I love living in Indiana. It seemed boring when I was young but when you get older and more mature you appreciate the small town vibe and the lack of drama other places have.

My wife and I were born and raised in rural Indiana. We left in the 1970's and ended up living in 9 states and 2 foreign countries. Today we live in a small rural town in Southwest Missouri -- I was kind of like going home to Indiana. I am now a Indiana Fever fan - Go Catlin Clark!

Great video! I've lived in Indiana for most of my life - I was born here in the '70s, moved away, came back in 1989, went to college here, got married here, etc, etc.. I have lived in Walkerton, Mishawaka, near Culver, Elkhart, Marion, Indianapolis, New Whiteland, and Zionsville. I have worked in South Bend, North Liberty, Carmel and Fishers in addition to the places where I have lived. But I have been up and down this State so many times. This state has a natural land divide that starts just South of Kokomo where everything North of that is purely part of the 'rust belt' Northern part of the State that identifies more with Chicago, and then everything South of that is more hilly and gets into more of the Southern part of the State that identifies more with Indianapolis, Terre Haute, Cincinnati and Louisville. Indiana has both flat stretches of land with corn fields and Caves in Marengo with several lakes spread throughout the State with a lot of forests. The Wabash River is a major river that flows throughout the State, even forming part of our Western border with Illinois. The Ohio River is our natural border with Kentucky. Indiana borders Lake Michigan and the State of Michigan itself in the North, and our long Eastern border is shared with Ohio.
We have a few sports teams. People who live in the northern part of the State all of the way down to Kokomo could identify more as fans of the Chicago teams - the Bears, the Cubs, the White Sox, the Bulls and the Blackhawks. But people in the Southern region of the State tend to identify with the Indianapolis Colts, the Pacers, the Boilermakers of Purdue, the Indiana University Hoosiers and the Indianapolis 500 Motor Speedway. Basketball is the major past-time of this State.
Very rarely does this State ever vote Democrat in a Presidential Election. It's mostly always Republican through and through, but you do get more of the Democratic vote in the more urban areas, being Gary, Hammond, Indianapolis, Elkhart, South Bend and Fort Wayne. Pete Buttigieg was Mayor of South Bend before he ran for President.
Indiana is home to a few Nationally known major colleges and universities. In the North there is the University of Notre Dame and Holy Cross in South Bend. In the Western part of the State are Purdue University and Indiana State University at Terre Haute. Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana is a nationally known University in the East Central region. In the Southern part of the State is Indiana University at Bloomington, and there are IU satellite universities spread throughout the State. Near our Southern border with Kentucky is the town of Evansville with the University of Southern Indiana, just right across the Ohio River from Louisville, Kentucky and the University of Louisville.
This State has one of the best bargains as far as cost of living of any State in the United States, being West enough that we don't have a higher cost of living (yet) due to population density like Ohio and Pennsylvania, but East enough that we are still part of the old rust belt manufacturing area of the Midwest before you get to the true Plains States like Illinois, Iowa and Missouri. Indiana is North enough that we get 'lake effect snow' in regions closer to Lake Michigan, and a warmer climate in the Southern region where snow becomes more and more sparse the more South you go, until you get to Kentucky where it hardly ever snows.
Indiana has the 3rd largest Amish population behind Ohio and Pennsylvania, the 4th or 5th largest Masonic membership in the United States, and it has the most Landmarks of any State. I tend to think of Indiana as a Northern State with a little bit of everything that you would consider to be associated with a Northern, Great Lakes State like Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, but just not a huge amount of it - you just get a taste of the Midwest with Indiana, and we have just about as much of it as we want. We are surrounded by States with higher populations and more land than ours, but our rate of growth is relatively high in comparison. Indiana is truly the 'Crossroads of America' as it has historically been a meeting place and a place of coming and goings. Time has borne that out as well as Indiana's central location is home to a conjunction of four major Interstate Highways: Interstate 65, Interstate 69, Interstate 70 and Interstate 74.

Living in Hawaii for the last 30 years myself but originally from Lafayette and grew up there. Hawaii is supposedly the “Aloha state” which is friendly and full good people but Hoosiers are “ salt of the earth people”, generally honest and willing to help out their neighbors. Hoosiers show more Aloha than locals here in Hawaii. I lived in northern and southern Indiana, there is no difference in the people, just north is flat and south has rolling hills. Thanks for reminding of my home state. Back home again, in Indiana!

I am from what was originally a small farm town in northwest Indiana. But now it is so urbanized! A lot of people are leaving Illinois, coming to this area causing over crowding. I worked all across the state of Indiana for over 45 years. My favorite is southern part of the state. It is very beautiful and the people are more friendly.

I think Indiana is what you make of it and what stage of life that you are in. If you are an individual that is looking for exciting times and things to do, Indiana may not be the best place for you to live. For me, I’m in my late forties. I own my own home. I live in Southern Indiana. I have acreage. The property taxes are cheap compared to other areas. There is very little government regulations where I live due to the fact that I live under County jurisdiction rather than a town or a city. I have horses and chickens. The slow life is just more appeasing to me.

Great job! I've been to so many other places now, and I love to travel. I love coming home just as much. John Mellencamp summed up Indiana's appeal for me: "I can be myself here in this small town, and people let me be just what I wanna be." I've never expected others to get it, as when I was growing up Indiana was the original fly-over AND drive-through-no-stops state. No apologies, no excuses. I just love it here.

I miss the Indiana of the pre-Walmart era and pre-Blockbuster Video era. When businesses were mom and pops you had great service. Every town was known for something different. When information passed by word-of-mouth and it was exciting to travel to places and you could experience the culture and not feel like you're being hurded through a money trap. Alas, those days are foregone and we must now live in a technological, profit-motivated, emotionless existence.
