Wonderful classic match. I didn’t have the privilege to watch Sir Vivian Richards batting and I have only watched few videos of him.I don’t know why I get this feeling that somehow the aura of invincibility he had here and throughout his career I don’t think anyone can match him and sure some batsmen came close like Matthew Hayden MS Dhoni Kevin Pietersen AB De Villiers are all great batsmen too but Sir Vivian Richards is/was a whole different level whether his swagger coolness dominating the opponent and sometimes there is no adjective to describe him and definitely once in a lifetime cricketer

His name was enough to create some sort of fobia & inferriority complex in the minds of bowlers before going to bowl him.🥴🥺😝

If you watched Virendra Sehwag, he had a temperament of Vivian Richards. I am not saying about batting style but Faire and aggression. Well Viv Richards had a natural brutal arrogance (self believing) and swagger.

Viv got me interested in cricket. His 291 at the Oval in 1976 topped even his 232 at Trent Bridge.

I was such a lucky young fella to have seen this West Indies team up close and personally. my scout troop was often charged with working the score boards or ushering the pavilion at the Queen's Park Oval and we relished it. This team may or may not have had any issues in the dressing room (I have no idea) but whenever they took the pitch or were presented in the media or in public, they were the pride of the West Indies and always were the rallying point against the colonial super powers. We always enjoyed any victory against any of the other great teams of this era but our victories were that much sweeter whenever it was against England or Australia.

What a classic match. Some of the greatest players of all time on display. I was very lucky to see some of them. Great times.

This video states that the original commentry team were Richie Benaud, Peter West and Tony Greig. It's rather strange then that the first three voices heard commentating are Jim Laker, Ted Dexter and Tony Lewis.

What a great match almost a Final. Great innings by Sir Viv nice batting and catch by Gordon. Roberts unlucky to have missed two wickets, otherwise would have been an easier win for this mighty West Indies team.

This match is the reason for BBC not recorded the Kapildev knock of 175
Two matches happened in single day, BBC have the facility to record only one match and they prefer Aus vs West indies. Obviously that decision is understandable

@@arpitshelar4258 Then how this match telecasted on that same day? Actually, BBC strike news is a rumour and that was clarified last year by BBC

It is interesting to see Larry Gomes bowling his part-time spinners here. The WIndies more usually turned to Viv Richards for this option in ODI's. Larry Gomes had the better career ODI bowling record, though.

This great West Indies side didn't play for individual records, they played for victory. In the 1983 world cup tournament the teams played in two groups. West Indies, Australia, India & Zimbabwe played in one group. This match was played at a crucial stage in the tournament. All the four teams in the group were in contention to make it to semifinals of the tournament when this match was being played, so the West Indies finished the match as quickly as possible to ensure that they finished with better net run rate in case other teams finished level with them on points. On the same day India played Zimbabwe where the Great Kapil Dev hit the marvelous 175 not out after India were 17/5 at one stage before the great allrounder turned the match through his brilliant heroic innings.

The West Indies of that era did not give a damn about individual records.
It is mainly the Indian fans who clamoured for individual records, especially aggregate records over an entire career, which hardly mean anything in the context of results and victories for a team.
