to consider reunification seriously. If you are currently fighting to make it in the world, then it's just that much harder to open your heart up to helping others. Adding the collective needs of an entire country to the backs of South Koreans at the present moment would be a difficult pill to swallow for many; after all, North Korea would need so much foundational work to reunify - from infrastructure to policy revisions, to health care and reintigrating North Koreans back into society; the cost is not insignificant. But I don't think that means that reuinification can't or will never happen. It just shouldn't be overnight, as these other problems need to be addressed first.
I'm not Korean but this discussion is really really good, I think all South Koreans should watch this. I hope the youths in the south can have their eyes and hearts opened by learning this issue. I would be so thrilled if they ever reunite again.
I grew up in West Germany. 1989 I was 27 years old. Before the wall came down, I also thought I don't want a united Germany. Then everything went very fast. That made me angry. I couldn't imagine how that would work. I was afraid that my own prosperity would suffer. At work I had a colleague who had fled from GDR. Her profession was recognized without any problems. But her educational gaps were huge. She sat over her books every free minute and caught up on knowledge. And she was very suspicious. That shooked me. Many of the habits that the GDR regime had created persisted for a long time. It took 30 years for Germany to really grow together. For those 20 to 30 year olds who grew up without a division, a united Germany is a matter of course. The elderly, like me, have learned that people need time to adapt to a new system. These have been difficult years for all of us. Not everyone in the east has arrived in the west, and some in the west are still prejudiced. But I think that we Germans can be proud of what we have achieved in 30 years. Korea will do it too.
The essential point that is missing in this dialogue is how they want to deal with the current North Korean dictatorship after all. So these interviewees want to reunify somehow, but they are still agreeing that Kim Jong Un will not give up nukes to keep his power or at least he will exchange his nukes with some kind of guarantee to keep his dictatorship. Then, what is the point? Do they want to still live in such tyranny yet only without international santions? What is it they really want? Current N. Korean dictatorship is founded on a false basis that should keep brainwashing their people to be separated from the reality. I cannot imagine Kim Jong Un letting his people face the actual truth unless he is willing to give up his rules, which I honestly think would not happen. What matters is the choice of the North Korean people themselves. It is either they keep living like this, or they change their nation themselves. It has been 70 years and there has been nothing (at least that's big enough to be acknowledged by the world). Then how should South Koreans believe that North Koreans will want or admit a democratic society with values like freedom and liberty? North Korean people would need to stand up for their own freedom against the tyranny if they really want freedom as South Koreans did. Freedom is not free after all.
These people obviously don't want KJU to stay in power. They're simply imagining the possibility that he somehow give up his power. As for the NK people revolting? You're asking an awful lot from people who would have to go against an army with nuclear weapons to reclaim their freedom. In other words, it's impossible. Edit: just saw the opinion of the middle girl. Uhhhh, yeah, that's crazy
Every revolt in human history has been standing against such power. If it is impossible to them, then it is impossible to any other people from any other country. Have they even tried? The N. Korean Army is N. Korean themselves. About half of N. Korean population is somehow related to N. Korean Army. If that army shoot down their own people? Then that system is so wrong and that has to be extinguished. Period. Hence, we cannot really trust anything that comes out from N. Korean mind until they actually prove that they really want freedom. It was the same case in S. Korea in recent 70 years of its history.
Sungjin Kim there is no revolt in history that's gone against a nuclear power. The only way it could probably happen is if KJU was assassinated and a power vacuum opened up. Of course NK's system is terrible, but how are they going to rebel when the first person that tells another they want to rebel gets sent to prison? If your life stayed the same, but if you criticized the government in any setting, you'd be sent to prison for treason, would you criticize the government or go back to living your comfortable life? Their bad life is all they think is possible and they don't want to make it even worse, since they've already suffered the worst with the famines just a few years ago
