Eddie was lead for the first couple of Temptations' hits, until 1965 when David was introduced on "My Girl". One song that displayed Eddie's falsetto was 'The Girl's Alright With Me", by the Temptations.
LOL, when I first played this song for my wife, she was so confused... because she knew it was an older song, but she thought he was saying "Internet Friends", not Intimate Friends. She was like, "They didn't have the internet back then! How did he know?" LOL. 😅🤣
You guys gotta hear him do "Trust Your Heart"......"Shoeshine Boy"....and "Keep On Truckin' ." These songs really showcase his Beautiful "Falsetto" voice.
To be young once more and listening to Eddie Hendricks singing "SKIPPING WORK TODAY"! Always brings back memories of my husband who st the time felt any excuse would do to take off from work!. R.I.P. EV.
"Standing On The Top" by The Temptations feat. Rick James. Y'all should listen to the longer album version, but the music video does have some cool dance moves though. It also comes from the only album where The Temps has 7 members instead of 5. Also try another solo Temptation song "Don't Look Any Further" by Dennis Edwards & Siedah Garrett. You might have heard the bassline as it's been sampled a lot. That track was originally recorded as a duet by Jermaine Jackson & Whitney Houston, but their version was never released, still to this day.
Thanks guys for getting around to this beautiful quiet storm classic . Here's some more suggestions for Eddie Kendrick's Girl You Need A Change Of Mind (1973) Keep On Truckin (1973) Boogie Down (1974) Shoe Shine Boy (1975) Happy (1975) He Is A Friend Of Mine (1976) Skippin Work Today (1977) Continue to R.I.P Mr Eddie Kendrick's ❤. Thanks again Jay and Amber
My grandson's paternal Great Grandmother was Eddie Kendricks cousin. They grew up together in the Birmingham area. Birmingham, AL has a great memorial to the Temptations that I recommend visitors see.
Actually, Eddie was a lead singer before David joined the group. After he did, they took turns (depending on whom Smokey Robinson, and later, Norman Whitfield, decided they wanted to lead a particular song). After David was fired, Dennis Edwards replaced him as a lead singer.
Hey guys this Jay from New Jersey. Checkout this uptempo 80's song by Joe Jackson ( not related to the Jackson family) called Steppin' Out. I think you'll like it. Peace!
This song was big on the R&B charts, but Eddie's massive impact was with his two hits in late 1973 and early 1974: "Keep On Truckin'," which went all the way to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and "Boogie Down," which got all the way to #2. He also had a Top 20 hit (#18) with "Shoeshine Boy." Kendricks later joined with friend and former Temptations lead singer David Ruffin for a reunion tour with Hall & Oates in the 1980s.
Guys Eddie sang with the group The Temptations went solo had good success with songs like Boogie Down and his number one R&B and pop song Keep on truckin'. sadly Eddie passed away in October 1992 at the age of 52 keep up the great work guys.
Gr8 explanation of why Jay gets into the Bass so much. And a recommendation for the future: *Isn't It Time* from, The Babys It's not related to this song, but U also might see (or hear) someone you might recognize, in the group. TLDR: Hint, You guys seem to do 1 song with him every year! But you never realize you've seen/heard him b4. (Usually with a different Band & different look) So you always hit the "New Artist" bell. And he's practically a baby in this old, 70s Rock Hit.
I met Eddie Kendricks when I was a kid here in Birmingham I'll never forget the day he was in our kitchen & my mom was trying to tell me who he was I was like uuuuuh ok 🤣 🤣
Love the reaction. I know you guys love areosmith and I suggest you get back into them especially there stuff from the 70’s I think the song Movin’ Out would be the perfect start!
You HAVE to listen to "If I Could" by "1927" if you haven't yet. They have some other really good songs too. "Compulsory Hero" is another MUST of theirs. So deep and hits hard in the feels, Australian band and that ones about the war draft. The lyrics are so meaningful in their music. Also "That's When I Think Of You". 3 songs I'll always love through and through.
Jay and Amber, I'd love for you to react to Eddie Kendricks "Girl You Need a Change If Mind." There's lots of kick-ass piano and horns! It made us lose our minds on the disco dancefloors.
I never expected to hear this song on your program. Eddie Kendricks is one of the greatest and this song is a classic. Please react to more. Keep On Truckin' Boogie Down, Shoeshine Boy, Skipping Work.
Eddie Kendricks had 2 big solo hits in 1973/74 after he left The Temptations. 'Keep on Truckin' and 'Boogie Down'. Great singer as were all members of The Temptations.
Yeah...a new soulful artist..sort of. Eddie Kendricks left the Temptations and went solo. I never heard this song before. You have to react to his bigger hits like "Boogie Down", "Shoeshine Boy" & the #1 "Keep On Truckin'" all great tunes. Thanks.
Okay Jay... just for you, there is a youtube video of 100 Top Hits written by the Bee Gees and it would shock you just what songs they actually wrote!! Including many other artists you both love as well.
Other nice jams by Eddie Kendricks: "Each Day I Cry a Little," "Come Get the Cream Off the Top," "Boogie Down," "Come Back Home," and as lead singer with the Temptations, "Please Return Your Love to Me," "You're My Everything," and with the Temptations and the Supremes (Eddie and Diana Ross duet), "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me."
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. I've never heard this, and I would probably have never found it on my own. It was so sexy that it brought tears to my eyes. SO GOOD>
I want to suggest a double feature next: two unrelated songs both called "Skin Tight" by two of your favorite groups, The Ohio Players and Chicago. Both great songs, and fun!
Have you heard of Jonathan Bulter? If not check out: Lost to love, and I'm on my knees You two will love is style, and he is smooth as glass! He's on the same level as Eddie.
My wife and I used to call this our “riding music.” We used to put the cassette in, break out the wine coolers and ROLL that Cadillac until the gas ran out. If you know you know.
Another of Eddie's that I love is Can I add with the Temptations is Silent Night yoj have never heard Silent Night like they did it I know that you will love it
Solo Eddie Kendricks is post 60s era Motown. It's part of that that DEEP R&B musical aesthetic prevalent in the 70s and early 80s. It's a sub-genre unto itself. Sweet Sable used this groove in "Old Time's Sake". ruclips.net/video/qjZCzGOg9Kk/видео.html
Try Rod Stewart “The Motown Song” with the Temptations. It’s a great song with Rod Stewart as lead and the Temptations backing and a fun official video.
Jay views life from the inside looking for secrets and hidden meanings....Amber looks at life from the outside taking from life what it presents! Interesting. That's why they hear music differently.
Eddies biggest hit was "Keep on Truckin". A great and funky 70's soul classic featuring Motowns Funk Brothers living up to their name.
One of the best tunes on the radio in late 1973!
I love that song , I have the original 45 record and album. 😊
First Song I Bought as Kid. Keep on Trucking.
Eddie's falsetto is the most soulful of all the falsetto singers.
I was so lucky to see him perform with the Temptations in 1969. What a voice!!! ❤❤❤
"Going up in Smoke," is another underrated classic by Eddie!
Here are three upbeat hits from EK’s solo efforts; “Girl you need a change in mind”, “Boogie Down” and “Keep on truckin’”.
This is a classic and has been sampled many times…… RIP Eddie
Yep, Unbreakable by Alicia Keys comes to mind. 🦾
Alicia Keys sampled it for Unbreakable. Now I know why Unbreakable sounded familiar. I must have heard this when I was a little child.
Sweet Sable Old Times Sake. Above the Rim soundtrack.
He had way more hits better than this.
@joybooth9129 That's the one sample I know. Sadly she passed not too long ago
Eddie Kendricks did lead vocals on The Temptations songs "The Way You Do the Things You Do" and "Get Ready"!!!! Time for y'all to do those songs!!!
Eddie was lead for the first couple of Temptations' hits, until 1965 when David was introduced on "My Girl". One song that displayed Eddie's falsetto was 'The Girl's Alright With Me", by the Temptations.
Let's not forget Just my imagination, Get ready, I'm gonna make you love me.
LOL, when I first played this song for my wife, she was so confused... because she knew it was an older song, but she thought he was saying "Internet Friends", not Intimate Friends. She was like, "They didn't have the internet back then! How did he know?" LOL. 😅🤣
Shout out to Sweet Sable “Old Times Sake” & Alicia Keys “Unbreakable” for sampling this great song 🎵
One of the great voices in soul music. He is missed. R.I.P. Eddie!
My all time favorite Eddie Kendricks solo career song is IF YOU LET ME. He has sooo many good songs with and without the Temptations.
✌️😁❤️👍🎶🎶🎶🎶
Love smooth male voices like this. Rip Eddie
Just remember there is only one Eddie Kendricks.R.I.P EDDIE.
R.I.P To a Great Singer Eddie Kendricks, Still Miss You Always
"Keep on truckin'" was my favorite of Eddies ♥️🙏🏼✝️✌🏼😎
You guys gotta hear him do "Trust Your Heart"......"Shoeshine Boy"....and "Keep On Truckin' ." These songs really showcase his Beautiful "Falsetto" voice.
Best Eddie Kendricks ding..EVER!!!❤❤❤. Skipping Work is great too!
I would argue “Intimate Friends” and “Girl You Need a Change of Mind” are underrated gems.
To be young once more and listening to Eddie Hendricks singing "SKIPPING WORK TODAY"! Always brings back memories of my husband who st the time felt any excuse would do to take off from work!. R.I.P. EV.
I love his song "date with the rain"
Me too. That was one of my favorite off of that album.
Just a perfect song. 10/10

