    I feel so validated about y'all opinions on Ky's shock state, shock state is quite a bit stronger now and Ky players didn't really care about it prior to this patch, but now he NEEDS it to do both his real combos compared to what he used to do when foudre arc could combo AND his new shock state enabled set play with the + a bajillions frames Shock State CSE gives now.
    Like the shock state times are super whack. How long shock state lasts is both different on the move that applies shock state and whether it was on hit or not. For reference:
    180 frames (3 seconds) : Stun Edge/Air Stun Edge on hit/block, Dire Eclat on block
    300 frames (5 seconds) : Charge Stun Edge on hit/block, Dire Eclat on Hit, Sacred Edge
    Stun edge is so bad at applying shock state, you can apply shock state via stun edge, grab someone, do CSE, and shock state will have run out before CSE lands (no CSE + frames, no new setplay).
    Mortabato DI: Like most Ky players really really dislike how almost all Ky balance changes end up with "Buff DI". I think DI is in a good state now - it is a desperation super that is plus on block. I don't want to see Ky DI-ing every game, it should be a situational super.

      As a Ky player the only thing I want now is sauce (and a little buff to SS)
      DI can give you more style, however it is pretty situational
      My proposed solution to this problem is:
      -DI has less recovery (25->20)
      -Less gravity scaling, so you can reliably use it in combos (it is already possible to combo into and out of it, but it's not really consistent)
      Outside of DI buffs I'd probably increase SS duration by like 1 second for every move that applies it. Also, the fact that SS does litteraly nothing to SD is awful. There's no real reason at the moment to spend SS on SD. Giving it HKD is probably too much, so I would genuinely just make it so 2nd hit doesn't consume SS at all

    Respect for keeping calm and open-minded presenting your hard work to LK and having most feedback be either "okay next" or "CAP" lol. For real though his honest and thoughtful opinions are a great addition to this video, even if he has terminal competitor brain. Air Winger would be neat bro it's okay if it doesn't make her stronger!!
    Anyway it's cool to see someone actually making an earnest effort of showing how they'd go about trying to improve the game. IMO this list errs too much on safety -- a bit too heavy on sanding down a characters strengths and weaknesses both, or just making them how they used to be. Gotta give respect for the ambition on the Anji rework, though.

    ch 5p already combos into snail. i actually really like what they did in the current patch where they reintroduced some situational combo ability back to rainwater without making it overcentralizing. i do think they could go a little bit further with his consistency issues (buff 6h, make tornado's grounded launch a teeny tiny bit better). sickle storm sucks a lot now outside of being exclusively a reversal so it'd be cool if they made it hit a lot more to cut through guts idk
    i think with more nerfs to some of the ridiculous shit axl might be good. i think he's very "eh" right now but he's workable

    re: DS input, ive played around w/a mod that changes it to down + burst. eliminates the wakeup buffering issue and makes it auto-crosscut, which removes the OS while keeping it useful against left/right in a more controlled way

    As somebody who recently dropped the character as well, LK is definitely spittin about Millia. Completely anticipate Arcsys to give a tone-deaf win-more j.H level 3 because it's heavily represented in her offense. The reason why Air OK Winger falls flat to me is that she has a meter penalty for existing in Strive. Sometimes routing in the air will give my opponent more resources than I gain. Even if I get the Winger knockdown -- which just like season 2 most millias are not actually opting for -- I very likely won't have the meter to badmoon 50/50 them. So really, unless you're killing them off of that air combo itself, it's not gonna see like any use. After BWA wallbreak died, she went right back to fighting the system with routing/resetting/wallbreaking. The changes listed in the notes all sound exciting and I hope Arcsys can at least look at this as a thought experiment to try and examine character problems with more nuance instead of just giving them new broken tools and then ignoring us for half a year.

    My only wish is for dizzy to get an arial version of roasting chestnuts or for ice freeze to work through pot's armor.
    Having only grounded specials when pot can full screen slide head with armor... This feels like an insane matchup.
    Edit: To be clear, I don't need advice in the Pot matchup. I beat Pot players all the time. I know the matchup better than anyone. It's just, hopping around unable to use special moves isn't exactly my idea of a fun game. Both Dizzy and Asuka matchups against Pot need serious tuning. If we had a little more counterplay in that one matchup, this season would be my dream patch.