Your points actually resonate with mine. Yes, the NK system is terrible and works in a way that oppresses people. Bottom line is then that system has to be broken somehow. Then who do you think should break that system? Power from other countries such as KOR, CHN, RUS, JPN, USA? I would say that is a worse option for NK people themselves and that is the logic of current NK tyranny: keeping their country safe from other countries. It is the same vicious cycle all over again. The best choice they have is that NK people themselves do it. Finally, no revolt has gone against a nuclear power?- I don't see the point here. Are you saying that the KJU would nuke their own people on their land if they rise up?
@@llllllllllIlllllllIlllll No. They would do mass public executions and have everyone 12 and up watch. The way they are executed is gruesome and inhumane. Keep watching Asian Boss and you'll find out the details if you can handle it. They don't have access to weapons effective enough to penetrate the Pyongyang army. They don't have tanks, bombs, or guns. What else do they have, kitchen knives? Rocks? Sticks? Who else can help them? China? Russia? Hell no they will not! Why not South Koreans, the most logical ally for North Koreans? When the Kim regime is backed into a corner, they will strike harder and they don't care if it's their own people. They let their people starve to death just to build and maintain their nuclear arms. What does that tell you how an outcome of rebelling would do to the North Korean people as well? South Korea has to open its eyes and educate themselves on what goes on in North Korea. The resistance and the selfishness of South Korean youth will be the downfall of all Korea if they keep treating their North Korean brothers and sisters the way they have described by these women. It's up to you if you want a future for yourself and your children in Korea. You can't blame other countries for this.
These young Ladies tell a tragic story. The N/S Korean divide is symptomatic of a world gone mad. The opinions presented by the three youngsters (no disrespect here. As a 71 year old American, I'm allowed to call them youngsters, in an affectionate fashion.) are pretty much spot on, IMHO. Especially here, at 14:07 . Follow her comments all the way through. Well Said! Very Well Said!. I've heard it said that "If there must be war, let it be in my time, that my children may know peace." It's teh same sentiment. Let's hope the situation in Korea can be resolved peacefully, sooner rather than later.
Thank you, that was very interesting! I am from Germany and we were in a very similar situation, just not as severe as it is in North and South Korea. The Reunion was one of the best things that happened to Germany imo, so I really hope that Korea will unite aswell at some point
Indeed. Just look at Germany now, from being divided, to being the fourth largest economy in 30 years. Though then again, the country above you guys, Japan, certainly doesn't want a united Korea, as it's a threat to their stake in Asia.
Actually the german reunification was pretty much a failure, despite the economic division and the time seperated between both german nations being by far smaller than it would be with Korea. The east german economy was pretty much taken over by west german investors and companies immediately, the economic divide is still quite large and social integration failed as well, both in winning over people to the west german economic system as well as west germanys evolution into an immigration, leaving a pretty bitter and disillusioned chunk in east germanys population which doesn't trusts into their democratic institutions and is easily swayed to the far-right due to increasing immigration. Most east german politicians to this day are originally from the west, so they lack their own political representation too. The Cleptocrats of the Kim regime are also a different beast to deal with than the SED leadership, who where largely hopeless ideologues. East Germany had a peaceful revolution happening before, which the SED Regime couldn't and wouldn't be able to stop through militaristic means. North Korea on the other hand is a by far more ruthless dictator ship than the DDR with a by far bigger military in relation to their civilian population. And again, germany was in a by far brighter situation back than than both koreas are right now.

