  • Since Saader came back, I decided to make this video. Mostly goals here, but a couple of apples too.

I really hated to see Panarin go. Great player and I wish nothing but the best for. But I love all of Saad's game. Panarin had some flaws and played pretty awful in his short playoff career. I am sure he can turn it around but he was not the player the Hawks needed to get past the 1st round. We need players who create opportunities, can battle and win pucks down low, drive the net when neccesary and overall are better players. It is not to take anything away from Panarin, he is an excellent player with probably more technical skill than Saad, but I felt a lot of time we never won because of Panarin, a lot of his goals seemed to come when it did not matter much. There was no memorable goal for me. Panarin had a wicked 1 timer, is an amazing passer. Had excellent chemistry with Kane in particular. But still Kane does not need much help to be a great player. Toews and that first line who skunked it up for parts of the season, needed the help.
This move was made to make the overall team more competitive. To me it feels equal to the Hall/Severson trade or even the Weaber/Subban trade from last seasons. I hope it comes with the same success story for both the teams involved. You cannot say those trades were unequal both teams got what they were aiming to get. Nashville in particular. I think both teams are slightly better from this move. I am biased as a Hawks fan but I feel it slightly favors them only because the xfactor is Saad already played in the system. Panarin will be fine, he proved that when he went and had success for team russia over the summer once the season had ended. I just give a slightly biased edge to the Blackhawks for getting the same calibar player as they were giving up, but they also get a guy who is experienced and has had success in this system already. No reason to believe he should not see similar success to come.

It feels to me kind of like the Severson/Hall trade. Many felt Devils won that trade but as we saw, Hall no longer fit the Oilers system, they wanted to go in a different direction and find players that fit that system better. While Hall is a great player, the Oilers already had enough scoring with McDavid/Draisaitl and he would have been exciting to see with either of them two, I feel the Oilers slightly edge out in the trade because they got a player who fit the system they were trying to build and it filled a major hole in the lineup. The Devils were going to be meh. any trade they made. I am not saying they did not make out well in the trade either. As I state with the Panarin/Saad trade both equally great players. But you have to give a slight edge to the team who gets the guy that fits their system and who is coming in that directly impacts that system the most. I feel Saad/Severson both fulfill those roles admirably for their new (old) teams.
