Whisky Review #27 - Glen Turner Double Cask Port Finish

- Whilst walking around Aldi recently I spied a new find on the shelves. This is not your usual Aldi bottling though with the original distillery name being kept on the bottle.
The Glen Turner Double cask port Wood finish on paper sounds like it should cost a lot more than the £17.49 Aldi are charging. Does it punch well above it's weight or is it all looks and no substance?
Watch the video and find out for yourselves.

Dude, drank it a few nights ago. It's not bad at all. For the price, single malt, not bad. Quite smooth, no funky after taste. I don't mind going back to this one.
25 pounds (NZD$50.00) in New Zealand. This is the cheapest single malt whiskey which is sold here. It's pretty good for the price and I liked it.
Anyone blind tasted this next to a Glenfiddich Malt Masters yet ?!? If you didn´t ... DO IT ! You´ll be surprised.
There's also a Glen Turner 12 years, and you wouldn't fall for it in a blind taste test against the Glenfiddich 12 years, but it's surprisingly on the same lines.
My “go to” budget malt. Brilliant value.
It's a great whisky for the price Tony, thank you for watching and commenting 🥃
Great video Matt, I picked a bottle of this up a few days ago and whilst it’s not one of my favourite ‘budget’ bottles you can’t really complain at £17.99 can you 🤷♂️ don’t know how true it is either but I heard it was 5-6 yrs old 👍
For the price its a perfect one to sit at the front of the cabinet to be sipped on a regular basis. The thing is that for a fiver more now you can pick up a lot better whiskys, Tamnavulin on special offer is a perfect example!! Cheers mate 🥃🥃
Hard to beat getting the heads up on these whiskies. Picked up a Co-Op 12 year single malt earlier for £23, which is pretty damn good price. Cheers mate.
I look forward to seeing the review on that 12 year old mate!! Hope you are well Al 🥃🥃
hi Matt great video with alot of in depth information .
sounds like the glen Marnock islay review you did ( for value for money you really cant complain)
will be def purchasing this over next week or so ... as for the glen Marnock range I think they were temporarily discontinued but have appeared back in the RDC so should expect to see them again soon .
Cheers buddy, it's great to hear the marnochs are back!! I still need the highland to complete the set. 🥃🥃
Hi Matt i am out to get a bottle of this whisky to go with my old GLEN TURNER barrel (empty of course ) which i am varnishing at the moment cannot wait to buy this great stuff Slainte .
Hello Stephen, enjoy the whisky my friend. Cheers 🥃🥃
Hi Matt glad you like it I'm not impressed at the moment.
First let me say .... not been well today is the first day outside for ten days maybe .... not very well and full of serious pain killers ... and it's lashing it down out there so I'm sure there's plenty there to influence my nose and palette.
Went in ALDI with the missus with the intention of buying a drink saw this grabbed it with glee ooooh something new!
On the nose I found it pretty vacant and a bit sharp.
On the palette I found it seriously lacking and short o the finish .... maybe I've gotten to like the smoky stuff too much maybe it's not being very well and the medication but right now .... cheap and not very cheerful.
I'll have a few sips later and tomorrow and see if anything changes but I prefer their fourteen quid single malts to this but the shelves were gin gin and more gin.
Blooming heck jack I hope you get better soon mate!! The Aldi shop near mine is all gins as well which is annoying as I'm not really a fan at all!!
Try it again once you feel a bit better and let me know if your thoughts change.
Cheers mate 🥃
Brilliant. Completely agree. Great drop of cheap malt.
Hello mate, it's not bad at all!! Aldi have even started to stock bells now as well!! Take care mate 🥃
@@MattsCigarsAndWhisky How would you compare it with the Glen Marnoch's?
@@MartianTom I'd say it's a slightly better quality, not light years ahead though just slightly 🥃🥃