Wow, all of you girls talked so much sense, the interviewer was great at asking the right questions. Congratulations to all of you, Korea are blessed to have you...brilliantly said girls.
If two Koreas are to reunite, Korea will be a country with over 70 million people and also possess nuclear power, it will right away turn Japan into a second-class country by military power. China and Korea's relationship will also be harmed. Korea will march towards a more independent position from the control of both China and the U.S. Reunification is never about emotion or nationalism, it is always a strategic decision. At the end of the day, China losses an ally, and the U.S. losses a threat. Big celebration for the western democratic world.
This video is amazing, everyone should watch this. Especially South Koreans. The reunification needs to happen and i pray thay it will in the next few years!
The media play a big part in our perceptions of North Korea. I learnt a lot from this, if only more people would be able to hear the stories of North Koreans they would understand that the people are only victims of the regime. The people didn't choose to be born there, it would be amazing if Korea was reunified to give those people a chance at a better life and for some to find their loved ones.
Il faut différencier entre le vrai bukhanais qui souffre, pleure et lutte et ces élites qui vivent une vie de fantaisie sur des nuages dans un monde fictif.
That's what that lady said: "why aren't we one if we have a 5000 story together?" Yes! What are 70 years of separation close to 5000 long years together historically
I am an ESL teacher for Korean students for almost 14 years. I have asked this question to my South Korean students many times, except for very young ones. Most of my students (ages 10-20) do not like the reunification of the two Koreas.(regardless of their religions). First, they think that S. Korea is having a good economy now and reunification will cost them gazillions of money since they need to help them in everything. Second, they think that North Koreans will take their jobs. Also, they think that North Koreans are uneducated so they need to adjust for them. There are more reasons that they've told me but can't rememeber. However, the older the S. Koreans get, the more they want reunification (ages 21-senior citizen)....First, many of my students who had completed their compulsary military trainings said that it was frightening to be stationed at the DMZ. IF the two Koreans will be reunited, there's no need for these military trainings. Second, most of my middle aged to 65 years old students still have relatives in N.Korea. They told me that it was hard to celebrate Chuseok or Lunar New year knowing the poor conditions of their N. Korean families. Mr. KIM (he was 65 years old that tine) and I watched a documentary on KBS about Koreans meeting their families at the border. He cried so harf because he could remember his parents experienced that. Now, that the presidents of two koreas have decided to have peace talks, I really hope for a reunification. My comment is soooooo long...my apology!
I think economic cooperation between the two Koreas can expand businesses to the north and create jobs. Maybe South Koreans in the manufacturing industry can benefit from employment in the North also. I think if reunification is not the answer then meet in the middle. They can hold off on reunification and be friendly with an easy border comparable to the United States and Canada. We once fought a war against one another, but share a similar culture. The Koreans can possibly act in similar fashion as once the same people but now friends like US and Canada. Easy said but will take a lot of effort between the two sides.
actually south korean can travel some part of north korea before. but now it can not! because north korea killed South Korean Tourist! they are not normal country! and we invest north korea! but they made Nuke to kill us. how can we solve this?
@@soupit32 I think so a bit, but I can't agree with that. Just imagine that the United States is unified with Mexico and accepts all Mexicans. Isn't it terrible by think about? Still, Mexico's income is about 17% of the United States and only about 39% of the population, so it's not the worst of a unified Korea. North Korea's income is about 2% of South Korea and its population is about 50% of South Korea. This is a serious figure that goes beyond what the South Korean economy can withstand. Young people all over the world are politically progressive, of course, in South Korea. The propensity of most South Koreans in their twenties is liberal. Nevertheless, they do not want unification. Do you really not know what it means to have low support for unification in those 20s?
Please pray for the people of North Korea, and that the requested summit by May happens, and that the result is a favorable one that ends in freedom for ALL the Korean people!
But what if North Korea would somehow be able to get rid of Kim Jong Un and evolve into a democracy instead of a dictatorship. Would reunification still be needed? Or is that reunification just needed to achieve that democracy and freedom?
Mel W I was thinking that myself, but I doubt a democratic North Korea would have any chance becoming a relevant and wealthier country on its own, without any expert knowledge on how to manage the country's resources, or how to deal with increasing involvement with the East Asian and global market. New companies will have to be founded, the influence of foreign companies trying to exploit resources and workers has to be limited, people have to be educated accordingly to deal with their whole world suddenly being turned around and lots of other problems. There will have to be major involvement of expertise from South Korea and other East Asian countries, probably the rest of the world, for that to happen.
Dont forget that they are one people. It's like being seperated from your family. You dont necessarily need your family to survive, but you belong together.
I like you’re thinking - it’s out if the box! However, I only see one problem, and that is that the people basically worship Kim Jong Un. Ofc they will realise, once he’s gone, that he is not a saviour of any kind. But it will take time and I bet that there will be a split amongst the North Korean people. Some will want freedom and development, whilst others want to stay the way they are. Some will want a mixture of both. I think at this point, the South Korean government may need to intervene, but with caution and not invasion. If the South Korean government can guide North Koreans and advise them on how to develop their country, whilst offering them opportunities to visit South Korea (and vice versa), the people of both Koreas will begin to open up to each other. It only needs to take a couple of year for this initial process and after some time, however long that may be, they can finally reunify. I think the first, most important, step is for both countries’ citizens to be exposed to one another and to be offered opportunities to freely travel from one country to another, and to even live in each other’s countries. I bet a lot of South Koreans might want to buy properties in North Korea as it’ll be cheaper, and they could travel to the South with ease. It’s very possible if they think this through.
Thank you so much for this video! I feel very touched by the accounts of the very engaged young ladies. I sincerely hope that young South Koreans look beyond their own worries and be more compassionate towards their brethren and help tearing down this last border of the cold war.
Thank you Asian Boss. This was very insightful and informative. I haven't seen traditional U.S. news media providing us with quality materials like this.
I have a question for them too: since north Koreans seem to develop their sense of awareness towards everything is out there, is it possible to see in the future a revolution getting birth inside the country, perhaps with the help of defectors abroad? Let's hope for a reunification sooner or later 😊
Thank you once again for a great interview and topic. I only wish the best for these 3 brave and intelligent women. Its such a complicated and emotional topic. 😎🇨🇦
Only if North Korea were on a level with the other former communistic countries like Poland, Ukraine and Czech, it could be thinkable and possible. However, North Korea s lagged too much behind.
If reunification occurs, North Korea must be equal to South Korea first, it doesn't have to be completely equal at least the inequality between North and South is not severe and does not burden the South, for example let South Korean companies invest first in North Korea, increase the HR slowly, then remove the border. , this has many benefits to make Korea a big and rich natural resource from the north and rich in human resources from the south, but it must kill the kim dynasty first
I really don't understand why you guys don't have more views and subscribers...This stuff is so in-depth and honest.

