This is how a memoriam is done, included those who passed away just this week, didn't leave anyone out. Take notes Oscars!
I've given up on the Oscars. They don't care anymore.
Except Anna Karina
She apparently passed away too late to be included.
TCM is definitely (and purely) movie focused. We, the audience, reap the benefits!
Oscars Are a Joke Made Up Of Fake Actors who think they are invincible ! Well Young Lions Here’s your Fate !
Johnny Witherspoon's speech to Craig about fighting another day really, really got to me. This was an amazing tribute.
Me too
That was an incredible moment in a movie that probably wasn’t meant to be anything more than a lighthearted comedy. That single minute really elevated the whole film. Proof that Mr. Witherspoon had the capacity of more than just making people laugh. ❤️
@@MichelleonSunset ...That's what all comedians do...ACT!!!
Remember Johnny Witherspoon from Black Jesus.
Omg me also. It gripped my chest and filled my eyes.
Hands down, there should be an Oscar category for what TCM does every year. Truly Amazing.
Agree. And appropriate.
“All those moments will be lost in time...as tears in the rain.”
Powerful piece by Hauer.
Rest in piece sir...your moments will never be lost in time.
He improvised that speech himself which makes it all the more moving
TCM memorials consistently put everyone else's to shame.
Absolutely. The transition from Rutger Hauer's "tears in the rain" speech to Stanley Donen, co-director of "Singin' In The Rain" was brilliant.
Rebekah, I couldn’t agree more. So very true. And well done TCM!!
Yeah TMC is real classy about these things.
They do indeed. I'll miss them all.
The Academy Awards always leaves someone ( or more) out! They should be more accurate, of all !! I don't get to see TCM on my cable anymore. Things got too expensive. But, I watched it alot.
I love how Diahann Carroll's voice was integrated into this.
Hers and Doris Day's!
@@ElizaDolittle Yes, very appropriate
👍💯😊🙏
And the great Dutchman "Tears in the rain" Rutger Hauer
Whoever does these INCREDIBLY moving pieces each year deserves their OWN Oscar. Thank you thank you thank you for these.
Their graphics/video team is just top notch. Even the monthly videos. I'm so glad they're on the youtube channel. Just works of art in themselves.
Yeah Absolutely.
Sabotage Film Group. Scott Lansing.
"There'll never be any one else like you in my life."
Do you know what movie that is from??
@@claytonwlkr I think it’s from one of Doris Day’s films, you can have fun watching them all to see, she’s a Legend.
it always feels like i lost a whole lot of friends. i am older and to me, they were my friends...
Robert Forster?? No! How did I miss that? He’s one of my heartthrobs. The way Max Cherry looks at Jackie Brown the first time he sees her...perfection.
Good actor but all I can see is Chuck Norris beating the hell out of him in the Delta Force. First time I saw Forester.
He passed away on the exact day the Breaking Bad movie, El Camino was released on Netflix back in October.
He was Captain Dan Holland in Disney's "The Black Hole" (1979).
And the Sherriff in Twin Peaks reboot in 2017, on Showtime.
It's so jarring seeing Luke Perry in this because its hard to believe that he is gone. I love the clip they chose. He looked fantastic in Buffy.
Im still sensitive about him😪😪😪
I wasn't a great fan - until Riverdale. Still, it would have been a shocking tragedy at any rate, because of his age!
Funny that Rutger Hauer was also in the movie. RIP to both men, and to so many more who passed this year.
I think it's jarring because I can't think of anything he was ever in that would qualify as a classic movie. I know he never wanted to be known just for playing on "Beverly Hills 90210," but I'd think if they can add him, they could've just as easily added somebody like Cameron Boyce.
@@DTD110865 Different weight both as an actor and a celebrity. Perry headlined 8 Seconds and showed up in Buffy, The Fifth Element, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and others. For an entire generation, he was a very big deal. Even if Riverdale never happened, you could easily argue he played one of the 10 most iconic TV characters of the 90s.
