- Just Flight has released their Piper Arrow III for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020! In this video, I take the Arrow for a little flight through the Blue Ridge mountains.
As many of you know, I am a real certified private pilot who did my training in both the Piper Cherokee II and Archer III. I am currently in the process of getting my high performance endorsement which includes variable speed propellers but not in the Arrow III.
Overall, the Just Flight Arrow III was a lot of fun to fly and I look forward to flying it some more!

They do include a less worn version as well which comes as part of the download. Instructions on how to swap them are in the manual :)
Sweet, didn't know!
Does anyone else keep trying to pan the view around???
Bought it, for the gauges.
Totally agree with you. That instrument panel is just perfect. I especially like the real 3D layering you get in those gauges. You look at the panel from an acute angle and you really can see the different layers and needles seemingly floating.
Nice video. A more realistic eyepoint would be a nice improvement.
The Arrow would look really nice flying a tour of the 7 or so airports from CYVR Vancouver and east all the way out to Hope, BC. You'll love our region on a nice sunny day!
Not doing a walkaround because it's a sim? Well, I guess the Accusim aircraft will be a shock for you! LOL!
Because of "this" aircraft. In X-Plane 11 there are several aircraft I have that need a good pre-flight because they actually simulate things like pitot static covers, oil usage, water in fuel, etc.
@@MicahMesser Yeah, but JF is charging almost as much as an A2A lvl add-on.. This Arrow is getting overrated.
'Honey, have you seen my blue dress.....yea, I think it's at the bottom of the runway hanging from a tree' :)
Great video and nice flying.
N174EA? That doesn't looks like a 737-800? :) I do like that this already has the Eastern color scheme!
I have a 78 Piper Turbo Arrow III and this thing doesn't act like mine in many respects. Throttle response is much too slow. I was able to fly this pane in the sim to 30,000 feet
Yeah. I agree.
This aircraft is also amazing in VR, minus how it doesn't have correct bindings yet for many of the switches making moot some of the Honeycomb functionality.
Also find the 9 SW on the yoke base do not work, all the buttons on the yoke itself work normally
I watched another review video of this aircraft and I presume the reviewer was using High quality or higher because most of the rivets and screws on the external shots were in 3D and they were really very good. I also love the instruments in this aircraft, especially when viewed from an acute angle. They really show two or three layers, each of which is separated from the layer in front of and behind it. This means that moving elements in the guage are not just moving pixels on a flat plane.
In that same review, which was, incidentally, uploaded by a PA-28 instructor with hundreds of hours on type, the conclusion was that the flying characteristics and sounds are about as accurate as they can be. Just Flight are on to a winner with this aircraft. I honestly don't know why Carenado bothered with their version.
I agree, Just Flight wins. I just wish the two of them could come together and make the perfect one.
@@MicahMesser That would mean an awful lot of compromise on the part of Carenado. It would mean they'd have to give up the whole of the flight model and the interior, especially the instrument panel. I doubt even A2A could get it as good as Just Flight.
Purchased today. Flown similar (non- retract).
Love me some Piper!
Piper archer for me
Thanks for the informative video! I am quite interested in picking up this aircraft myself. On your system, how does it perform compared to other similar default GA aircraft? Besides the bit of frame rate loss when turning final, have you noticed any performance issues?
I did have a few issues this evening streaming but that is probably due to the resources necessary for streaming.
The instruments froze on me twice, going to report that to Just Flight as a bug.
Has some weird control authority on the ground, the nose wheel has way too much grip at high speeds.
Other than that, it's been great!
You get a like just for leaving the baggage door open 😁 I did LOL when I saw that.
Yeeaaah, it's what I get for not doing a walk around lol
Uhm sir you missed the most important step of the checklist. You did not yell “CLEAR” when starting the engine lol great video man can’t wait to do some group flights with yah
I know 😬
ME: CLEEEAAARRR!
WIFE: Screams and drops to the floor.
DOG: Starts barking and running around.
@Zyonix007 how did you know about them?
@SimPilotX yeah lol
They do include a "cleaner" cockpit version in the folder. You just have to replace the texures in the VC folder.
Gotcha, I prefer the used version for now. Reminds me of the aircraft I fly now!
@@MicahMesser the only issue I have with the worn version is the windows. There is a part of the front windows that keep tricking me into thinking I'm seeing a lightning bolt. Hahaha
best
Best video, best plane?
@@MicahMesser best video since you explain propeller rpm control, it's like enlightenment for fixed pitch propeller cessna user like me.
also best plane in term of keeping straight and level flight , all others wobble
With the iPad can you put ForeFlight on it ?
No, ForeFlight only works on an actual iPad
Nice video. As an previous Arrow III owner with thousands of hours I offer the following, not as criticism, and of course verify with your instructor. ~19:15 "reduce throttle to reduce RPM", suggest use blue prop control to below 2500. ~22: again, bring prop back then here decrease mixture to peak EGT and back off a few degrees (continue thru climb). Since this is not a turbo manifold pressure is what it is. Great speed and altitude control throughout. In traffic pattern I always lowered the gear and put in first notch of flaps when I entered the pattern to lower the workload and stabilize as early as possible. Noticed you had 4 red on the PAPI all the way down, a little wind change and you might have found the ground a little early. I kept 2/2 until the threshold except for STOL. Good luck on your complex rating. PS, I also bought the JF Arrow and love it!