Really poignant words:
[ Freedom isn’t something that was just given to us, but it was something be risked our life for. And it’s not like we asked to be born in North Korea. We just opened our eyes and we were there. We really didn’t have a choice in the matter, and we wanted freedom so badly that we risked it all to come here, but when people say “just go back”, I hear it as “just go back and die”. ]
Dont go to another persons country if you dont want to live by their rules...ALL of them escaped to China first....stay there!
@@MS-gr2nv You and I both know that doesn't apply here. China deports North Korean defectors back to North Korea, where they might have their entire families killed.
It's easy to talk all high and mighty about following rules, but let's be honest, you'd do the same thing if you knew you and your family were going to die.
When she said this it was so heartbreaking 😭
These girls are beautiful naturaly. I hope the dont contaminate with plastics

I agree. The comment: "why does it have to happen in our generation" was sad to hear and very selfish.
To be fair, the young South Koreans would be sacrificing more than a little of their wealth, to help bring North Koreans up to their standards. The actual cost of reunification is enormous.
RPG
Yeah, the gap between East and West Germany is still large even when the berlin wall had been destroyed 29 years ago.
A lot of people are skeptical if the two koreas are capable of reunification anymore considering how long they've been separated.
United Korea might even descend into another civil war if they don't reunite the two countries properly.
I was alive to see the two Germany's reunite on T.V., wouldn't it be something to see the two Koreas reunite.
20 more years
East Germany was much better off both economically and in terms of development than what the situation seems to be in North Korea.
But one can still hope, Korea will unite one day.

Cheryl lin thank you! I’ll definitely watch it
Thank you for sharing, i’ll watch this movie!
It's very sad that a beautiful country is divided by the interest of other countries and some people sick of power. It's a shame that the countries that supported that war and pushed them to fight never cared about the people who suffered the horror of the war and died, they don't even cared about their own soldiers. All that families destroyed, what a shame.
Or watch SK drama called “ Road Number One” It’s also so sad.

