  • Cool Roadside Stops \ Southern Indiana \ What Happened To Bean Blossom Overlook?
I took a little road trip through Shelbyville, Indiana on my way to the Hoosier National Forest, Brown County, The Town Of Story, Indiana and the Hickory Ridge Fire Tower. Shelbyville has a cool historic downtown that's quite fun to photograph. I had a nice climb up the Hickory Ridge Lookout Tower once I came upon it. Then I found the Bean Blossom Overlook and was disappointed to see that a hillside of trees had been cleared apparently by "mistake"? Go figure... So all in all a good day out looking around

I've been up in that tower a couple times. I have a real problem with heights, so climbing up those shaky stairs and looking out over the countryside is an adventure for me. I've ridden my bike along that road a few times to the little town of Houston, where my grandmother grew up back in the 1800s.

I am a native of Shelbyville, IN and it was great to see the sites. Been to Bean Blossom many times also. I remember the IMI building around Greenfield because you could see the Polar Bear at night because they kept the lights on.

That's pretty shitty that they cut all that timber out. I've been traveling that section of road from the early 70s through the late 90s and it's always been beautiful and wooded on both sides of 135

That first place, with the animals, looks familiar.....my guess, the intersection of 9 and 234.. the little town of Eden.

I would love to do a road trip following in your footsteps. Would like to know exactly where you are exploring. Love your Indiana views. I'm a transplant veteran who followed my husband home and I'm always looking for weekend adventures.

Deforestation is a huge problem for many of our few remaining forest lands. Like you wrote: GREED is a big factor and, I would add shortsightedness as well. It's usually done to raise revenue for the State government... but there is an environmentally healthier way, in my humble opinion, decriminalization of the "devil's weed" so it can be grown, sold and taxed... it's already legal on one level or another in well over half of these United States, and the profits are off the charts, but I digress. Great video as always. Be safe in your travels.

Shelbyville has a unique traffic circle. Unlike every other one, merging traffic has the right of way and traffic in the circle has to yield.

It is very pretty when the leaves are changing. In the peak of summer all you see is green treetops as you struggle to catch your breath in the thick humidity. If you're crazy enough to go up when a storm is on the horizon, though, that can be pretty cool. Just don't hang out too long...
