A Calif. Zephyr in Ft. Morgan on 05OCT2024

- This California Zephyr #5 arrived in Fort Morgan at 0613 MDT (28 min. late due to freight interference east of Brush). P42s #45 & #78 brought the typical 8-car train to a stop with car 7 to the station platform for 2 new passengers. There were no detraining passengers today.
With the station work safely completed, the high ball was given and on a clear signal the Zephyr rolled west toward its next stop at Denver's Union Station.
My thanks to the operating crew for the greetings this morning.

Good morning, David; Thank you fir stopping by along with the comments. The trike is under wraps right now. If the weather continues as predicted, it will be back on Monday. When the Zephyr gets too late, the traffic pattern is such I don't want to get involved in it with the trike. No matter how much reflecto I wear and lights on the trike there are, someone wants to run me over. I just don't understand that thought process if there is one.
Anyway, keep a hose handy today. Looks like we get more fire weather tomorrow.

I think we will have another day of Fire Weather tomorrow based on what the forecast is. Not good. No ready supply of water for the rural firefighters to draw from right now.

Good morning Mike. Nice video this morning. The red sky was beautiful. Little late this morning, watching the balloons this morning. Had a pretty nice morning to fly. Early they were worried about the wind. It sun rise the wind settles down, and the filled the sky. Big crowds. You have a great day and be safe.

Hi Mike, while you have a fire warning we have an excessive heat advisory for temps above 100 Saturday and Sunday. My sweetheart Ginny and I are planning a trip to the beach next week to escape the heat and take grand daughter Charlotte to see the ocean for the first time, she is 17 months old.
The Pacific Ocean is less a two hour drive and temps can be 30 to 40 degrees less than here, just 75 miles away. Will mostly likely overcast and in the mid 60's.
Or if we want to go to the mountains, Donner Lake and Truckee are 3 hours away, about 165 miles.
So we have a couple of options to escape the heat.
I guess for you a trip to Denver would get you to a cooler place?
Anyway, interesting to learn how the weather varies around the country.

Good morning, Ted; I thank you for dialing in along with the comments. We have relatives in the Sacrament area and do monitor the weather there. You all need a break in that heat dome out there. The run to a beach and the ocean sounds nice. Do I bring my SCUBA gear of just a beach towel to sit on? 😂😂 Either direction shore or mountains sounds wonderful.
Denver is only 80 mikes and today they are getting the same weather as we have out here on the plains. Very low humidity, elevated (near record or above) temperatures, and winds.
As for here this time of year, I just wait for sunset and then open up the windows to let the cool air thru. Traffic to the mountains is three lanes or more al jammed together and lots of road rage. I don't need that. There was a major crash between Greeley and Loveland yesterday morning at I-25 and US 34 that had traffic in amess for more than 5 hours. Too many other idiots out there all wanting to drive 100 mph on 2-lane highway and then take over a lane as it widens into 4 lanes with at least 2 being turn lanes. No common sense left along the front range. Must n=be from So-Call. LOL!
Anyway, I hope that you enjoy the weekend with the granddaughter. What fun that must be.

Yeah Mike it looks like it's just going to be another nice day out. It's finally getting to about 70° back here but it's supposed to be about maybe upper 70s 80 in the suburbs. Other than that you know it looks just like another nice day. I hear the workers and their music radio in the background. Have a great day out there.
Good morning, Robert; Thank you for dropping by along with the comments. We just went thru 76 F. and winds at 23 mph gusting to 30 at 1015 MDT. Plenty of junk in the air column today. Air Quality Index is 54 or moderate right now. Yep. the day crew was arriving at Mid-West Steel Fabricators as the Zephyr arrived. They were moving a lot of material around in preparation for a lot of welding today. They may be working tomorrow as well. At least they weren't singing over there this morning. LOL! The music lesson money went for a lot of Modelo cervesa. LOL!

Good morning Mike from 72 going to 90 in Yukon Oklahoma. Those fabricators sure get an early start don't they. Lots of cutting, welding plus backup beeps on fork lift ???. It's gonna be a hot one here on the plains today.
Good morning, Ben; I thank you for stopping by as well as the comments. They were working all night, and the day crew was just coming in as the Zephyr got here today. I have a feeling they will be working tomorrow as well. The night crew is working 6 days a week over there. They were moving a lot of material around setting up the day crew, I think.
It sounds as though we will both experience the same temperatures today. I am sending a lot of Wyoming, Nebraska, and Kansas you direction via the winds.

Good morning, Eolafan; Thank you for dialing in along with the comments. This is single track railroading at its "finest" out here on the BNSF Brush Sub. The other track you see is a 10-mph siding seldom used but is for "runarounds". There was talk of double tracking but that went away with the slowdown of coal hauling on this sub.