      There's like a few soft buffs I would go for like better round start options with an 11f f.S and fixing some hitbox/hurtboxes with 6P, 5H(3), 2H, and 5D.
      And then there's the insane buffs I want because I want the privilege that the top tier characters always get. Make CH S Michael Sword HKD, and H Michael Sword and 2H armored, and Wings of Light super fast so we can use it like Blazblue Tsubaki charge cancels.

      Ah yes, how dumb of me... I can just * checks notes * not use any of my special moves.
      My issue is that Layer 1 of the matchup is literally the dumbest possible nuetral in the history of Strive. Yes, f.s is great at stopping hammer fall, but that doesn't even begin to replace her entire kit of special moves.
      Her entire Layer 1 strategy against pot is nuetral jumping at full screen like a gd idiot, or running in with normals. Is it too much to ask to have a single special move to zone a grappler with? Why does my squishy zoner have to rush down the highest health and damage character in the entire game?
      Slide head, hammer fall, heat tackle, and mega fist invalidate every special move in her kit. And that's not even mentioning flick... I'm asking for a single nuetral interaction that can go in her favor.

    Most Axl players will point to 6H and Rensen 2 as moves that need to be improved. Also Snail being -24 on block while stuff like Mist Finer,Arbiter Sign and Michael Sword are in the -8 to -15 range.

      Whether it's official or unofficial patches, favouritism always was and will be a factor in arcsys games. You can see it with changes like this and then others like Pot getting an actual 2 page of redesign.

      @macanudo6206 people complain about axl being bad too, as he is a low tier. and his entire kit is built around being far away with full screen moves that don’t matter if they are unsafe on block or not. It doesn’t matter when he’s minus if you can’t hit him after blocking it. But when every special ram has that is melee range is not safe on block she would literally just become a boring ass zoner like axl, only pressing far slash from max range and nothing else. Safe block pressure is extremely important to her character as a whole unlike axl.
      Also, nearly every “other strength” that ram has is from safe one block pressure. If you could mash on every special she has she would quite literally be bottom one. Now they didn’t actually say in the video to make EVERY special move unsafe on block, but if that was the case then like I said she would be bottom 1. No amount of spacing can save a character if they can’t perform pressure whatsoever, with how many neutral skips are in this game.

    I like LKs POV. Characters need to be balanced, aggressively, before we do things like change how archetypes are shaped.
    This game would be better already if lightweights had more hp and maybe keep 90% of their damage and everyone else gets a 30% damage nerf.
    That’s a super flat and basic way of going about it but it’s low effort and a start.
    People have been saying offense is extremely strong for 4 years and the damage is extremely high and they keep saying “the flow of the game is too volatile making players unsatisfied, so we gave ram more pressure, damage, and guard crush. And we buffed goldlewis and leo”

    Edit: It keeps its old frame data very slow mid that moves forward, +1 on block, and cancelable from close S but he can only cancel back into close slash if it catches a low on start-up. It can be thrown or beaten by a mid on reaction and neutral jump into jump in if predicted. This would be synergistic with the spin can be beaten by lows nerf.

    I'll give my two cents on this Community Balance Patch, and I'll talk about Potemkin.
    There's a mechanic that I hate and that's guard crush, but, if you remove it from the game, Garuda Impact and most of Potemkin's threat should be reworked because that without guard crush, and the meter gain from PB, he'll be dead weight.
    Although Arcsys buffed many tools from Potemkin's kit when they realized that only Garuda wasn't enough to make the character viable, despite it being an horrible mechanic overall.
    So either guard crush stay but is removed from Wild Assault and no nerf to Pot's meter gain, or remove Guard Crush but he'll have to have something really good to take Garuda's place, I hate this move but him is built around it's guard crushing properties in order to mix the opponent up.

    do something with bedman 2s to differentiate it from f.s cuz rn its a worse low than 2d in neutral, is completely negligible in pressure, and is worse than f.s in combos due to c.s properties, all while having similar frame data and neutral reward to f.s. one of the few truly dead moves in the game methinks

      The first song is from the album Sumo Jungle. It's by the guy who did the Ape Escape music. I'm on mobile rn but it's like the first or second track so shouldn't be too hard to find. The second track is from Persona 4 and it plays when you're walking around the town at daytime. I'd look up the name but I'm actually in the middle of my first playthrough right now and don't wanna risk music spoilers. Sorry I couldn't give you exact track names lol

    I'm with LK on overdrive RC and DP RC, that's some of the shit that makes Guilty Gear unique and they've both got counterplay if you hard read them
    not being able to RC a DP on whiff is already perfect (though getting mix out of DP RC is broken as fuck, something else could be done to make that worse, like nerfing those DPs hitboxes so they're easier to bait)

    No one in the game has resource that can only be earned again through a super. Johnny shouldnt have one either. U dont get that much from spamming deal into mist finer.

