    I just wanna watch all your Penang videos from this point on and I've been waiting!! Gosh, Penang looks sooo good (food looks good)! Whenever I go to Penang, i will always be willing to eat Nasi Kandar, and all of the Nasi Kandar restaurants are FILLED with people and usually we have to line up a long line. But at the end, it was absolutely worth it. I just love how people love the food. There is a lot of street foods in Penang, and are always busy. Just want to go to Penang so badly!! Love your videos soo much! And I hope both of you can learn the recipe for Malay foods yourself so you'll never run out of Malaysian food ever again. :-)

    I must said they may have decided which street food to present for their courses. To some viewers like me, it's easy to think that Thomas is thirsty for ice cold sweet drink/dessert and Sheena is more hungry for savory appetizer & noodles. The Char Kuay Teow really look good & delicious and so are the chendol. They are my favorites.

      Thanks for the feedback mate. I guess it's hard because often we're eating things for the first time and we have nothing to compare it to. I guess we give our opinion through what we say. And when we're not keen on something (like the cendol) we'll just explain why. We just finished filming some videos with Luke so keep an eye out for those coming up on our channels soon 😀 Cheers, Sheena

    One of my must-do char koay teow when visiting Penang is at this corner shop on the intersection of Lebuh carnarvon and Lebuh melayu. They are known for their duck egg ckt. I think it's called tiger ckt or something close to that. Another one is Super Hokkien Mee (prawn broth noodles, not the kl black hokkien noodles). It is really damn good but the cook's not the most courteous person you'll meet and word has it that he usually only serves local penangnites and would tell you it's sold out otherwise. We usually have a local friend who orders it for us in hokkien and it takes at least half an hour for the dish to arrive but definitely calories well spent!

      OMG Daryl Tan, this is the best- thanks so much for those tips! We may have to make friends with a local so we can get ourselves a plate of those Super Hokkien Mee- they sound incredible. Hope you enjoyed this one mate, thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Sheena

    Siam Road Char Koay Teow worth the wait, eh? I don't mind long waits when restos use pagers or texts while we're off doing something but standing on line for 2 hours may be a deal breaker. Well, perhaps for sushi. :) Stood on line for an hour for BBQ in Austin, Texas once and I recall waiting an hour in the cold for breakfast in Portland, Oregon. Ha. They offered complimentary hot chocolate and coffee for the trouble. Terrific recommendations as usual, guys!

    • @ChasingaPlate
      @ChasingaPlate  6 лет назад +1

      Yea, it's a long time... there is a kopitiam where you can wait and order drinks but it's not that big- they must get so packed nowadays! I remember we once waited for a table in Melbourne for 3 hours only to have them tell us after the 3 hours that they couldn't seat us as there were already 150 on the list and they wouldn't be able to cope 😳😬 In the meantime we'd been bar hopping so were slightly (read: very) inebriated when we finally sat down to a meal at 11pm!! I'd totally line up for epic sushi too!! Thanks for watching mate, this was a fun day of eating! Cheers, Sheena

    Cendol nowadays is far differ than we get in the past...during my childhood, my mother make the cendol by herself, using rice flour, glutinous rice flour and liquid from pandan leaf for colouring..combine with fresh coconut milk from coconut tree at the back of my house and gula melaka+little bit of salt, with couple of ice cube (not shredded one)...miss those moment...nowadays people always cooked the coconut milk to make it last longer, dilute them to cut cost (coconut milk is expensive commodities this days), add condensed milk and they even try to change to santan from palm oil tree...even cendol with kidney bean and sweet corn is not even authentic, that is just for ABC...Try to travel and stay in homestay around northern state villages, your host might be able to help you guys to have the real deal and might learn to make them by your own...Enjoy your travel here...;)

      and they promote palm(sawit) milk healthier than coconut milk. but what I see nowdays, more westerners start using coconut oil especially vegan. but I wonder if others can smell the aroma of coconut milk differ from palm milk? thanks to my 'bad' habit of sniffing food before I ate it :D

    • @ChasingaPlate
      @ChasingaPlate  6 лет назад +1

      I'm totally a sniffer ITS RIZQY! It adds so much to the experience! I really want to smell the difference now. We haven't knowingly had palm milk... Westerners are OBSESSED with coconut oil in all its forms. There has been a real trend of using coconut products over the last 3 years or so! Thomas was a buyer for a supermarket in Australia and he would order so many coconut oil and coconut products. It would fly off the shelves! Cheers, Sheena

    I would suggest you to try the penang food from varieties of stall based on ethnicity. Go to try Malay, Indian and Chinese and you would find astounding taste of all. And from there you will know Malaysia as the melting pot of all kind of food.

    Anyone know what is the purpose of filling the bowl with soup and pouring it out multiple times? I've always wondered. Is it just to reheat the noodles?

    • @darimydemy1317
      @darimydemy1317 6 лет назад +2

      well laksa soup is made of fish meat.. so they try to fill up more fish meat to the soup.. so the soup become thicker

      Sheena. Another remedy you could try for sore throat...tamarind juice...better you prepare it yourself if you can...just buy wet tamarind in a pack...pour a glass of hot water...add some sugar because the tamarind juice should be sour enough (use enough tamarind for a glass of water)...or you can find bottled ones...but I strongly recommend you to avoid cold drinks and iced drinks until you get better