This was beautiful! I loved hearing Doris Day at the end of the video. She was an amazing actress, and an even more amazing woman! Thank you TCM for the joy of hearing her voice!
She was a Bigger than Life Did Gave Of herself off Screen also a Big Animal activist !
I was so glad they ended with her, she deserved that
We lost so many I grew up with watching movies with my mother. Seeing and then hearing Doris Day's voice put me in tears. I know death is a part of life but we will never really have to say goodbye to them as long as we can still see the movies they were a part of so thank you to TCM.
As beautiful inside as she was on the outside. ❤ Such a classy and kind woman.
@@suzannejensen275 Ah, Doris Day. A real beauty with a lovely singing voice and the ability to act well. She was indeed special.
Thanks for including Carol Channing in the list. We remember her well, regardless of what the Academy claims. R.I.P., dear.
The producers choose the perfect songs for TCM Remembers.
No one does memoriam tributes better than you TCM. RIP to all those who passed. Thank you for all you've contributed.
Beautiful. Doris Day deserved an Honorary Oscar for her brilliant movie work and the fact DD was #1 at the box office years in a row. Something that has not been repeated or will likely be. Love Me Or Leave Me, Pillow Talk, Lover Come Back, etc. Her magical singing voice: A Sentimental Journey
I have always thought that too.. she did it all!!
Seems that Valerie Harper really battle cancer for a long time. I'm glad she is finally at peace.
A hook just pierced my heart..
Nobody does tributes better than TCM.
Beautiful tribute. Peter Mayhew and Tim Conway were the ones who got me the most. :'( may they all rest in peace.
Dick Miller, Peter Fonda, Rutger Hauer, and Rip Torn :(
@@robertstuart480 Rip Torn was so underrated!!! I loved him!!
I loved Katherine Helmond since I was a little kid and she was Jessica Tate on Soap As well as her Terry Gilliam roles. What a beautiful lady. Of Course Tim Conway was also a huge part of my childhood. And I so appreciated Danny Aiello for Moonstruck and Jacobs Ladder. Peggy Lipton - Twin Peaks. One of the best lines in film history were from Rutger Hauer in Blade Runner. Peter Mayhew for being Chewie. Carol Lynley for The Poseidon Adventure. Jan-Michael Vincent for Deliver Us From Evil 1973. Robert Forster. Violet Beauregarde. Albert Finney for Miller's Crossing. Valerie Harper for that smile. Michael J. Pollard for C.W. Moss. Rip Torn for his name. And of course Doris Day for Que Sera Sera. Also, I LOVE this song.
The man that never talked...in Cool Hand Luke!!!?? He was a favorite of mine!! He said so much in that movie without ever saying a word!!! Morgan Woodward!
A big thank you to all those who have contributed to the fabric of cinema arts.
You are greatly missed!
Everyone but Peter Fonda ! He’s a Fucking Bum !
Michael J. Pollard was in my favorite episode of Lost in Space. He always gave a performance from the heart.
I love how TCM reminds us of the creative forces from around the globe and how they affect our small-town lives.
I remember him from the movie Bonnie and Clyde
He was also in the Star Trek episode "Miri"
Star Trek lost another 'teen guest'-Charlie X aka Robert Walker, Jr.
My dad would've loved this video he died 4 weeks ago as of me typing this he loved old movie and some of these actors too r.i.p to him and all the actors we lost this year you all will be missed
For me it will be six years on New Years morning. I remember sitting in the hospital feeling emotionally paralyzed with grief helplessly watching my father slowly, painfully leave. TCM always was a comfort to me. So I had the tv on low and at some point In Memoriam came on. So it's really painful to see these reminders.
@@SandySaunders9142 i feel your pain the reminders hurt you never really get over it
A very moving tribute. The inclusion of Virginia Leith brought a smile to my face. R.I.P. Jan in the Pan.
In addition to Terry Rawlins and Rutger Hauer, we also lost Blade Runner production designer Lawrence G. Paull.
