    I am really impressed with the new welding camera. I didn't think such clarity could be seen on a (relatively) quick setup. The contrast ratios are great, and it's really neat to watch the puddle follow Hunter. The MIG section also showed how awful that splattering was =) Even as a home gamer I think I would be a little frustrated with the mess. I'd have no idea what sort of settings to turn down so it wasn't so explosive.

    The arc shots always interest me. Very educational about the physics actually happening.

      We love the camera too! We're still learning how to optimize this bad boy, so it'll only get better! Feels like I've been driving a Prius and have just been tossed the keys to a Ferrari - Walker

    You guys are fucking awesome. I really enjoy your content and as an elderly man that did welding in shop class (way back in the 70's) it puts a smile on my face to see your generation doing the trades. Probably won't be on the work shelf but not a bad unit. Stay safe.

    VRD(voltage reduction device)is an open circuit voltage setting to prevent severely dying.

      +1. I think the EU pushed this first? Especially for dangerous environments. I'd never heard of it until I got an HTP/Stel 221DV over a decade ago. HTP didn't even mention VRD in the manual at the time. Drops it from like 60+ Vdc to like the high teens or less.

    I'm just learning, late in life, and having an all in one that fits into my limited space could be my best solution. Thank you for the demo/test run!

    The camera system rocks, it was nice seeing the close-up shots. The welder on the other hand even for the 650 i think you would be better off with a pair of cheep machines designed to do less if you are on that tight of a budget. Prioritize the work you need to do the most and pick a machine for that!

    I am with Hunter I have a mig. And I am looking for a stick welder. No gas to hall around . And the plasma cutter saves on cutoff disks. And band saw plads.

    You can't just set your voltage and hope for the best with your wire feed speed. If you're getting a lot of spatter, adjust the wire feed speed, gun angle and inclination. Maybe even check your gas flow rate.
    If you're running straight C02, that will also create more spatter if your setting aren't perfect.
    If your inductance is cranked all the way up, and you're running fairly high wire speed, that will also create spatter. Inductance allows you to run at fairly low wire speed while maintaining a stable arc. You will also get excessive spatter if the inductance is too low.
    Higher inductance can also give you the tig like appearance, like a "stack of dimes".
    I wouldn't write that machine off right away, fine tune your settings, find out if it runs better with straight C02 or C25, and play with your Inductance settings along with your wire feed speed.
    The thing with new inverter Machines, they're all tuned slightly differently from the manufacturer. I would bet it's actually a fairly decent machine once you tune it right.

      First thing I would've tried is to drop the voltage. Was there no settings chart?

    The camera showed the arc and travel very well, but not the puddle. Was the arc masking the show of the puddle? Or did you see something I missed?

    • @LiftArcStudios
      @LiftArcStudios  День назад +1

      We're still learning the optimal settings to get the footage to show the arc and the puddle, there's a ton more variables in recording that we have to consider now. The angle of the shot, the aperture of the lens, the gain correction, the brightness of the light, etc etc. Once we get it truly dialed in you should be able to see the puddle in all of it's glory! If we're doing it right...

    650 for getting into it or just for the occasional hotmelt around the home shop: not bad. For some young guy getting into the trades and earning his money for his first "better" machine: fantastic. Would I buy it? No. But only because I am dumb enough to spend 4 grand on a machine "just for the lols". And my my wife lets me do it (Not without yelling!). The camera gear: awesome. These might be the crispiest weld shots I have ever seen on YT university. And I recon, with more tweaking, you could get even crispier images.

    Love this channel and content, but this vid has some of the worst editing I’ve seen here. I was actually getting motion sickness, never mind my intense frustration with the choppy quick cuts making it nearly impossible to appreciate the process. No more cocaine in the edit room.

    • @LiftArcStudios
      @LiftArcStudios  День назад +2

      So to peel back the curtain a little bit, balancing the overall length of the video (the original version of this was about an hour and a half) while trying to explain / show a lot of different things and keep things moving can get tricky and I definitely won't always hit the mark! But I'll try to be a little less heavy handed in the edit next time :) sometimes when you are trying to "trim the fat" you end up getting making the viewing experience a little less enjoyable. Sorry you had trouble enjoying this one! That's on me - Walker