What's your take on the upcoming summit between North Korea and the United States?
Why am I killing my friends, my neighbors?"
Nearly a decade later I never forget this story, many things that are so horrible I can't imagine and this was one of them.
Its true majority people dont ask for suffering but evil always seem to find away.

Muhammad Arif I just think China wouldn't like North Korea to have other places to sell their resources to.
yui7star you just overestimated China’s influences over North Korea…
Well it's not possible for there to be reunification without taking down the NK authoritarian regime. So none of that matters.
Well it's not possible for there to be reunification without taking down the NK authoritarian regime. So none of that matters.
yui7star China is just a soso neighbor to NK.
What about Russia? If north and south did become one. It will be good for America, as they have a base in South Korea.
I don’t think China would care that much. Most of them fled to China before going to SK. If china want to intervene they probably won’t go through that easily. The real problem is China won’t let America has any nearby military base. I think if the US is not involved so much, China would be ok with it.
As a Chinese, I also hope that South and North Korea can be unified one day.
Chinese government never let Korea be reunified.
What would you say are the main differences between West and East that still remain in German society today?
- Linguistic differences, we still can not communicate completely free of misunderstandings
- there is still a significant wealth gap in between the old west and east parts
- the industrial efficiency of the east ranges still behind that of the west part
- we do often still look more at the differences in between us, instead if focusing on our common strengths, which is usually what people of separate countries do.
(In our case its was only 45 years.)
my POV:
- linguistic differences? thats not true. in every german state we have dialects, that has nothing to do with west and east germany. dialects came from the small kingdoms within germany
- there is a wealth gap because west germany shut down all of the factories in the east. so a lot of ppl couldnt work anymore
and right now the gap isnt even that big! a lot of west germans come to live in big cities in the east like berlin and dresden
to me the gap in north and south korea doesnt look any bigger than germany once had. the korean history is about 5000 years old, so they still have a lot of in common! germany never had such a long history as an unified country like korea does. so I think it is even easier to unify north and south.

I’ve noticed that all the North Koreans in your videos are so calm and soft spoken, whereas South Koreans are more loud and energetic.

I don't understand Korean self hate and kissing the asses of foreign culture and people. So ridiculous
I imagine this is conditioned to the American troops now stationed in South Korea leaving the country. Surely.
Maybe some fair minded chinese people think that way, but not the ones in power.
As a Chinese I don’t think so
朝鲜和韩国就是美国和中国的前锋 我们要稳定就只能让这个国家分裂
Great interview! These 3 ladies are very candid and intelligent. Hope to see them again in another interview.