@@pattyduke3079 great one
My favorite Eddie Kendricks song is "Tell Her Love Has Felt the Need" (1974). Check it out.
An absolute and complete vibe from its release. I love it.
Factoids: Rapper Kendrick Lamar was named after Eddie Kendricks and Erykah Badu sampled this song in "Fall in Love (Your Funeral)."
I grew up a huge Temptation fan. I love Eddie's albums. My ring answering machine was "Skipping Work", one of my favorite Eddie Kendricks songs.
for jay a great soul singer you will like Al Wilson - Show and Tell
They did show and tell about a year ago. But I def agree awesome song
Don't forget "Can I".
Now listen to Alicia Keys "Unbreakable"
This is where she got it from.
My grandson's paternal Great Grandmother was Eddie Kendricks cousin. They grew up together in the Birmingham area. Birmingham, AL has a great memorial to the Temptations that I recommend visitors see.
I suggest Eddie’s Love and Tell Her Love Has Felt The Need.
I agree that is thr song that truly display the depth and range of his falsetto
He took over lead singer after the band fired David Ruffin for drugs and missing rehearsals and several concert dates and recording dates too.
Eddie had the great falsetto. Dennis Edwards was the featured singer after Ruffin left. They all shared lead vocals on several songs.
Actually, Eddie was a lead singer before David joined the group. After he did, they took turns (depending on whom Smokey Robinson, and later, Norman Whitfield, decided they wanted to lead a particular song). After David was fired, Dennis Edwards replaced him as a lead singer.
Eddie Kendricks was amazing, he was my favorite Temptation ❤️✌🏻🎶
This song is an absolute classic!
Hey guys this Jay from New Jersey.
Checkout this uptempo 80's song by Joe Jackson ( not related to the Jackson family) called Steppin' Out.
I think you'll like it. Peace!
You have to check out Josh Groban. To Where You Are and You Raise Me Up are two of Josh Groban's best songs.
Great singer and all round good guy
Hey Jay!! I'm the same way, whatever the genre is, or rhythm, I find myself tapping my feet, and nodding my head to the beat behind the chorus!!😉👍🏾

