  • Helloween's eponymous album has just been released and stands as a strong contender for the title of "Album of the Year 2021." One of its standout features is the triumphant return of vocalist and guitarist Kai Hansen. Following discussions with Helloween members Sascha Gerstner, Dani Löble, and Markus Großkopf, this conversation with Kai represents a significant opportunity to delve deep into all things related to Helloween.
Please note that the audio and visual quality may not be optimal due to my remote location as the host and Kai's reliance on satellite internet in his area. However, the conversation itself offers a high-quality exchange featuring one of heavy metal's most influential figures. Enjoy!

Kai Hansen is and has always been my favorite Helloween member ever. He is one of my favorite songwriters ever. I love every band that he has been in Helloween, Gamma Ray, Iron Savior, Unisonic, and him as a solo artist big time. The new Helloween album is amazing, and I love every song on it. Especially Skyfall which Kai Hansen wrote. I am so happy that Kai Hansen and Michael Kiske are back in Helloween where they belong. I love all of Helloween's eras, but my favorite has always been the Kai Hansen/Michael Kiske era. I really hope that the current lineup is the final one because it is perfect. I do hope that Kai Hansen does continue with Gamma Ray as well. Gamma Ray in my opinion is just as amazing as Helloween. Kai Hansen is the MAN, and hopefully one day I can meet him. I have so much respect for him, and have since I was 9 years old back in 1987 when I first heard Helloween's Halloween song.

Yasou! As a whole catalog, I have to go with Gamma Ray. Helloween does have Walls Of Jericho, Keeper Of The Seven Keys Part 1, and Keeper Of The Seven Keys Part 2 which are MASTERPIECES to me. I do love the rest of Helloween's catalog, but not as much as their first three albums. I just got Gamma Ray's 30th Anniversary 2 CD/DVD live album yesterday, and it is PHENOMENAL! I love that Ralf Scheepers is on it singing the songs from his time in Gamma Ray. A perfect tour in my opinion would be Helloween, Gamma Ray, and Primal Fear.

@@johnkatsoudas3544 I'm with Gamma Ray too.I like both Deris and Kiske/Hansen periods of Helloween but after the third keepers they lost me.The anniversary live album was very enjoyable. It's a pity there was no crowd though...It would be awesome! Also I agree with you on the tour of the three bands.Full metal experience!

I never knew that I Want Out was Kai’s message of wanting to leave Helloween. It’s their most recognizable song . I heard Ingo was like “wait, we got something here !!” It’s amazing how Kai hasn’t been in Helloween since 1988.

I love Helloween but Gamma Ray is my go to band. I have followed both bands since the start. I met Kai in Melbourne a few years ago while playing with Gamma Ray. A fantastic human being who had no problems chatting to the fans.

Kai is the Adrian Smith of helloween as Adrian is to Iron Maiden.
He is the backbone that is the band, it was Kai's band that he left due to the direction and the record companys influence.
Adrian in Iron Maiden has the same influence in that he adds the missing peice that's needed.

Chameleon wasn't written as a regular Helloween album. It was inspired by the KISS 'solo' albums. The 3 main songwriters at the time (Weikath, Grapow and Kiske) each wrote 4 songs without any collaboration, then regrouped in the studio to record each other's tracks. It's a cool concept, but it baffles my mind that they didn't explain that at least in the liner notes. Better still if they had put that on a sticker for the outer wrap.

I'm kind of on the opposite side of what the host said about Maiden with Blaze, and Priest with Ripper. I'm fine with what Maiden did with Blaze, not their best, but still great to me. And I don't like the direction Priest went with Ripper.
Chameleon IS a good album, a few weaker tracks on there (Windmill for one), but a lot of it isn't that different from stuff they continued doing with Deris. Giants is one they should be paying live.

I have one request for all Helloween people. Could Miachel Kiske can do, that's he did before he rejoined Helloween again? Michael everybody know very well that you don't lov Heavy Metal! You don't like Power Metal. This music is only the money reason for you! I understand reunion several shows, but we want Helloween back on the Power Metal sound... Michael You talk about some piano stuff on one of your interview, This is not a Power Metal! This is your Kiske stuff. You try before without any success for it!!!
With all due respect to Kiske for his vocal talent. However, Michael is not a Power Metal heart person - and he will never be a musician who loves and has metal music in his heart.
The Helloween's best years were with Andy Deris.
Andy Deris is not only a singer, but he is also a great composer, which no one can not say about Kiska at all.
Please Kiske and Hansen leave!!! We want Helloween back on Metal road

On a personal note - and not about Helloween at all - I should mention that as a former music journalist I tried to contact Kai Hansen probably 5 times via management, directly, you name it. No luck whatsoever. That was probably my biggest music disappointment as this guy influenced me a lot with his meaningful lyrics and amazing songs. After all those failures I had to make a conclusion that some musicians are better be just listened to and not contacted as they don't seem to care. So for right now my support to him is quite low, I'm sorry to say.

    • @andersclausnielsen7736
      @andersclausnielsen7736 3 года назад +3

You must remember that everything goes through management..and just IMAGINE how many people that are trying to get in contact with their idols including journalists. A guy like Kai hansen has been in the business his entire life, used to the attention, being humble and a bit introvert as well. I don´t think he spend much time on reading emails, letters etc...