Thanks for all the info!
In general, unless during worse weather situations, I focus on my sight picture. I'm not quite sure on the sight picture yet! I generally try to keep one white for my visual approaches. Always, always, always keep two whites on non-visual.
I haven't used MSFS2020 a lot, since I'm quite happy with my X-Plane installation. I love the Piper Arrow in X-Plane and fly it alot. How does the MSFS version compare to the X-Plane version? I'm not worried about visuals, this is really something I don't care about. I'm more interested in flight model and systems. Really enjoyed watching your video, btw.
Hmm...I honestly feel like the MSFS 2020 had a more detailed flight model for the most part, except on the ground - that's wrong.
I also use the HC Yoke and find the 9 SW on the yoke base do not work for the JF Arrow, all the buttons on the yoke itself work normally. My yoke works normal for all my other aircraft.
How can I get the 9 inoperative yoke Switches to work for the JF Arrow? Has anyone else had this problem?
Since the update this should be sorted
Quick question Micah. What is the general/typical cruising altitude of this plane irl. Just a rough range would be great. I know there are exceptions but ball park. Thanks!
30,000-38,000
Bought this upon release. Been having a great time flying it. Only thing that bugs me is it taxi's way too fast at Idle, nothing like a real piper as I spend a lot of hours in a turbo after getting my high performance and complex endorsement but other then that this aircraft is worth every penny.
Yeah, I think it honestly comes down to MSFS not truly modeling ground friction correctly.
worth to buy this one?
I think so. The update helped.
Can you please share your HC yoke sensitivity settings.
you can add thed new clean cockpit textures directions are in the manual
Excellent video. I've not made the switch as yet from fs2004 as I'm highly concerned about frame rates. Can you tell me is it mainly about an extremely fast internet speed in MS2020? What sort of speed is best?
What are your PC specs? And what screen(s) are you using?
Your internet speed isnt that important really. Unless its really unstable... Somewhere between 30-100 mbps will be enough.
My Automatic Landing Gear light keeps flashing
Turn it to manual?
I want a g500 mfd
Would be nice!
20:22 you just lost your new RTX 3080 that was inside that suitcase.
NOOOOOOOOO
How can you do a review of an airplane if you don't have the graphic setting on ultra. I have seen other movies of it and it looks a lot better then.
Not everyone has systems that can handle that, DanceTweet Looney Tune. So, I do what my system can handle at 60FPS on a 4K monitor.
@@MicahMesser On replay you cam make the video MUCH better by changing from "Auto: to HD
Bit disappointing with the exterior textures. Do you think theyll add PBR textures in the future
Not sure. It's better on ultra but still has some lack of luster. I think at the least we will see a modder come in and do a PBR texture.
@@MicahMesser yes i have my setting on ultra and looks alright from the cockpit and exterior camera but when you zoom in you see a big difference in quality, hopefully someone can come in like you said
I picked up the PA28 too .. Love it. Any idea why the TC ball never seems to move far from center in the air with yaw? I tried turning off auto rudder but that doesn't seem to change anything. It seems to move on the ground.
Probably just need to adjust your rudder sensitivity with your controls.
@@MicahMesser Thanks I'll check it out. Seems quite sensitive on the ground but perhaps that is the nosewheel.
@@norcal5542 oh yeah, it's overly sensitive.
anybody else have the bug that sends you into a spin when you are at one notch of flaps
I'm not aware of that issue. I would search the Just Flight Forum.
@@MicahMesser Make sure you have switched from "Legacy" in the flight module to "Modern".
Bought the Carenado Piper Arrow 3 and flaps cause uncontrollable pitch
Hmm, sorry to hear that. I heard the Carenado PBR textures are great though!
@@MicahMesser has beautiful textures. Bought it because I fly a PA28-181 irl and currently it's the closet I can get to it in MSFS20 other than a 172 and we both know wings are wrong, lol. Carenado did an amazing job on it for P3D and FSX, so I had high hopes...
I hear ya! I bought the Carenado 161 in X-Plane 11 and enjoyed it but thought the flight characteristics were all wrong, especially on turns.
Yeah, Tuesday's Sim Update 3 broke the flaps. Carenado is aware of the problem and said on their FB they will patch it ASAP.
Uh, sorry, I believe that we lost your luggage. 😂 Nice review video. Thank you.
Yep! Tell you what, you would notice that instantly in real life, the drag and noise would be obvious!
@@MicahMesser That's for sure, nothing derogatory meant . I just got a kick out of it. 😊 I bought the plane after watching your review. 👍
@@olddogg60 have you tried it yet?
@@MicahMesser Almost. 😊 By that I mean I could not get the GNS 430/530 to power up, I had to leave for a while and when I returned I thought I had figured it out. I had the GNS530 Mod in the community folder, removed the Mod and all is well. The clue was that the GPS100 would power up. I probably won't get to give the plane a real try out until tomorrow. I will report back though. Thanks again for the review.
I have 'some' time in the plane now and I'm loving it. It trims out realistically which is a nice change from other sim aircraft. More later. 😊
