Im a commercial operator. Been using these heads last 15 years. I carry a precut line rolled up and contained with a wrap of electrical tape in my pocket. I keep a bunch of precuts stored in water to keep the line from becoming brittle. .080 Oregon Commercial round line is my preferred size for daily use. Never remove the head to reload the spool. With experience these can be reloaded very quickly. Under 2 minutes to reload. I have tried other heads but found none that worked better than the 25-2
Great video. I had mine changed in real time with your video! One thing I'd add is that, while it's possible to open the case with the finger-holes, it requires a fair amount of pressure, and depending on the size and strength of your fingers, (and nails), it can be difficult, while inserting a screwdriver, coin, or anything similar into the slot pops it off quickly and easily!
Nice clear instruction, nylon in a weed wacker is an environmental microplastic disaster. I found some greenline biodegradable (not uv degradable!) line instead. Hopefully that will become the standard in the future!
Thanks, perfect video. I wondering why Stihl dont make such videos. the manuel ist too long and boring. I want only prepare my autocut for next turn. 🙈 greettings from germany
I just leave the string in one piece match the ends up you know and I take the ends and I put them in insert them in the head and then I take my thumb and split the difference and I wind both sides of the same time.... Then at the end of it I have the lines are still connected okay so then I just put the trimmer line into the eyelets and then I push the trimmer head down in there and turn it and then I cut it after I put it into the eyelets then I just cut it right in the middle and it's done put the lid on it and it's done
This isn't an "easy trick" as you state. This is exactly how you're supposed to do it according to the manual. Although it was a nice tutorial for those that do not bother with manuals. :)
My manual is nothing more than some tiny, cryptic diagrams which I found unhelpful. Now that I've done it they make more sense, but I'm pretty sure that's not how it's supposed to work....
I just bought one of these and have no idea how to get the head off or open to get new line in there. Even after watching this video When it’s attached to the unit I’m supposed to be able to push in those holes and the cap pops off the head? Mine doesn’t seem to do anything
Push the releases on each side of the unit so they move in. Then wiggle off the cap. It will slide out. To remove entire head from the trimmer, place a small screwdriver in the hole in the top of trimmer. Rotate head around until screw driver seats inside the head also. Then spin off the head CLOCKWISE as it’s reverse threaded. Hope this helps.
@@ApacheRanchthanks for the reply. I managed to get the cap off but I had to use a flat head screw driver. No way I can get it off with my fingers alone.
I have seen this before. To alleviate it, I have typically loaded a little less line into the trimmer head (15 vs. 20 feet). Not sure of another solution really. Thanks for your comment.
I saw the diagram only (no words) instructions on how to load it and was frustrated. This is perfect. Easy to follow.
@@stevehenkel354 I also found the "IKEA" diagram very unhelpful!

Good idea!
Why do you have to take the whole unit off the weedeater to do this? I leave the head in place and remove the spool and top cover. Saves one step.
Yup. You could sure do that too. Thanks for your comment.
Hi, is there a problem if i feed with stihl 2.6mm? What is the max size?
This isn't an "easy trick" as you state. This is exactly how you're supposed to do it according to the manual. Although it was a nice tutorial for those that do not bother with manuals. :)
I guess the "trick" I am speaking about is measuring the amount of string needed using your arm span. Thanks for your comment.
Maybe I skimmed through the video a bit too hasty. I stand corrected. Keep up the good work! 🤠

Have you had any problems with the line fusing/melting together inside the trimmer head?

Stihl says 33 feet for .095 trimmer line
Optimistic! It’s gonna jam!