There was never a brighter day than Doris Day. 🌹
Really well done, thank you. Losing John Singleton at such a young age is tragic.
If you dance you owe Stanley Donen for every step you take. So many artists, May their memories be a blessing.
Every year, every year it cuts like a knife to see the names known & unknown. Once again the song is hauntingly beautiful. Thank you TCM. Nice to see Bob Dorian , who was a host introducing classic films at AMC when the channel was still true to it's origin, remembered.
This was beautiful! Doris Day's death gutted me. It's hard seeing Luke Perry on here. You have me in tears TCM!
Movie stars stay forever young.
This one made me cry. They're always moving but this one... really reached into my heart.
It's. Good to see them one more time. Its good to remember old friends to say goodby
A lovely tribute. I might have included Kaye Ballard, who did appear in some films despite being primarily a television and stage actress.
So many character actors passed away .
Julie Gibson was 106. Wow! RIP.
So many wonderful actors, actresses, and directors passed away this year. Some real legends left us this year.
How fitting that Doris Day came last. Lots of people I knew and respected for their work but she was the only one who got me choked up. Another Hollywood immortal has left us.
Same here. My eyes had become wet over Miss Day. RIP.
Always sad to see this every year. Rest In Peace to them all. Thank you for all the years of entertainment.....
Love these breaks my heart though I didn't realize we lost Albert Finny One of the greats! And Julie Adams one of my first true screen loves! These artists will never die!!! Thankyou TCM! And I'm still missing Mr Robert Osborne!!!!
Noone does this like TCM. Heartfelt and moving. Thanks.
The Oscars should hire TCM to do the requiem.
Not kidding!!!
Please, somebody agree with me.
"REALLY HIT'S HOME.
Good bye to my love ones. 2019
Great tribute, but not surprising given the source: TCM has always been a class act, though I'll always miss Robert Osbourne. 💙💙💙💙💙
Every time I watch one of these I find another favorite actor has died. Rest in peace you will be remembered.
Absolutely beautiful tribute to all the great stars Rutger Hauer,Doris Day and Julie Adams and all these very gifted people. Thank you for your works.
All this talent .... gone, like...... tears...... in the rain
A lot of talented people, may they rest in peace.
Lie a moth to the flame, I am drawn to this tribute every year - gets me in the gut every time.
These get me every single year.
Always so well done TCM, even the passing of Virginia "Brain That Wouldn't Die" Leith, I'm all choked up now. Very well done TCM.
TCM remembers 2011, 2018 and 2019 are my favorite. It’s like someone took snippets of my mind and thoughts and put them in the video
Too many wonderful people...
The tears in the rain line kills me every time
What a beautiful song they chose to remember those talented people we lost in 2019.
Alice Boman "Waiting".
Does anyone know what song this is?
Thank you for the 2019 TCM Remembers segment. I am surprised that people like the beautiful, sexy blonde Carol Lynley, Robert Walker, Jr., and a few others that I didn't hear about, had died this year. May they, and those who passed on that I already knew of, R.I.P. Thank you, all, for contributing to the world of cinema. You will never be forgotten.
This song is haunting & beautiful
I keep comin' back
Alice Boman "Waiting".
Perfection!! One of their best
I didn't know Rutgar Hauer died 😟 💔
I was shocked watching this about five or six people that I admired gone I had no idea .....💔
@@lfader I also said: oh no! at Denise Nickerson because I love Willy Wonka, I believe she is the first child actor in it to die (when Gene Wilder died I pretty much lost it 😢)
@@susanmorano405 when I saw her I immediately went Willy Wonka but wasn't sure which character being more familiar with the second version with Depp thinking was she the first Veruca Salt or Violet the brat? Love Gene Wilder such a brilliant brilliant man on and off screen .....
Clueless about John Witherspoon and loved how he would steal scenes and just make a movie so enjoyable his characters were a riot ... I don't like goodbyes .....
This was insanely well made. Bravo TCM. The last, great basic cable network.
Not in basic packages any more!
