It is tricky to do ensemble when it's a really small cast Tgwdlm only had 8 actors And Npmd only has 12 actors (only in proshot version + not counting cameos) in non proshot its 10 actors So it's really tricky to have big ensemble numbers when the actors have to be in the very next scene
I mean, I feel like it would have added to the gut punch of richies death, cause high schoolers voice do occasionally crack especially during stressful situations.
They have dubbed over the cast album recordings a few times in the last couple shows (such as the ending of Monsters and Men in Black Friday), so we probably wouldn't hear it if it did.
My favorite part is the beginning of high school is killing me where they play a piano version of the “im not a loser” motif😭 im so sad no one’s appreciated that part yet
i noticed this too!! but instead of the “I’m not a loser” lyric, it’s actually the “I will know of my world, I’m the ruler” which is what plays in the background during Grace’s solo at the end of the musical! Just before Richie starts singing, the intro slows down into, “The darkness will spare… my…” and then Richie starts. The implications are neat :)
the amount of times i replayed that exact same part from nerdy prudes must die is unhealthy i swear but it’s just so so good and then when grace brings it back at the end ugh i love angela sm

Holy shit you're right!! And it was Lauren and Robert mainly doing that choreo too!! I guess she still liked it enough to include it in this musical too

Honestly, Starkid hasn’t done a whole lot of massive ensemble songs in their previous works, so I absolutely love how many are in this show…
Yeah! I got a lot of Firebringer vibes from how many melodies were in this one and it's fantastic.
@@Raven-yv6di Firebringer was good for that, the closest other examples I can think of are Dream A Little Harder and Feast or Famine…

I love a good ensemble song especially as someone who keeps getting ensemble
There's something especially unsettling about the most overly Christian character in the show asking "who will pray for you"
And saying "RUN YOU LITTLE BITCH"

His high c is flawless
My favorite thing about High School is Killing Me is you just KNOW Richie was waiting for any excuse to howl like a wolf 💀
I love his howl so much idk why, Jon is just putting his all into it
While we're on the subject, who's the one that we faintly hear going "Rawr!" at that part?

Ruth repeating “I used to dance…” always makes me want to cry forever
The audience absolutely SCREAMING during the lords in black intro is huge and extremely effective
Can you imagine if Jon's voice had cracked during his "I'm not a loser"? I know it doesn't happen but every time I listen I worry it will.
I mean, I feel like it would have added to the gut punch of richies death, cause high schoolers voice do occasionally crack especially during stressful situations.

my mind went to that one one scene from trail to Oregon when he says he was in west side story
I'm fully convinced Grace watches a crap ton of true crime documentaries, considering everything.
Or she’s just fully insane and might have planned it all /j
it’s so funny to me how ironic it is how SHE out of all of them was the only one to stay cool, calm, collected, and be the first to pitch ideas
Everyone's favorite part of the summoning is basically the whole thing and I can't agree more

The whiplash from Dirty Girl into Bully the Bully in a compilation like this always gets me. What a vibe change.