      I think the point is, they use that super in a lot of routes anyway so it’s not a huge deal, just adds more dynamism to the rest of his kit because at the moment he‘s a little flowcharty for the type of character he is.

I can totally understand the loops being overpowered and I'm an Axl main. the thing is the rainwater rps on block helped Axl in opening up his opponent especially in leveling the playing field some what in some of his worst matchups.

    I cannot believe that out of all of these whack ass patch notes, these two really looked at Bedman and went “yep, he’s staying EXACTLY the same” while having that “unfun/difficult to play” tier on the list including it. The furniture is still bugged (head bomb doesn’t travel vertically at all, even though patch notes said it would), it’s still significantly struggling in most of its MUs and has generally been one of the weakest characters in the game since launch. If the goal of the patch was to take characters down to its level, then sure, but they don’t come even close to that.

    I know this vid was before the emergency patch, but frfr I think they shouldn't have done it. I think it set a HORRIBLE precident and completely undermines their creative direction. I do think they could've revisited some of this stuff in a later, PLANNED patch. however, them doing an "emergency patch" b/c ppl were complaining about it just conditions the community to complain about shit whenever they don't like it.
    and frfr, I also think that them adding the kara shit back was a mistake too, for the same reason. sometimes games change shit and it is what it is. I think that the game's direction will be vastly different from what it could've been, b/c they'll no longer be as willing to make such bold and interesting changes, and that hurts the long term health of this game imo.
    notice that I didn't say explicitly what they should or shouldn't have changed, b/c tbh I'm *not* the game/battle designer, and I don't know what stuff they had planned that we didn't know about. but now we'll never know what kinda cool and fun stuff they would've done in the future.
    *that version of the game* is dead, for better or worst.

      Nah, while I complained endlessly about Kara being back on Potemkin, the patch did need to happen because it was fundamentally against their sole goal of the patch.
      They patched it because they themselves didn't believe in it

      @@HellecticMojo if they didn't believe in it, they wouldn't have released it, announced a delay, and apologized or whatever. what reason, or evidence, do we have that they weren't sure about the changes they took the time to implement, and then release?
      them changing it *does* reinforce that they were "unsure" about some things, and that's silly imo. game design in general isn't some fly by night bs. it takes MONTHS (but more likely YEARS) of planning, and even more time spent testing. any time you finagle with game stuff, there's the potential to break stuff, and fixing that stuff is not free. I don't think they intended to do this at all.
      this wasn't like some baby patch where they change a couple of frames here and there. this was a radical evolution of the current game, that was likely laying the groundwork for future changes, which includes other characters, as well as other changes to the already existing roster. this could've easily been called strive xx accent core plus or whatever lol. if they failed at anything, it was the ability to communicate what they were doing and why they did it, to better prepare the players for these changes.
      but it's whatever at this point. the damage has been done, and the game that this will end as isn't the one we *might've* gotten, which is a shame imo. especially since after the hotfix players are ***still*** not happy.

      @@Hotashi I'm not saying every change was perfect. what I'm saying is that them doing the changes, especially they way they did it, wasn't a good look for the future of the game.
      I don't know enough about this stuff to say what should or shouldn't be changed, and that's why I'm not talking about that stuff. it's just reflective of a trend I'm seeing across games lately that feels like "design by committee" and I personally don't like it.

      @@salinalunara What evidence that they weren't sure? That they reverted many changes that quickly is the evidence. If they were truly making decisions from the ground up, it would've taken them long as you imagined, but it didn't.
      They were obviously weighing options beforehand and when option A didn't work out, they immediately swapped to option B because option B was still something they had in the back burner.

    I'd bet if Hotashi picked up Sin he wouldn't even be able to win a weekly tournament, let alone top 8 a major. yet he says he's a free top 8. i think patachu is the only Sin I've seen with any success in the competitive scene. i'm not saying he doesn't need to be changed, but i think people underestimate how exploitable his flaws are. hotashi pick him up and prove me wrong.

      I feel like not many top players understand sin. They just see 80% dmg against elphelt and lose it. I'd say just nerf damage like 12% and hes completely fine.