Just watch this again and when i hear at the end the lovely and classy Ms.Diann Carrol's voice it made me cry...and When the wonderful pleasent Ms.Doris Day make her statement OMG...the.waterfalls was flowing..these two wonderful ladies will be very missed..I said already about this one..sad when anyone dies..but glad to know when everyone can remember them.....Great Job TMC...again.
You left out Muriel Pavlow who was 97 she starred with Kenneth More in Reach for the Sky, and with Dirk Bogarde in Doctor in the House
Dammit! I wasn't aware we'd also lost Tadao Takashima. A sizeable portion of my film collection features his performances.
I'm glad I was able to see this. Even though TCM is in our Comcast contract, they removed it from our line up. We've had it for years, but no more. Now they want us to pay more to get it back. No thanks. We pay enough as it is. So, glad I saw this.
What a beautiful tribute to all the people in the entertainment industry we've lost this past year....and how fitting it was to hear Doris Day's voice at the end.
I cry every time I watch this.
Wonderful reminder of the power of good movies, both as to theme and the actors who carried out those themes. Kudos to Alice Bowman, and to TCM for choosing the perfect song and artist as background.
Honorable Mentions:
Cameron Boyce, actor
Caroll Spinney, puppeteer
Russi Taylor, voice actress
Don't forget Eddie Money rock singer
@@williamdiemert9866 He wasn't really a film actor though.
Who did Russi Taylor voice?
@@robertstuart480 Martin Prince on The Simpson's and others.
@@robertstuart480 Minnie Mouse
Nobody pays homeage like TCM
These Legends are gone. Their works and contributions in cinema will live on forever!
Elegant and moving memorial for them all. Thank you for leaving Doris Day to the end. She was such a great talent from the weight of Love Me or Leave Me, which was Oscar-worthy, to the joy of Calamity Jane and the fun of Pillow Talk. She was one of the most natural of actors. Thank you
Even though Turner Classic Movies channel honored her career with a day featuring her films on November 4, 2019, they forgot actress Nancy Gates (2/1/1926 - 3/24/2019) in this tribute.
sfinthecity - ANNA KARINA AND NANCY GATES HAVE NOW BEEN ADDED AS OF SATURDAY 21 DECEMBER 2019 -WATCH TCM TO SEE THIS UPDATED VERSION.
Beautifully done, as always. They should use this at the Oscars
For some odd reason the Academy Awards seems to think you need to see a singer at the same time so what you get through half of it is a shot of some singer with the montage somewhere projected in the background.
OSCARS THESE DAYS SUCK!
THEY DONT DO ANYTHING LIKE THEY USED TO!
Nobody watches the Oscars; better to see it here without all the moronic actors giving some political BS speeches.
These always make me misty eyed. So many great memories.
I always love these. Can't wait until my Comcast contract ends this year and I can get TCM again.
TCM does it again. Thank you for your lovely tribute...
Like bette said in Feud….”50 years in the industry and they gave her 30 seconds…that’s all any of us will get.”
But young and remembered on film forever.
Very true
WOW! How fitting!!
@@robbhahn8897 Only as long as people care. The only people my age (20s) who've seen a Joan Crawford movie are gay guys. At least she still gets to be adored by true fans, though.
This was a truly beautiful memoriam set within a perfect song. Thanks to TMC they will live on in our hearts and minds and these wonderful friends will be remembered through their works and talents for all, and for generations to come.
I wish you would do this song every year. So beautiful. Thanks for remembering Robert Walker Jr.
2:53 Rip Valerie Harper, Rip Luke Perry..John Witherspoon 1:34 Diahann Carroll 3:57 💐💐💐💐😥😢🌠🌠🌠🌠 rip #kristoffstjohn 🙏
I am glad Fay McKenzie was part of this tribute - her performance as the inebriated party guest in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" was a laugh-out-loud experience for me.