If north Koreans themselves stand against Kim and demand a democracy then I see a bright future ahead. Because only then it would be the people who can decide if they want reunification or Not. Simple. But I can see how difficult it would be for north Koreans to stand against Kim.
i see only blood, but why democracy dont u know that they already have democracy
They simply just don't have the energy to revolt against him. They're starving and malnourished making it so that can't do anything serious. Not to mention only the rich kids and government officials get to stay in Pyongyang, any revolt elsewhere would most likely just result in the whole town being executed. They also have really no idea on what democracy is, that is unless the defectors were to return, ones educated on politics that is, and running the country.
it's not like we want to be born in north korea.
goddamit. i cried internally.
I think the phrase that the uncle of that woman in the middle said isn't that wrong "Always be grateful to North Korea, and be good while you are there." No matter where you are from, you can't erase your past because you are the byproduct of all the things you have gone through and the people you have met. The regime and dictator there sucks but the people don't, they are just like you or me. I don't know if you get my point. ;--;
It’s real meaning is a little bit different from subtitle. It’s not about her root or something, but it’s about north korea’s ideology.
I would hope nobody would think the people are “bad”.
I mean, it’s like seeing one mean person and saying the rest of the country they’re from is mean.
What an awful and untrue grave assumption to make
Makes no sense.
No matter where you go there will always be “good” and “bad” people.
The uncle said it in case the phone/room is taped.
Thanks to this channel I’ve learned so much about Asia, very informative, keep it going. Greetings from Mexico.
Great interview. It was very rational.
I wish AsianBoss would see this comment
North korea needs a new system and they need to improve their economy, living conditions and infrastructure . Only then can reunification be possible.
As long as Kim Jong Un is alive there is no reunification. The best we can ask for is subdued peace on the peninsula without its current war rhetoric.
ROKMC Rec. He has children. A boy too. He ordered his brother to be assassinated. If he wants anything from trump it is to lift the sanctions because they have no food, but he'll maintain the propaganda to his people. Kim Jong un dying will not change a thing
kien tran lol but Its not his nephew who will have power
kien tran yes we know
I agree, but who's keeping the Kim regime alive? It's the Chinese! They need to sow divide in the peninsula to continue taking advantage of N. Korea's cheap labor and abundant natural resources! China doesn't want a larger, stronger Korea!
Ikr people are crazy thinking there will be reunification while Kim Jong Un is alive lol
This video is so fn educational..lol. I learned so much. These women are also very smart.
They don't want unification with the Kim regime.
@@Whhhhhhhhhhhois dokdo korea or Japan?
Thanks for this. I take great interest in the videos where North Korean defectors get to speak their minds; it offers unique insights, a point of view missing from most media, especially here in the USA. Thanks for keeping us informed.
Hi Asian boss. Can you do the same episode on the China and Taiwan topic?
I don't think I'll ever be able to express how much I love and think your channel is important. Keep up the amazing job!
Aa D true, that is why the United States, maybe China or Japan, might help SK with more funding to help out the NK
I think what you're worried is a short term problem
Aa D
You said, "US created this environment." Can you elaborate on that?
You also said, "The US never helps anything without destroying first so it needs to be profitable to them to "rebuild" NK before economic reconstruction (think a green party idealization of Perestroika) can be started." The US didn't start the Korean War. After WW2, the US was already starting to help SK with all sorts of Aid, and the US didn't really wanted anything to do with SK. The US/UK/UN called for Free Elections in both NK and SK in 1947
It actually hurts to see how softly and carefully they speak… Such intelligent and courageous ladies.
As always, Asian 🇰🇷Boss provides informative videos...thank you from America!🇺🇸
I can't wait to see a single Korea on a map in my lifetime.
Thanks for the video, it's important to share these perspectives :)

I do wish to see that!!!! A fully one Korea that become itself free without influence of China and US😃
This video is amazing, everyone should watch this.
Even if north and south korea cant be reunited, i hope at least one day they can be good neighbor, and able to visit each other
It's not possible with the Kim family in charge.
That's what that lady said: "why aren't we one if we have a 5000 story together?"
Yes!
Easy said but will take a lot of effort between the two sides.
actually south korean can travel some

but now it can not!
because north korea killed South Korean Tourist!

Before admonishing them, just find out the reason they mind to unification. Why accuse South Koreans of not accepting 25 million poorest people?
@@theodorickim Money is nothing over love of your own people
@@soupit32 I think so a bit, but I can't agree with that.

Terry Mcginnis that too? I know you are being sarcastic..some answers do get "answers"and others ....yea
You dont necessarily need your family to survive, but you belong together.
eber thought about that north koreans dont want your fake ass western "democracy"?
It’s very possible if they think this through.
arktzen That's possible, too. I guess they'd be up for ideas for even better democracies, but you don't want to explain some of yours here, do you?
Thank you so much for this video! I feel very touched by the accounts of the very engaged young ladies. I sincerely hope that young South Koreans look beyond their own worries and be more compassionate towards their brethren and help tearing down this last border of the cold war.
It’s sad looking a nation with thousands of history and literally the same people getting divided...
Same 😎🇺🇸
These women are heroes.
Only if North Korea were on a level with the other former communistic countries like Poland, Ukraine and Czech, it could be thinkable and possible.
However, North Korea s lagged too much behind.
sxm sed Ukraine? You kidding right? Ukraine is almost as poor as North Korea.

동유럽 정도의 국가만 되어도라고..(사회가.. 돈이 아니라..)
I am from the Philippines and i support for the unification of Korea.
