Thank you for the anecdote, Paul. You should have gotten the child's name. After all, the Boxer is a masterpiece and if it's this kid's favorite song, he may have music flowing through him the same way it does for you Paul.... which is extremely rare. The Boxer is my favorite song of all time and Paul is a living legend. He was born a master and has shared his gift with us over many decades. I don't think we'll ever see a musician like Paul ever again. Music doesn't get any better than this and that's a fact. Two things I find incredible about this song and about Paul; are that he wrote this song very early in his career. If one were to watch/listen to EVERY recorded performance of The Boxer, one may notice that every one of them is an original, which is almost beyond belief. Thank you again, Paul.
Mid-Song "I have to tell you something" XD Amazing. So down to earth and far superior to most singers today. Paul Simon will always be my favorite artist, singer, songwriter, guitarist and inspiration.
When he said "I was walking down..." I was expecting him to say "I was walking down the street when I heard this voice say 'Say, ain't we walking down the same street together on the the very same day!'" 😄 But seriously, wouldn't it have been cool to have met Paul Simon while walking down the street with my toddler. I too would have told him that he was my son's favourite singer, but my son's favourite song would have been Gumboots or Graceland or maybe Boy in the Bubble.
Wow, Wow, Wow..!! He was my mom's generation but I always listened to her records and as a song writer singer myself still find inspiration from amazing artists who paved the way like Paul! Thanks for posting.. you've spread a little sunshine..
Researched Mr. Simon's 2017 set lists, and finding it difficult to believe that the Trump Clusterfukk has not inspired him to perform "American Tune," above all selections. If America were to compose and pen music and lyrics of the autobiographical kind, this song would be HER song... ,,,THE song.Nothing more appropriate for the 9/11 tributes, back then -- and, nothing more telling and appropriate now, for a country taken hostage by Trump and his merry band of fat cat, racist, sectarian, misogynist, planet-destroying hoodlums. "American Tune" -- more relevant, timely and prophetic than ever. Beautiful stuff, Mr. Simon.