This my absolute favorite channel, it educates through enjoyment. Besides all the fantastic movies and great hosts, there aren't any commercials; that's a home run in my book. 🌻
TCM always does a gr8 job remembering our beloved actors & actress, screen writers etc. 💜my they all rest in peace 😢
Beautifully done. Rest in peace and thanks for the memories to those we lost in 2019.
I watch these over and over and think How privildged we where here to see these actors but always seem to catch a few I missed..TCM..Thank You!
This makes me miss TCM itself, which my cable provider (Comcast) moved to a sports package.
This song 😭
TCM Remembers...wonderful works of art in their right. They have a knack for choosing the best tunes for these shorts as in this one, "Waiting" by Alice Boman. These are times of reflection to look back and be thankful for what we had and the memories of them.
Thank you TCM for being the Gold standard! Waves of memories wash over my mind...good memories.
Julie Gibson, who died October 2, was 106 years old.
Thank you TCM! I miss not having you on the cable anymore..
R.I.P. Rip, he was one of the best comedic actors around. Playing opposite the late great John Candy in Summer Rental. "Scully's Catches of the Day", and playing in "Men In Black" the guy was a genius...So again R.I.P. for Rip Torn, "AAIRGHHH, The sea is like a woman you have to be patient with her, JIBE HO!!
He was also an excellent dramatic actor. He was in many of the best Playhouse 90 performances during the Golden Age of Television. This one is my favorite. If you can get past the cheap production values the acting is all first rate:
ruclips.net/video/vgf51zOLZG4/видео.html
Yes he was great in Summer Rental, I was just watching him in an Alfred Hitchcock episode the other night!
@@edbrown8254 Thank you Ed, watched about half, will finish it over the holidays.
Mike Weir. I just watched it again. Robert Cummings and Rip Torn were spellbinding together. You just don’t see such compelling performances any more. And Rod Serling was a first rate writer.
God bless you TCM you are truly respectful to those we have lost in entertainment, you never forget anyone. So much better than the oscars.
So by chance I just discovered this yearly memorial for 2020 on a website about old LA restaurants. I watched it and noted it was youtube so came here and glanced at 2019. More I will not do now as I am utterly devastated and have paused crying.
Not because life ends I know that. But since the death of David Bowie who was about 2 months younger than me I have been conscious that actually time is UP. It crept up so silently I hadn't noticed.
This video and 2020 are show a large number of people I knew or was very conscious of during my childhood and youth. Many around my age and people who were clients of my mother when she was an Agent before she became a Personal Manager.
But also a number of people much younger and when that happens I ask the universe, "why am I still here"?? There is no answer to that but people with success, a certain amount of wealth or financial security, family and friends and love in their lives seems such a waste because I have none of these and am barely hanging on. My death would be no loss to the world. But alone the 2019 and 2020 were extraordinary people of tremendous talent and spirit.
I write this from my isolation in Europe during a totally ghastly year for this planet. If you are young or mid life ...... PLEASE know that the years fly faster than you can imagine. Focus on each day, each event and try to no always be looking toward tomorrow or the next material item that you think you cannot live without. Be in the present moment, Be Here NOW. It takes great effort but otherwise life will be over, you will wonder where it went. Stop rushing and slow it down. In the end the only thing important are people, especially loving, kind, honest, faithful and loyal people.
I am a subscriber to TCM, and have seen this tribute a couple of times. I always stop what I am doing to watch it again.
Truly an incredible remembrance.
Well done TCM!!👌👌 always classy💝💝💝
A lot legendary souls.🕊️💗
I've had a crush on Julie Adams ever since the first time I saw her which was on the Andy Griffith show. What a beautiful lady!!!
As a classic movie buff, there are always a few that I never knew had passed away when I watch the annual TCM Remembers. This year it was Michael J. Pollard and Rutger Hauer.
Danny Aiello sings!
(So does Bruce Willis)
In "Hudson Hawk".
Damn, we lost a lot of great character actors in 2019...Not to mention beautiful ladies from 60’s cinema.
The year's not over - it's a continuum - Sue Lyon.
Great rememberance to all those stars from yesteryear we lost rest
