@BidM142 That is irrelevant. His English is very good and he didn't mispronounced or hesitate when speaking. His decision to go round the houses and wax lyrical was entirely his decision and he took almost 4 minutes to ask, "How did you come up with the Jaws theme"? It's people like him, who hog it when they get the mic and babble rubbish for ages, that ensure less time is available for others who may have interesting questions to ask, and not those that have been answered repeatedly for decades.
Not an accident - he is now talking about Scene d’Amour from Vertigo by Bernard Herrmann. You can also see JTW conducting it on YT. A very famous and beautiful part of the Vertigo score.
I can't believe how did they let Santaollalla be right there!! A guy who is not even a composer! They should have asked a knowledgeable person or real composer like Alan Silvestri , Bill Conti, David Newman or Lalo Schifrin to ask questions to the maestro John Williams! Seeing Santaolalla there is beyond embarrassing!! The world now rewards and embraces the mediocre film music composer!!
I like the way John Williams really pays attention and listens to the questioner.
Jhon Williams and Gustavo Santaolalla, two legends.
Always thought Jaws' theme was similar to Psycho's and this discussion is most revealing.
"Thump thump thump thump": It's a signal, an impulse, more than music. Sure gets the heart racing!
I love John williams´ music!
I never thought the question would end.
Good interview.
I always thought there was a litlle of the Psycho theme in the Jaws theme. To see Maestro Williams agree makes this movie nerd very happy
Thanks for these! I wanted to go but was sold out!! :-)
After about a minute and a half I lost the thread of the 'question'.
Give Gustavo a break. English isn’t his first language

Is this supposed to be interview or monologue?
A conversation