There are people in this world that owe their live's to this song.
One of my favorite songs by Eddie Kendricks is “This Used To Be The Home of Johnnie May”
Gr8 explanation of why Jay gets into the Bass so much. And a recommendation for the future: *Isn't It Time* from, The Babys

I don’t know how to articulate this style of soul/rnb to today’s RnB…but I love the f*** out of it
I met Eddie Kendricks when I was a kid here in Birmingham I'll never forget the day he was in our kitchen & my mom was trying to tell me who he was I was like uuuuuh ok 🤣 🤣
Sounded great in his last appearance with the Temptations- singing My Imagination

Thanks for playing this great, smooth song! Time to check out Teddy Pendergrass!!!❤❤❤ "Love TKO," "Turn Out the Lights," many more.
You guys made my morning. I love this song. ❤❤❤
Love Eddie from his Temptations career, never heard this song. Keep on Truckin and Boogie Down are the only ones I know.
R Kelly used this sample with Sparkle's song, Time to Move On, and sped it up, but it's DEFINITELY this sample.
Jay and Amber, I'd love for you to react to Eddie Kendricks "Girl You Need a Change If Mind." There's lots of kick-ass piano and horns! It made us lose our minds on the disco dancefloors.

He has four hits., Girl you need a change of mind and He's a friend.
@@empire7179 He's A Friend was from one of the two albums Eddie recorded with Baker-Harris-Young in Philadelphia. After leaving Motown.
Man listening to this joint makes me feel like an ol school player driving a deuce and a quarter on a Sunday afternoon 😂

Am I the only one recognizes that this song was sampled by Alicia Keys for her song “Unbreakable”? Great song with an awesome arrangement.
I really liked "Intimate Friends" when it was released in 1977; so, I immediately realized that Alicia sampled it the first I heard her song.
Sparkle also sampled this in It's time to move on
Of course not
