We have been spoiled by the warm temperatures of late. I'm dressing for what is to hit here next week. maybe fall will arrive over a month late. LOL! They are still on the road as I write this. At least 5 hours from the depot to where they are headed. That party boarding is going for the weekend. Looked as though they were ready to play when they get there. I agree. The Huskers do have their hands full today. I hope they show up for the game today. Good morning; Timothy; Thank you for dialing in and the comments. I don't keep records of that as far as passenger loading. It changes in Denver where they add another car headed for Glenwood Springs and drop that car at Grand Junction where #6 picks it up for the return to Denver. It usually has nearly a full load from what I understand. The Zephyr is exceeding the pre-COVID passenger loading. More and more are finding the train a more relaxing mode of travel. No sardine packing style into a vehicle made of used beer cans, drivers too busy with their cell phones to watch where they are driving, of weather hazards to contend with. Yep. I'm sold! Fall weather seems to be running over a month late out here. We may see cooler temps and a threat of moisture from the shy next week. They are making snow in the high country and a couple ski resorts will have runs open mid-November or sooner. I hope that you have a great Saturday back there. Please take care and stay safe!

It took about 2 hours of raking and shoveling into the Dumpster bin yesterday. Still a lot of pears on the tree. May try to pick what can be picked and make breads and cobblers with them. I have decided to revert to a flip phone of the "dumb" type to go along with the dummy trying to use it. LOL! That won't happen for a while, but it is coming. I watched Marne's video of #6. That is the second time I have seen them try to unlock the lift shed. All other times the ramp has been used including that bright yellow thing. There are two locks, and they only have to open one to unlock the rollup door. It appeared that Mandy tried both locks with different keys. A cutting torch would have been of more use. LOL! Good morning, Mark; Thanks for dropping by and the comments. We are at 38 here at 0840 MDT. Mix of sun and clouds today. I have noted they are bringing the train deeper into the platform over the past several days. Makes it nicer for the new fares. The Amish had a longer walk to the bus taking them north. I noticed afterward the driver was having to air up the right front tire to make it out of town. Doesn't make any difference in what they are driving it is still another 5 hours to the north for them. The rest of the day should be ok. I don't think the men of corn stand a chance against OSU today, but I will watch and root for the Huskers. I do have my ammo ready to throw at the TV on the bad calls. Good evening, Robert; Thanks for dialing in and the comments. I can't blame him. I drove 1 & 1/2 hours to the town of Ault just to get these few seconds of video. It was the 3dr time I've done this. I also drove 7.5 hours to Fairbury to see it park there for an overnight stay. I stayed with relatives and then watched it go down the mail line to Kansas City followed by the 7.5- hour drive back to Ft. Morgan. Go figure. The biggest part of that run was the 107 F degree heat I drove home in. Have a great evening back there. Plese take care and stay safe!

Good afternoon, Robert; I thank you for dialing in along with the comments. Yep. The feel loke temp had me using a pair of hand warmers in my mittens. I don't leave home without them anymore. I agree about the getting more seasonal. I'm trying to shove some of this your way, but the jet stream has its own ideas. Those Zephyr crew are getting the pattern down as they don't have to fight all the slow orders found with the track work during the summer months. The weather changes in the jet stream and all have prevented that this year. Snow has happened in the high country and the ski resorts are making snow as well. We may see more seasonal temperatures and maybe moisture next week. The wind did bring down a lot of leaves and pears yesterday. Our Ash tree has turned golden with the leaves yet there are still some green ones hanging on. No snow here on the flat lands predicted thru the middle of November. Strong winds yesterday cleared about 50% of the pears out of the tree in the back yard. Gotta get out there and clean up some of them so we can safely walk around. Our ash tree has also dropped a lot of leaves with the high winds yesterday. If that second pax didn't show in Denver, that person may be after a refund on the seat. Too bad. Way too much wind here yesterday brought down about half of the pears from our pear tree. Have to get them cleaned up to make it safe to go thru the back yard. Now you understand why I did not care for HGTV and that Hometown Makeover crew being here. That sign is only seen by locals and some longer distance drivers as well as the "Bull-shippers" bringing the steers to Cargill's slaughterhouse. Good morning, DirtyLil-Hobo; I thank you for dialing in and the comments. I enjoy hearing from those who worked over these rails. One of the first viewers I had was based in Sterling. He also worked AMTRAK thru here. I have seen coal drags stuck in sidings for long periods of time at several sidings across the Brush Sub. I have also listened to dispatch trying to keep everything liquid out here as well. That is the one position I would not want with BNSF. Or any other Class 1 railroad. I did apply to BN (at that time), UP, and AMTRAK when I retired from the US Navy in the early 90s. UP and AMTRAK sent the form letter back with the infamous "Don't call us. Good evening, Barley150; Thak you for looking in and the comment/question. I can never grow tired of steam locomotives. I have seen the "big Boy" several times in person. It is always impressive. Union Pacific also has the 4-8-4 #844. Although I have seen it up close and personal a time or two, I would like to watch it again polish the system rails. The numbers you hear me say are the locomotive numbers leading the Zephyrs. It is a way for me to remember which ones I saw as I write up a description of the video. The next car behind the engines is a dedicated baggage car. It can be accessed by the conductor via a door on the ends of the car from the next car back known as a dorm/office/transition/sleeper. That car is used by the train staff (car attendants as sleeping quarters during the run). The conductors also do their paperwork there and several roomettes are available for paying passengers. It has eased off a bit now. we are slated to go below freezing overnight. This is the first freeze alert of the season. I've been spoiled by the abnormal temperatures and am unsure how to dress for the changeable weather. May have to put on my parka and mittens tomorrow morning. But I could deal with some snow. We will see a bit of rosy color in the eastern sky for a few days then slide back into darkness. Then it starts getting a bit lighter in a month or so as we start shortening the darkness by a minute or two every day. I have used that line on the channel a few times. Some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time. But never all of the people all of the time. Then again, the CPOs were supposed to be that gruff. It's nice to have him back on this section. 3985 is in the old RI Silvis Illinois shops for its restoration. They got an entire hospital tri from the Cheyenne roundhouse as a donation with the understanding that 3985 would be restored to operating conditions. The same outfit is in charge of operating #261 (#??) I knew them as NorthStar but that may be wrong too. Anyway that 4-8-4 is under the same roof in operable condition. The tender that was sent back with 3985 is actually the tender for 4014. A nice tidbit. Anyway, have a great afternoon and evening. Plese take care and stay safe!

Good morning, Robert; Thank you for dialing in as well as the comments. You are correct in that the4014 was in the Chicago area about a month ago as part of the Heartland tour on the UP. Neither of the Union Pacific steam locomotives will diverge onto foreign railroads. It is amazing the planning that goes into the tours they make. Canadian Pacific has the "Holiday Train" that is run across the CPKC system every year. I would like to visit that train of an evening on its tour. I am fortunate to be at a reasonable driving distance to the UP mainline in Nebraska and the main from Cheyenne to Denver. Cheyenne is about 2 hour drive time from here if the state patrol goes for coffee. LOL! I have driven several fellow vets to the VA Hospital there over the past several years. IRM is another place I would like to visit to see the Shea in operation. It is just as busy as the 4014 when in operation. Have a great afternoon and evening back there.
