Hiya Simple Acre Homestead, nice job on the garden beds. I only have my tomatoes and sweet peppers in the ground. I was wondering if y'all had thought about planting Asparagus crowns? It takes 2 years for you to get a harvest. But once you have planted them, they will grow for the next 40 years. I will be planting my asaparagus this weekend. I love the idea of planting once and getting a harvest the next 40 years. Keep up the good work.
    Sending ❤️ 🙏

Thank you, we are so excited to try the beds this year. We have alot planted already. Normally we don't plant here until after May 24th but the 14 day looks so nice. The only thing we have held off on putting in the ground is our pepper plants. We actually do have asparagus but it is still establishing itself. We get a small feed each year but not alot yet. But I am sure with a 40 year life span it will eventually establish itself 😊. I love plants that come back each year.

Those look great. I was wondering if you compared the price of those to lumber that you would use to make a raised bed?

Hey Jon, I thought about wood but even to get untreated 2x12's I was looking at between 30-40 dollars for a 8ft board. So I figure at minimum 80 dollars per box.. I ended up getting these beds of amazon for between 60-70 each.

I’m in southern Iowa and you’re ahead of me! 😂 i’m going to do raised beds in mineral tubs. This is my first year for gardening.

Great idea with the mineral tubs. We are trying so hard to make a successful garden this year. We have tried wood chips, card board etc but this will be our first year with raised beds. I hope your garden turns out well. 😊
