    I have this little project going on and I needed a welder (well I thought I did) so I am bemoaning the fact that not only do I not own a welder, I have never welded. Anyhow I came across your silver soldering Videos and for my application its exactly what I need. Thank you very much, I really like your presentation style. I will stay and watch your channel grow even bigger. Look at the comments your people love you haha.:)

    • @TheCrafsMan
      @TheCrafsMan  6 лет назад +4

      Hey there! Sounds like we went through a similar process! I was looking for a way to join metal without having to buy an expensive welding machine. Since my projects are usually of a smaller nature (jewelry, sculptures, etc.) I was delighted to learn about silver soldering, and that it was a STRONG method. Happy to have shared it, and delighted that people like you have found it useful! :)

  • @Ensoniqdude

    Crafsman,
    I have a suggestion instead of using steel wool. I dip my silver or silver plated spoons/forks in Tarn-X. It only takes about 5-10 seconds. That will take off the heavy tarnish.....BUT...sometimes it gets a white/hazy color after the Tarn-X. SO....the magic happens when get a box of baking soda (maybe from Fred’s Dollar Store) and then wet your spoon/fork with a bit of water and take a pinch of baking soda and rub it on the spoon. The baking soda is a very mild abrasive and will strip off the white/hazy finish in two shakes of a dog’s tail, leaving the spoon brilliantly shiny! It is awesome because you can mash a damp amount of baking soda in tiny crevices and just the pressure will go deep and polish the metal. I also dip an old toothbrush in water then dip it into some dry baking soda and rub the item to get into tiny spaces. When you think it’s polished, just rinse it off and dry it. You can even use a jewelry polishing cloth for more shine.
    Try it!! You will be amazed! It’s better than steel wool and more delicate on the spoons design.
    I know....coupons belong to Dark Vader, but if you have a coupon buy 2 boxes of baking soda a Fred’s because you will be using this tech on more than spoons! I promise.

    Dear crafsman,
    I would like to let you know im inspired once again from this video! Since you took the time to make it I thought id take the time to let you know that it was enjoyed many times. I am a long time fan of your videos though besides legos I have never attempted many craft hobbies, but I plan to get the pepe ring bender as soon as I'm financially able and start a journey creating rings. It looks like a good starting point for working with metal as there is no soldering. I was also struck by the fact that it is art that you design and put your love into that can then be worn by people as jewelry. This has me very excited to make them for my loved ones as something that will last their lifetimes.
    Thanks again Crafsman for the inspiration and encouragement!

I need to have the CrafsMan record a message I can play in my office that says "Jeff ain't available right now. You're quite impressive, TheCrafsman SteadyCraftin! Your writing skills exceed those of many of my doctoral students, and your voice is mesmerizing and calming. I'm guessing you're extremely well educated, which could mean self taught; I'd guess, however, the crafting of metal and other materials is a hobby that keeps your mind engaged. It's extremely ironic that you removed the t and g from your username, yet you never miss a comma or apostrophe! I'm guessing you're an English professor. How far off am I???
    My husband almost jumped for joy when he heard your voice coming from my iPad tonight. I'm not sure if you realize how much joy you bring to thousands of people with each and every video you publish. Thank you, sir! Really!! 😁

      You're right! (And are actually a little easier to bend, because the diameter is larger.) :)

    Great video! Being a fabricator myself, I know it's not rocket science but it's really nice to see you share your craft with everyone and allow them to see how it's done. You've inspired me and also did Pepe a solid by demonstrating their product. I was on the fence after reading the reviews on Amazon but realize most people don't know what they are doing and probably the poor ratings were based on bending stainless or something not applicable...lol Thanks again and keep the vids coming!

      Thanks for checking it out, Amy! Hope you give the ring bender a try. It would be hard for me to go back to torch-and-pliers method after using this. :)

      You showed me in 12:53 everything I need to know! I have some books from the 70’s that I got at a church sale that involve a torch and I was a bit apprehensive to try that technique. I have my mom’s spoon ring from when she was young and it is amazing. I also bought a jewelers saw but I realized from your video that I could use a bolt cutter! Keep doing what you’re doing because you do it well!!!

    I enjoyed watching your video. Super calming relaxing voice and you get to the point. The problem solving to shape it was also useful. I’m really considering buying a spoon bender. Living in New Zealand has it challenges with buying supplies at an affordable price but will check out your link below because why not help someone while making a purchase. All the best your crafting.
