- First Wives Club is a musical with music and lyrics by Brian Holland, Lamont Dozier, and Eddie Holland. The musical is based on the 1996 movie of the same name. The musical premiered in San Diego, California, in 2009, with a book by Rupert Holmes. A reworked version had a production in Chicago, in 2015, with a new book by Linda Bloodworth-Thomason.

Pre-Broadway Tryout. First preview! The show ran very long, so there were many cuts and changes towards the end of the run.
I didn't know this even existed. This is my absolute favorite movie so I'm hopefully not let down.

"Don't call her a model" I swear, Faith Prince gets all the best lines in this show!
I liked it, but come on without "You don't own me" ending its just not right. Elise doesn't really get her comeback like Annie and Brenda. In the movie she stars in a hit play, maybe they could have worked in a new hit single. Shelly was really funny.

Found this after watching one of my favorite scenes from the film. Though it's a bit long (yes, I read the uploader's note), I'd like to see a theater here in NC do a revised production of this show!
Okay I talked a lot of shit but I think it might be because The First Wives Club is literally my favorite movie so I nitpicked. This really isn’t bad, it clearly needs cuts but this is a tryout so I mean 🤷🏼♀️. 9 to 5 is still the superior female empowerment film-turned-musical.
This definitely should’ve just been a play with musical elements. The book is actually pretty strong and the changes aren’t too different from the movie but these songs… every single time I’m like “oh god ANOTHER song???” It took like 3 different songs just for Cynthia to jump off her balcony. I hope someone tries to bring this back at some point with revised music and lyrics or just abandon the full-on musical element altogether.

Act 1 was kind of painfully long to sit through but it definitely picks up in the second act. The songs aren't very memorable but overall this wasn't too bad.
The one in San Diego was better.
The gal playing Elise has a spoken vocal timbre similar to Goldie.
Do you have the San Diego Version of this ? I liked the actresses more from the Chicago version but I liked the show and music more From the San Diego versión but i can’t find it anywhere.

Actually I did notice she didn't throw it. But I just assumed it was because I was paying closer attention to her and only saw the other two out of the corner of my eye.
I there any chance the get the new songs from HDH in this musical in studio quality? Something like a "soundtrack"?

So... is this show dead, or is there a chance of another go? I saw the original San Diego production, and it was obvious that a lot of money and effort and talent had been thrown at it, and while many of the separate elements were entertaining, it just didn't work. The H-D-H score was particularly disappointing to me - I guess my expectations were very (too?) high, but the songs just weren't very distinctive. I will watch this and see if I can compare it to my distant memory.

This one didn't need to be a musical. The movie overall is wonderful. No need to make it into .... something it isn't. 😢🎉
Nothing NEEDS to be adapted. But I'm so glad we can enjoy First Wives Club in another medium of entertainment (film, theater, and now televsion). Overall, this production is great, even if most of the musical numbers are unnecessary.
While I appreciate the effort and the cast was brilliant I feel the musical missed the point of the original. The movie was never about revenge, but justice, the fact that the organization the girls make in the end is not named after Cynthia considering all the hints of how important she was to them, also the narrative structure is a little messy and things happen just cause, I know it was a draft and I hope they corrected some of its issues in the end.
While I enjoyed the San Diego production, I felt this was a vast improvement to the story.
Does anyone know if the rights are available for this show yet?
Unfortunately I traveled to Chicago to see the out of down tryout. It was one of the worst musicals I've ever seen. And I'm a huge Faith Prince fan. But the whole show was a huge misstep.

the ONLY problem was the person doing the filming i have multiple complaints other than those two thumbs up i was pleased i don't even like musicals the actresses were surprize ingly very good. they were just as good as Bette Midler & Goldie Hawn when they each started out (sheepishly if not better than) either way this cast did the original cast very well! the entire cast was excellent i have nothing bad to say upon the execution but Dianne Keaton was actually shy and timid upon singing she never felt comfortable with it till the very end and that needed to be shown more that is my only complaint far as the actresses goes , they filled their shoes very well, personally for a movie lover who has seen the original i would have given a standing O' .
